Think oil.. there is only a finite amount. It costs $143 a barrel. It's used in everything from gas, to plastic (petroleum products). Elements, gone... you name it. Copper has gotten so expensive, that thieves are stealing the wiring from churches to sell to recyclers http://www.topix.com/forum/city/sanderson-fl/T55O1AF1U1DOLSDGK.. so when copper is gone, do we have a ready replacement to wire homes, cars, tvs, stereo's... And we throw it all away.
Give it another 20-40 years, and today's Landfills, will be Mining Operations in the future.
See opinion, you can argue the merits of this language or that language, but it still comes down to personal preference, opinion, or what your employer requires.
"would have us believe that over 200 years ago, the Framers made a choice to limit the tools available to elected officials wishing to regulate civilian uses of.. " freedom of speech.
Boring means it is running, it means everything is in place the correct way. Monitoring is working, everything is running smoothly and you just wait for the sms or green light to turn red. Gives you free time to work on interesting/fun things:-)
Exciting IT is supporting an environment that is an absolute mess! It's rebuilding zones in production, because someone didn't create the zfs mounts/quotas, it's creating a server list because your department doesn't have one and no clue on how many or what it supports, it's installing sudo on 156 servers, building ldap, it's going crazy over the RH7.2 box that has open public key access to over 40 production servers... AHHHH!... boring is good in IT.
I worked for a few dotbombs in the 90's in New York City. I know from personal experience, the companies blew thru the money because one of two reasons..
1. They were under pressure from the investors to spend it. Investors wanted us to go public ASAP and cash out. They wanted us to spend whatever it took to get from point A to point IPO. And that is where the long hours and stress comes in. As we all know, money doesn't translate to faster. So Cxx's are pressuring you to:
a. Hurry the "f**k" up! b. Spend, Spend, Spend, whatever it takes.. I don't care buy more servers.. etc.
2. They were absolutely inexperienced and living in fantasy land! They would mistake $120 mil in VC as "We MADE IT!", and spent the money like they were already a long established successful company. Two monitors for everyone, plush chairs, pool tables, free meals everyday, lavish company parties for IT. (hehe that was fun why it lasted).
They've sued other guitar companies as well. I believe ESP over their popular Explorer Body Style (i.e. The one Hetfield used in the mid to late 80's).
Funny thing about the PRS suit, was their singlecut didn't even come close to fitting in a Les Paul case, despite Gibson's claim that it was a practical duplicate knockoff.
Whatever, I stopped looking at Gibson Guitars when the price when from "an arm and a leg".. to kidney's and sexual organs.
I think it's long overdue that any judge that is called to preside over a case involving computer technology, should be required to show that they can first turn on a computer first.
It's just so damn embarassing seeing case after case where judges are so out of touch with their collective 1950's Beaver Cleaver mindset.
If a judge cannot turn on a computer, or the last new car they purchased was a Studebaker, then they need to resign. I think we should have a questionairre given to judges... Ask questions such as, "What is the cost of a Gallon of Gas?", if they should respond with "$0.75".. resign.
I agree.. you grant children a little more privacy as they get older. For example my 10 year old son has little privacy, when he's 13-15 and taking those "20 minute" showers, he'll be granted ALOT of privacy.
I may sound crazy, and I maybe a bit overboard on suggesting this... but.. how about, you don't let your kids have a myspace profile. I know, I know, it takes effort to monitor.. and you may actually have to "punish" them if they disobey and create one, and I know it might harm their fragile little inner self that they can't have everything their way...
You know what, forget I mentioned it. I apologize for being so callous for recommending such harsh treatment of a child. It is the Government and Myspace responsibility.
Yes, I am a vet! Yes, I could give a ratsass whether or not Google created some logo for Veteran's Day. The Average American could care less about Veteran's or Veteran's Day, so Google is just representative of the average american mindset. Why flame them for it?
Wow, makes me wish I didn't loose my first account! Forgot my pass, and just created a second. This UID is a 4 Digit, maybe I should ebay it LOL! My first one was like 400 something.
As a Christian, it really bothers me when I see groups with "Christian" in their title go on some "__________" crusade. Biblically, I see many cases where Jesus tells Christian's to spread the word, meaning spread the word of Salvation. I don't find any instances where Jesus lobbied Rome to change any laws, or did sit in's, or called people Baby Killers.
Key to Weedlekin's post is "religious nuts", Religion is man's way of getting closer to God. It's man's way of coming up with do's and don'ts and various crusades to be closer to God... It's not God's way. Going to Church, trying to ban violent video games, abortion, etc. doesn't make you a Christian, any more than going to McDonald's makes you a hamburger.
This isn't to start some biblical debate, but just to point out that just because some individual or group claims to be Christian, doesn't actually mean they are Christian.
I've been in IT for some years now. I went through a divorce. Was my profession responsible, no. I have a wonderful son and share custody 50/50.
I worked at a startup for 1 year, during that year I rarely if ever saw my family. Did that job contribute to my divorce? No, because I decided to quit that job, and find another (That year surely didn't help my relationship, however it wasn't the catalyst to the failure of the marriage).
Divorce can be a horribly emotional experience, we often soul search to find out "what went wrong, what could've I done differently". Sometimes, you just got to sit back.. take a deep breath, and just realize it didn't work out. Regardless of whether she cheated, you cheated, you were away working all the time, she wasn't a good wife, and the myriad of other reasons, nothing can change the present situation... so...
Best advice, Keep your cool and move forward. If you feel the job's a problem start looking for a new one.
No, I don't see a connection. Just like I don't see a connection between Clinton getting BJ and Teens saying oralsex is not sex. Instead on focusing on people, we should focus on issues and policies. People regardless of party will fail, as they are typically selfcentered, selfinterested, self*.
If you tell someone, "I think this policy is bad because...". They will listen. Tell someone, "I think this policy is bad bacause is an idiot".. and they will shut you out.
Regardless of party discuss issues, discuss problems, do something... Standing from the rooftops screaming that such n' such is an "asshole" may get you short term attention, or even elected. But it's not solving the issues.
As someone who has worked in both the public and private sector, I support this decision. You sir have seen thru the political BS to see this for what it is.
You can report wrongdoing, you can report it outside the normal channels in a professional manner.
You can't, send an office wide email that the manager of the USDA office in your district does cocaine... it maybe true, but not the best way to handle it.:-)
I'm a casual mmo gamer(>10 Hours a week). I couldn't imagine spending 40 mins at a time just waiting to login. While I can put up with occasional bugs and whatnot, being able to login (outside of maint. windows) is a must! I pay a monthly subscription to play, I expect more.
currently playing MxO, so some may argue my "I expect more." comment;-)
"killing doctors and burning clinics" yea your right, I see this on the news ALL THE TIME, ranks right there with car bombs, suicide bombers etc.
Wasting time on Spanish Inquistion, circa late 1400's!? Crusades, last one the 9th was like 1270 something!? That's ok, you just keep your eyes peeled for those Christian suicide bombers boarding your childrens school bus, or detonating that Car Bomb outside your favorite grocery store.
I was totally turned off by the no PvP announcement. The same company is also developing the LOTR MMO, which by the way has no PvP either. PvP for me is a requirement, teaming with buddies to fight NPCs just seems... pointless. I can do that with NWN. I'm not one to go on a gankfest, but PvP just provides more "realism" and opportunities in between mission/quest grinds.
I was even more disappointed with the No PvP annoucement with the LOTR MMO. When LOTR was first announced, I imagined the possibilities of joining an Orc Band, raiding, and pillaging.
It makes me wonder if they even have the necessary experience to develop a good PvP system within an MMO.
While this is a little cutesy for me, it's at least a move toward the SnowCrash direction :-D
I never thought of Diablo as a CRPG, button mashing, face smashing, wtfpwning FFA, yes.. but RPG? nah.
