  1. Malaysia..... on Malaysian Blogger On Trial For Sedition · · Score: 2, Interesting

Malaysia isn't such a bad place as far as countries that I've visited go... My wife is Malay, and she wouldn't move back. Every time I visit there, I get the feeling that it is slowly being dragged into the 21st century. There are still many laws that give native Malay's/Muslims preferential treatment over other ethnic groups (Indians/Chinese). My understanding is that this is fairly limited to things like low-interest government loans.... I dunno... I enjoy visiting there, I don't think that I'd want to live there though.

To put this in a way that slasdotters can understand. It's trying to hire an auto-mechanic, the people that the auto-recruiters are sending you barely understand how an engine works, they get the concept of: exploshuns and pistons. (Therefore they feel qualified for the job) But they don't get things like the differences between a 2-stroke, 4-stroke and/or a diesel, and they sure as hell don't have an understanding on how the electrical, fuel, cooling, etc etc... systems work together to make the car go forward.

Nor do they understand that problems in one of the systems can/may cause a different system to show the symptoms.

It's like everyone thinks that no one else has never had their heart broken before, or been through a rough patch in life before. Ancient Greeks were writing tragedies about this sort of crap 1000's of years before this girl decided that the best course of action was to kill herself. That was HER decision and the woman that everyone is happily ostracising has no criminal liability in the matter. If I killed myself the every time someone suggested it, I probably wouldn't have made it past the age of 8 (Plus I'd have Jesus beat on the whole resurrection thing).

I mean if I got into "Angry Words" with someone at a bar and told them something along the lines of "Go kill yourself" and they went home and committed suicide, I'm not liable. This whole thing is just like patents add the words "Online" and all of a sudden the Unknowledgable freak out and get their panties all twisted.

The way everyone is whining about this I want to commit suicide.

Actually I despise cPanel with a passion... I had the displeasure of working for a hosting company that had somewhere around 800-1000 cpanel servers.... To the uninitiated cPanel is pretty nifty, to people who actually have to admin cPanel, it's horribly insecure. We had cPanel servers comprimised on a daily basis due to cPanel architecture decisions/insecure perms, etc etc etc. 1/2 the cPanel code is compiled perl bytecode because the author is paraniod that his horrid coding skills will be exposed.

Extra Bonus! cPanel has a format HD GUI Options which used to make my life double plus Good when ignorant custo.. errm cPanel users tried to use it... I had to field calls like: "I hit the Format HD button and now my server isn't responding! What did you guys do?!?! I want it back up now!"

Cpanel needs to die, or at least get a f*in clue. IMHO Plesk is WAY WAY better than cPanel

We used to joke that we should add an extra page to the cPanel UI that was just a BIG RED BUTTON that said "Do NOT press this button, or else bad things will happen!" Then if the button was pressed, add the browsers IP to IPtables to block.

We never did implement this, as we knew it would just make our lives even more miserable.
