"It's English...for better or worse international business.."
As long as English speakers are the CUSTOMERS. The underlying assumption is that the Chinese will always be the sellers and some English speaker the buyer.
this has been covered before.
iphone's not popular in japan for three reasons:
1. no video phone
2. can't pay for stuff with it. (critically important. credit cards are sooo yesterday.)
3. no TV tuner (it's not a bad feature to have)
also, it doesn't help that iphone cost as much as other phones that better cater to the japanese lifestyle.
who's even using Windows on slashdot?
only people that are affected by this are pc techs who need to "upgrade" user machines. when i was in user support, i don't remember ever upgrading an OS on them unless we were completely reimaging them. so this shouldn't matter to anyone.
also people hold Windows to the highest of the standards on the slightest user interface issues even if it's in beta whereas Linux gets judged on technical aspects of the kernel only.
because he's a nerd recognized by jocks. instead of getting wedges, he got money and fame and now the wannabes feel like he's whored and betrayed the other nerds.
the nerd wannabes mistakenly believe it's the nerdiness of bill gates the world embraces. so they constantly groan and moan how they are nerdier than gates but can't get a date or get out of their parents' basements.
true nerds otoh are happy just to know they've created something better than other nerds. it's not the money or recognition from the quarterbacks and cheerleaders that they crave. they're happy to be recognized by other nerds as true nerds.
that makes me wonder how come the LS-120 drives never took off? They were compatible with the old floppies, could hold 120MB, and could relatively easily make it DOS bootable.
True, they've alienated a lot of their potential customers, but have they really lost that much? I don't think they're gonna stop any time soon; it might even become their perennial task.
The parent stated the reality correctly. Even though I do agree that OpenOffice is good enough, "MS Office" is like the password in computer requirements for all non-IT jobs. The interviewers don't really understand that OpenOffice users are bit more advanced computer users in general. They'll just move onto 150 other resumes that lists MS Office in the computer skills section. Much like Linux, it's going to take some time for businesses to start adopting the alternatives.
How can Google be ahead in service that they haven't even launched yet? I'm frankly getting a little weary of waiting for their e-mail service. Now that Yahoo's increased their storage to 100MB and other major players poised to upgrade their quotas as well, Google's storage space doesn't look all that attractive anymore.
If you were to READ the article, you'd know that they were specifically referring to fictions, poetry, and short stories. They didn't say people weren't reading newspapers.
better and cheaper solution: get a usb fan and blow it into the ventilation hole next to the headphone jack. your ibook will never feel hot and it's quieter than the internal fan that only starts when your palm and lap are already uncomfortably hot.
yeah, i was thinking the same thing. other than the fact that he was using e-mails for his pleas, there were no conclusive evidences to suggest that he was trying to scam large sums of money. it looks as if he was looking for donations of any amount. the large sum wasn't really set by him. at worst, he wasn't much different than the homeless people asking for money in subways in new york city.
you can still date.
it's more like, you have a great break-up line, should you need to use it.
"you see, i still love you, but my parents want me to marry this another girl..."
I've been telling my wife how I'm being powered by wine and its cousins. Now I have a concrete example.

Alcohol, Facebook's official drink!
I'm genuinely curious. What would happen in the US if I tweet messages praising Al-Qaeda and retweeted their propaganda and warnings about terrorism?

we got to see a glimpse of indian tech support call center in that movie. next time they put you on hold for 30 minutes, you know what they're doing.
slashdot headlines... informative and interesting ones stimulate my brain far more than non-news events that just clutter the main page.

After joining/initiating price fixing with its competitors and making good profits, you rat out on your competitors without paying the fines.
You're not blocking ads from slashdot are you???

Someone please donate PCs for free to the third-world countries so we can slap $100 tax per PC for copy of Windows.
