Actually the article is written by a former developer of IE, not a current developer. I also seriously doubt MS had anything to do with this article as he points out some of the good points of Opera and Firefox while recomending that if you haven't tried them out it may be a good idea to.
The article was on EUROPE not AMERICA, so unless you plan on blamming America for warming up all of Europe. The article lacks anything close to an actual scientific study with DATA and other such meaningful tidbits. Considering the fact that human CO2 emmissions worldwide are at worst 50% of the total CO2 emmitted and that America is at worst 25% of that number followed buy SUV owners being responsible for at worst 5% of that even smaller number you really need stop with the hate.
I mean after AMD uses this "new" uber tech from ATI to over throw Intel's corporate dominance and becomes the worlds largest producer of CPU's do we start rooting for Intel to break the strangle hold AMD has on the corporate market? Or do we continue to cheer AMD?
I question your religious background since you failed to capitalize Jesus. I make alot of typos but if I ever fail to capitalize the name of the One I worship I make sure i go back and correct it.
"shit all over consumers"...really. IE isn't some horrible virus MS installs by defauly on everyone's computer, rather it is a functional internet browser. It isn't the governments job to stop companies from making their product as they see fit to their target audience. As the customer you have the option to get another web browser and as the customer if you think MS is "shitting all over you" you wouldn't buy MS thus detering MS from "shitting all over consumers."
This isn't communist China, you have a choice.
Actually solar powered cars are a stupid idea. The best bet is to generate alternate power sources at power plants and then distibute it. If you are going to use electricity then a hub and spoke design is better because a large solar plant can work far more efficiently than a bunch of solar cars. Also it doesnt seem to be that solar power will ever be able to power a car up to todays power standards.
The problem has nothing to do with the power source, but all to do with the structural design developed to increase vehicle range. If solar vehicles cannot be made to pass the same crash tests as all other vehicles then perhaps we can convert the carpool lanes into solar lanes. Obviously this will have to wait until oil hits 100 a barrel and people start buying solar powered cars.
Everyone should store their data on Gmail accounts and then use google to find what you need, while letting corporations know what we are searching for so they can send us emails!!
This is going to be a long term goal. With the current infrastructure and number of people who can actuall afford a personal computer it isn't reasonable to expect this to change anything quickly. With all respect they have much larger problems then worrying about what software the comuters they can't afford are going to run.
Great another person who doesn't read the articles. Try doing some googling before posting. Better to be thought a fool then post and remove all doubt.
Microsoft isn't a monopoly. They may have a substantial ammount of the desktop market but that doesn't mean they are a monopoly. If you don't like have WMP or IE intergrated into your OS then go buy something else or even better get a free OS from one of the many OSS options out there. There are hundreds of stories on/. about compatible Linux apps are with Windows, so no hypocritical Windows is necessary because company X sends me *.doc files and I can't read them.
I for one don't use open source because I loaded windows on my PC because it was easy and it is what I use at work. I would have no problem grabbing a linux distro and loading it on my computer but that would mean I would have to invest the time to learn it and to actually install it. The need to use open source just isnt there, windows provides all I need and I have the money to pay for it.
Will this is somewhat true it is kind of misleading. While SP4 hasn't yet been approved my job as a network administrator has shown me that it is generally only a month before we are allowed to SMS push new patches. XP has even been approved for use, whether that is a good thing or not...
Fact one, slashdot is populated mostly by geeks. Geeks are all for stem cell research, embryo harvesting, genetic research, etc. Oddly enough though altering the good ol' rice our mother earth has been producing is a travesty. Pesticides alone are enough to worry about (hey it is that or watching locus eat your years supply of food) not to mention pollution in the air and water. So who cares if our rice is genetically altered.
Microsofts entry into the search engine market is just part of capatilism. After their settlement with the DOJ Microsoft can no longer pressure OEM's into preloading Microsoft with the options Microsoft would prefer. If by some chance Microsoft is able to take over the search engine market it won't be based on some sort of evil monopolistic plan or because they are soo well known because Google gets more hits than any other web site. Put your tin foil hats back on and stop worrying.
First: Corporations are here to make money. When American students forgoe education in technical fields US corporations will be forced to give the available positions to workers from coutnries outside the US. This is the equivalent of exporting money. The lazy culture American prosperity has fostered is about to cost the US its place as the worlds most dominant economy.
For a vast majority of the ever growing populace of the computer literate typing is superior to speaking. Most can type as fast or faster than they can speak, not to mention that hours of surfing would leave one with a dry throat. This is assuming that there is some simple way to click on links without having to say the entire URL. When it comes down to it voice recognition browsing is a novelty with no real use for those who have the capability to type. Anyone though who is physically challenged should be able to reap the benefits.
The only way to elimanate spam is to hold users accountable which is neat impossible with the anonmity the internet provides so unless you want to start registering your SSN and removing your foil hats just accept it as the small price for freedom.
If you would examine exhibit A (the front page of Slashdot) you would notice that all the articles point to another site. That is where the term slashdotting came from. Perhaps you have heard of this.
For those of you who have been to college know (hopefully) that all writers know the three most intriguing aspects of human life are Religion Sex and Death. Advertisers know this also and it is evident in the ads we see everday. I won't actually see Spiderman till tomorrow but I can tell you that Star Wars is not Christian, there may be some parallels but the same holds true for most religions in the world. Even if you don't believe the Bible and the story of Christ are fact, it would be hard to argue that it is one of the most interesting stories seeing as how the Bible is the best selling book in the world and thanks to missionaries people everywhere have heard something about Jesus.

I see you slept in economics class, or perhaps you thought home ec counted, either way you need help.

If not then I hope i get a complimentary towel.

The only reason we have VHS instead of BETA is the porn industry chose VHS.
They are going to say the pr0n you download isn't yours and that you can't make copies.
