Marketing do matter, but Mac OS still haven't figured out a way to play games.
Something so simple yet still not nearly as competitive as windows in 2005. What am I saying, I don't think Mac Gaming is even as competitive as linux. Mac gaming is virtually nonexistent.
There are 2 sides to the financial use of linux. First is the front, the user interface like quicken. Second is the back, the database holding the financial data like oracle. Linux still has a long way to go in both.
This year I played console games online on the PS2 for the first time. With no graphic problems, no major tweaking needed. It just worked out-of-box.
Today I play as much games online on my PS2 as my PC. That's something I never thought would be possible for me anyways.
If they shipped the next consoles with a mouse, keyboard, hard drive, I'd say PC gaming is toast. A game like HL2 can easily be done on a PS3 and xbox2.
U.S highschools needs to spend some real money in edumacation. Universities are no better. There is a massive financial emphasis on sports.
While I am a sports fan myself, there is a danger to putting so much emphasis on something give you 1% employment chance. Few people actually play professional sports for a living. That's like pumping in millions into a class that gets you no where. Japanese teachers are paid 2-3x more than American counterparts.
While alone Intel is stable, the combination of Intel chip + Intel motherboard is virtually unbreakable. It's so solid, I think that combination can rival the best of Apple's hardware.
Problem being, what if 64bit really takes off in a few years. Then you'd rather settle for an Opteron now.
I bought the ATI Radeon 9800 and I was terribly disappointed. The fan fried not once, twice, but 3 times. I had paid almost $100 in RMA returns and shipping.
I no longer can leave my PC running around the clock because I know the card would fry if I leave it up. I already have gigantic fans running with open case. No overclocking at all.
Sorry ATI, but I am going back to Nvidia in my next purchase. ATI drivers are also terribly lousy. If you need a new Catalyst driver every month, you got problems. Half the games were always filled with overheated white dots. I treat my hardware with RTFM care. And I deal with another ATI product again.
Just like the sports analogy, the coach needs to put the players in a position to win. Bad management = bad coach. Unfortunately the techies are always the ones to get blamed and get fired.
And I bet you wish someone would give you +1 insightful for being able to count.
Since you are so smart, I'll tell you at least 1 out of the 200 software M$ makes do triple in size. I'll let u figure out which one. Fucking M$ fanboys.
I personally regret buying HL2. Not so much for steam. But the driving parts make me extremely sick. And at times the giant bugs look too real. I am like terrified playing the game, I don't know why. I have more reasons to shut the game off than turning it on.
Yah as if management ever read the code. As long as the young guns act slave-ish for the first decade out of school, management will love them.
I learned the hard way that telling management to get their own fucking coffee made me public enemy #1. Good developer vs bad developer only lie in between how well you handle firedrills and fetch coffee.
Well what's scary is in every university recruiting event, M$ has taken some of the smartest programming young talents I have ever seen. Where is the progress? The products get buggier every year. The products get more bloated and triple in size.
Every game that came out of Id Software is pitch black. I turn the brightness, gamma, contrast up to the max, and it's never bright enough. In my own tests I have purposely ran demo tests with different brightness. I swear the FPS is the same.
If Google OS has DirectX game compability, then I am interested for real. No joke. Otherwise I'll just stick to any other existing version of linux or windows for games etc.
This browser thing must be a big news. I already got a ton of emails from friends and family about this. As if M$ is going down for good.
Don't celebrate yet. Last time I tried some cover printing on a CD over at a friend's house, it got permanently stuck in my CD player. Yep, it was the most expensive label I ever paid for.

Guess you'll be in a coma for the next 10 years.
That sounds aweful. But that's no better than shooting a ball of flame toward a turtle.
Of course this has a positive spin. This is coming out of their marketing / public relations.
Has anyone seen the end of the tunnel? In the end, you will be able to run those free software from linux on an overpriced sun hardware. That's it!

Well, why not Apple and Microsoft. Then it'll truely be a sick monopoly.

Well let me summarize what Sun is doing.
1.) See what IBM lawyers are doing.
2.) See what M$ lawyers are doing.
3.) See what Linux GPL is doing.
4.) Do whatever they are doing.
5.) Put purple sticker on it.
6.) Profit!

Ever since AMD became the definitive number 1 in the market, I seriously lost interest in Intel stuff.
Every game that came out of Id Software is pitch black. I turn the brightness, gamma, contrast up to the max, and it's never bright enough. In my own tests I have purposely ran demo tests with different brightness. I swear the FPS is the same.
Good idea. I will try just that.
Woah, Sony is not nearly in the same evil category as EA and M$.
If Sony is evil, it's becaue their stuff is overpriced. They don't buy out competition on a weekly basis and dilute the industry.
1.) NWO = New Windows OS
2.) William Gates III in ascii code sums up to 666.
3.) M$ commercials of "where do you want to go today" actually plays some song in the background where certain tones match satanic worshipping.
Seriously if M$ became opensource, it wouldn't be any more crazy than any of the above.
If Google OS has DirectX game compability, then I am interested for real. No joke. Otherwise I'll just stick to any other existing version of linux or windows for games etc.

Hey in parts of India, it's just plain wrong to eat cow. I have had plenty of Steak here.
Damn this summed up about everything negative in the industry. You could have gotten +99 very Insightful if you didn't post as Anonymous Coward.
