  3. Not Surprised on AP Suspends DoD Over Altered US Army Photo · · Score: 5, Informative

I served in the Army for 7+ years. Three years of which in a PAO (Public Affairs Office), that handles press releases, photo's, etc. Most people have this idea that there is this all encompassing control in the Army, as well as a focused strategy of deception. Believe me.. there isn't, they aren't that smart (like most companies we all work for).

This picture is photoshopped badly because just like any small shop in the civilian world, some SPC or PFC got a request for a photo of Gen Whats Herface, thought it would be "cool" to use this new app on my computer. He then shows the photo to the Captain(or Major) who is the "Manager" of the office... He's technically a dud (like most Managers) and thinks it's awesome. So they hand it over.

Point is, don't forgot the U.S. Army isn't unlike most Corporations when it comes to things other than "War (Training, etc."), they have bad manager's, are poorly run, make mistakes... I've personally NEVER seen a case where they were trying to cover something up, or lie, and I was working during the Cuban Camp setups in Central America (sh!t hit the fan with that one). Nobody even thought about lying or being deceptive, there was just this idea that you just don't do it, because we're soldiers, it's a black eye when the truth does come out, and it always does. (Now, when it comes to Operational Information, ie War. that is different. You don't have press releases that will tell the enemy 'Hey we'll be there next Friday, act surprised')

On the flipside, when deceptive things happen or poor photoshop jobs are released, it's usually poor decisions by LOCAL offices or commands. It's not an all encompassing strategy.

    Just my personal experience :-)

  10. Not WoW on Mythic Launches Warhammer Online · · Score: 2, Interesting

Comparing WoW to WAR is difficult to say the least. Fundamentally at their core, they are completely different games. WoW is a PVE game, endgame content is focused on PVE Raids. WAR is a PVP/RVR game, focus is on Realm vs. Realm combat.

If you are a PVE endgame raiding junky, and NEVER PVP, then WAR isn't the game for you. Questing in WAR is no different than any other MMO.

If you like PVP, whereas you grind out Uber Gear to give yourself a distinct advantage over opponents, and you want to be a solo superstar ganking machine.. WAR is NOT FOR YOU!

If you like GROUP BASED PVP, PVP That matters to the overall goal, and battles won/lost effect the world, where you have to rely on the group and group tactics (forming lines, choke points, for one because this game contains collision dectection), WAR will be for you.

More often than not Non-technical managers/directors will be making technical decisions, that you will have to implement no matter how ridiculous. Wow is no longer any more casual than any other MMO. Sure you can "casually" just quest around and reach level 20 in three weeks, and chat with your friends in /g, but you can do that on any other MMO.

You can casually get to 70 and try to PVP in Greens and Blues, and every other player with casually hand your ass to you.

Spending weeks in BGs to get Tokens+Honor PVP gear != Casual
Raiding nonstop for months to get PVE gear != Casual
Running Heroics for a sh!tton of Badges for Badge Gear != Casual

I'm sure ppl will tell me how it takes so much longer in MMO X to get this or that, but that doesn't make Wow casual.

He comes to me the next day disappointed. He continues to explain, "This sucks... I installed on my laptop with zero problems. First thing to tackle was an AIM client.. but it was already installed. So then I decided I need VNC for work, but it was already installed to, along with a terminal services client. Finally, I realized I needed a VPN client.. DAMMIT! It was there too! I heard all these stories about tinkering around and getting stuff to work.. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT! "
