  2. So... on Bush Supreme Court Nominee Former Microsoft Lawyer · · Score: 2, Interesting

The most troubling thing about this is that she once represented Microsoft when she worked at a law firm? She represented Disney and a few other large corporations too, it's what lawyers are paid to do.

Have we perhaps overlooked the fact that she was appointed by then Texas Governor Bush to head up the oft-maligned Texas Lottery Commission and dispatched two commissioners who happned to be democrats, one of whom claimed to be instrumental in getting Bush discharged from the Air National Guard? How about the fact that when running for Dallas City Council, she considered herself to be a reformed pro-choicer (aka: anti-choice) due to a born again situation? Or the fact that she lobbied the ABA to change its stance from pro-choice to nuetral or pro-life, only to rebuffed? Then she was the one who claimed that the ABA rankings weren't valid measures of performance and standing when trying to identify nominees for the appelate court?

Don't be fooled here, she's a wolf in sheeps clothing...Dubbya's sleeping giant. He's trying to put through someone with no real paper trail so that he can establish his real legacy, shifting the opinion of the court to 'repair' the moral fiber of America. Being from Dallas, a city that she called home for a good long while, I've already heard a good deal from Texas republicans (which I, myself, used to be) about how she is more like Sandra Day O'Connor than people realize, and she'll fit that mold well, but I don't buy it. She won't play 'swing vote' in any form or fashion. I hope she gots blocked, and hard.

Actually, I love my Shuffle...it was as good a self-birthday present as I've ever purchased. It's great for when I'm out tooling around on my skateboard or at the gym or outside smoking a cigarette at work (far, far away from the building...so the shuffle keeps me company on the long walks to and fro).

The problem is, I get through the songs too quickly, and it's no good for when I'm writing or doing research, because invariably, the music that gets me going while lifting weights or doing a backside on a curb isn't the same that helps me to focus when I'm performing more thought intensive activities...that wouldn't be a problem if these weren't all daily activities, but they are...so if I want to change music, I've got to boot up my laptop, change out the playlists, wait for it load and then go. I could own two, I suppose, one for each set of tasks, but for that price, I could have a Nano...which would facilitate all of this (except the skateboarding, of course). *shrug*

See, it's like dealing with crying baby...if you *always* respond to them, they learn that they can get whatever they want by crying. However, if you ignore them, there is a good chance that they'll either stop or find another way to entertain themselves.

  13. Re:Good Investment on Marvel Gets Cash to do 10 Films · · Score: 1

I enjoyed both movies, personally...of course, I also liked Joe Versus the Volcano (there's just something about Tom & Meg that I'm addicted to). My one real problem with those flicks is this: while they were clearly intended to come off as modern day fairy tales - which they succeed at - Nora Ephron was entirely too heavy handed with the rose colored lens treatment on breakups.

In Sleepless, when Meg and Bill hit the splits, it's all very chummy and kind of "Oh hahaha, you're right, I do deserve better"...in Mail, the breakups are even more unrealistic, "Oh, I don't love you anymore, haha!" "Hey, I don't love you either, and there's someone else!" "Hey, me too!" "hahahahaha"...what the fuck is this shit? Where do these kinds of people live, and why haven't *I* ever experienced a breakup that went so well?

I suppose this is meant to further the notion that none of what you see is real, and it is intended to be lighthearted to the point of ridiculousness, but come on...at least have one person be INDIGNANT...

What are you looking for here in terms of a reason? I'm leaning towards most Americans being blind followers of consumerism...video games are just an extension of the 'keeping up with the joneses' mentality that has plagued us for far too long.

Personally, I'd rather keep up with my bills and setting aside money for my retirement than worry about having the latest and greatest...recently, I passed over getting a 15" PowerBook to buy a barely used, second-hand HP notebook from a friend for $550. That total included the bag, all of their software, and some accessories...all because *they* bought a PowerBook, or wanted to, at least. I don't have an iPod, I have a Shuffle. I don't have a fancy car, I have an economical one. My PS2 was bought two years into the product cycle, and used.

It makes me a little sad to know that we're going to hell on a road paved with debt, but at least I get to play the part of a psuedo-carrion fowl to the money-ignorant masses.
