    I installed the game using the switch mentioned in the FAQ, and then patched the game. Then it kinda worked, crashed every 5 minutes or so, but that was a problem with my current motherboard, was running something with the VIA133 chipset, but after upgrading to a nForce I had no problems whatsoever with SS2.

    Sorry I can't help you anymore with this... SS2 is a game that deserves to be played :)

    Bittorrent, started out at 10kB/s and did rise steadily to 600kB/s. 10 Mbit/s connection, but I rarely get to that speed, usually 6-8 Mbit/s.

    I use huffyuv to archive my videos, it's a quite simple lossless codec with the source code available. If it dies it shouldn't be too hard to write a own decoder to it after 10 years...

    Only disadvantage is the size of the videos, it only compresses to about 40% of the uncompressed original.

    Bink is a old codec, doesn't really stand up in quality to mpeg-4 codecs. It has some advantages to like requring minimal cpu-power to decode. It runs fine on a old pentium 90, try to watch a mpeg-4 on that...

    And it's used a lot in games, because it was designed for games.

    Bink and Smacker (a older codec from the same company) are used in a lot of Blizzard games, like Warcraft I&II, Starcraft, Diablo I&II

    Disconnect the power from they keyboard before you wash it, and afterwards let it dry properly for a day or two. I have washed my keyboards several times without any kind of problems.

    Not really... I saw once a interview with the creator Nick Park talking about "the wrong trousers" where the evil penguin first appears. He said that a penguin was easy to make look mysterious and evil because it's so expressionless. Only glary, black, small eyes.

    nForce 2 has a 333 MHz bus (166 MHz DDR)... But it can use up to 400 MHz memory (200 MHz DDR).
    Memory speed != FSB speed. I'm running a old Athlon with a 266 FSB and using 333 MHz memory.

    Change that to: cache > memory > network > disk

    Show me a disk that is faster than a gigabit ethernet. And if you tell me disks in a RAID are faster, I'll tell you it's possible to use several network connections in parallell.

    The networked ramdisks could be faster, but it doesn't fit the limited budget he wanted.

    But why must this be done on the server, and collected at Microsoft? Can't the client download a list of what MS has for updates, and decide what the local system has?

    ...and then the server logs what the client have requested. What's the difference?

    And read again... 512 GB like in gigabytes.
    32-bit adressing can support 2^32 bits = 4GB. Which is a lot more than your 768 megabytes.

    When Windows 2000 came out I installed it on my K6-III 450 and it was slow. Very slow. XP on a P100 is probably unuseable.

    Why would they need to break up the frames? Isn't this cluster used for the final rendering? I believe the artists have fast enough workstations to make preview renders. They don't need to render in the final resolution to spot any problems... And usually they are only working at one part of scene at a time, so a partial rendering of the scene would be enough.

    I would say a bit of both. If guns wouldn't exist, people would kill people with other means. But guns make it easier to kill people, what's easier, shoot a guy or chop him with a axe or something...
    And how about accidents? Every now and then we hear about hunters that shoot eachother, children playing with guns, etc...

    And in this sniper case, he fragged a lot of people with his fancy weapon, how many could he have killed WITHOUT any firearm?

    I use sjcdapi.sys (google if you need it). Originally it came with a 4x cd-rom, but I've had no problems using it a hp cd-burner, a toshiba dvd-reader and a philips dvd-writer... Of cource only reading cd-roms :)
