Would that be an unspeakable abomination or a means of preserving real 10-year-olds from predators?
Be careful - In many jurisdictions, you could probably get life imprisonment just for asking this question! (Asking questions is definitely considered an unspeakable abomination in many countries).
You can't, and I can't, but you bet the UK and US governments will compromise OUR freedoms the moment they have an opportunity - like old fashioned Stalinists and Maoists, but more effectively. (Democracy is often called "dictatorship of the proletariat", except in Nigieria where it is assumed to be broken Engish for "Dem all Crazy").
If people can't hear it, they can't hear whether it is modulated or not. FFSK on a 22.5kHz carrier? I bet the local bats hate it, and maybe it will annoy your dog too, but I doubt you could hear it yourself, unless at 115dB. Your PC speaker probably cant put out even 60dB at this frequency. Anyway, if you have a SMPS in the room, the noise will be drowned out. (Ultrasonic means what the sales guy at PC world says it means) A lot of us remember 110 baud.
The mics in most Android phones will piss on those in a PC. Load an Android scope app and job done.
I call bullshit: if a machine running OpenBSD is claimed to be compromised, the claim is probably suspect. OpenBSD machines are normally servers, and don't have microphones (and any on-board speakers would have trouble at 300 baud over the noise in a server closet).
As for the story that "its the BIOS wot done it": how is the bios supposed to interact with the OS in the manner described in an OS independent way? And who the hell has a TCP/IP stack that takes its input from a sound card? Its hard enough get one that works on Ubuntu with a Ralink wifi card!
Only because dickheads like HTC keep making phones which dont have removable SD cards and batteries because they believe the moron that told them that is why iPhones sell.
Hell, as a real world user, and not a paid reviewer, I prefer Samsung's plastic case, because it is harder to damage, and my phone rarely leaves its leather case anyway.
All my family has Samsung phones, and every single one will change brand next contract if another brand has a better offering.
Some had iPhones b4, but poor reception and broken screens led to a change of heart.
Well, mostly they dont. This is a good thing, given that they shot some guy for carrying a table-leg (thought it was a gun), and another for being on the underground (obviously an act of terrorism - only terrorists would go underground).
It costs a fortune in toner. It works with Linux and Windows, but the drivers are useless - Linux: Dialogue boxes come up tiny, and "remember this setting" fails to remember, but, mysteriously, other settings won't change. Windows: fills desktop with indeciferable icons and general bloat, and wants to phone home/be registered, etc.
But... It prints wirelessly from Ipad and Macbook pro, and scans wirelessly from Android and Windows (not effortlessly, though).
Oki LED printers are cheap to run, and don't go wrong.
If it supports Gnome 2, (or even LXDE). I will install it immediately. I have too many apps for the stupid icon based interfaces - I want drop-down hierarchical text menus on my N7. Otherwise, its Cyanogenmod for me.
Lots of people use other people's NINOs - mostly for criminal purposes. When dealing with tax or benefits, it is the equivalent of the long credit card number.
Why would you want to run Linux on an ICL mainframe. The real question is "Will it run George 2?" (or, for those who like GUIs, Maximop? (Minimop if you live in East London).
The Quality of Oracle's documentation certainly beats the quality of their code by a country mile. Oracle itself is a bug-infested pile of crap. But it is still way better at the code level than it is at the overall concept level. and not a patch on PostgreSQL in terms of deployment or maintenance.
This si a case of Oracle sqealing like a stuck pig.
Since the TV subtitles have so many errors that they are impossible for humans to understand, I cant see this working in my lifetime. I suspect the cat is a weasel, rather than wise.
To some extent, yes. If you have maintained the same machine for years with all your environment highly optimised, you vaguely imagine migrating to an altogether different DE is going to be more painful that trying to re-jig the latest POS into simething manageable. However, this time the Gnome team have gone too far. After using gnome-fallback-shell for a bit, and now evaluating several alternatives, it is LXDE for us.
POS is probably nearer the mark. I am busy migrating our machines to LXDE.
If you use text menus, only literate people can use the computer. If you use Icons, only illiterates can use it.
(IME people who use an app less than once in a couple month are unlikely to recognise most icons. Some people use an app only once a year, but have done for 20 years*. Changing the icon annually is a disaster for the support team. Also note than when you mobile had piss-poor resolution and only had a few apps, a screen full of icons worked well. Now you might have 1920x1280 resolution and over 100 apps, hierarchical text menus are a far better solution. (Read: Unity is a leap backwards into the dark)
*Computers are not new technology - I have been using Unix since 1978! (you know about lawns)
Or chjarge "stam duty" on the trades to make high frequency trading unprofitable, and feed a trivially small part of the "commissions" on normal trades to Joe Public. (As proposed in Europe)

I dont think you can consider people who see buses go past them in the street as passengers!
What are they charged with? "Molesting under age pixels"?

Obviously you do not have an MBA. Perhaps you even think common sense is a better guide to life?

Most people knew that a long time ago. However, bringing the scum to court is very difficult.
Has the time come to replace the present US governmental system with a swarm of bees? The present system is clearly grade C!

Try installing xSensors in Lubuntu for a truely wierd experience!

But think of the porn!

Indeed - lack of respect for the user is a sure sign of product maturity!

What is wrong with FVWM95?

In America, money travels faster than light, and has done for years. Nothing to see here. Move along please.
