So do other animated movies/cartoons have complex plots?
Bugs Life: Did you think that he wouldn't save the day?
Disney movies (Alladin, Little Mermaid, etc.): Did you think that he/she would not get the girl/guy in the end?
Roadrunner Cartoons: Did you really think the coyote would get him this time?
Animated Movies/Cartoons are generally focused on a very young audience and thus have really simple plots. However a plot can be easy to understand and still be good at the same time; it's just hard to do. One reason that Shrek did pretty well was that it had some humor that was adult focused so parents would be interested in the movie as well as their kids.
Without all of these Windows/Outlook Virus updates how would the/. crowd rid themselves of their pent up anger. I mean, just think about it. Without this anti-microsoft outlet we could have thousands of/.ers rampaging without remorse through cyberspace.
But yeah, I agree with you.
Maybe it got modded as "funny" because it was simply a joke written with the intention of making the typical anti-Microsoft/. reader get a quick laugh. Of course it is obvious that the server was just switched since if clearly states that in the article. And I am running Windows 2000 right now! Remember: it was just a joke!
"AT&T say that as of Tuesday morning they have moved 500,000 of their subscribers over to their network."
But I am not one of them!! As I have stated in my comments to the other @Home posts the last few days, I have still not been contacted in any form by AT&T regarding my loss of service either before or after the service was turned off. The lastest update on the AT&T website says that the Sacramento area should get service Wednesday of Thursday and that a representative will call when service is restored. We'll see if that really happens.
Customers of AT&T cable currently utilize the Excite@Home network for at least email and web hosting. I am not sure if my actual service is going to be affected but I will certainly lose my email and webspace from @Home. The GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE part of this is that I have yet to hear from either AT&T or Excite@Home about how this will affect my cable service. I sure hope I can get DSL now!
As an excite@home customer I am not happy about the current situtation since a fast (or somewhat fast) internet connection is now a necessary part of life. However I am less happy with the lack of communication from excite to their customers. A few weeks ago I recieved one email stating that connections and features could be affected in the future and that they would be in steady contact with further updates. I haven't heard back since! Hopefully DSL is available in my area now.
A lot of these replies talk about how this device is useless and they would rather just buy a regular 4-port switch. I see your point but I don't think 3Com cares if you buy this to wire your home. The article mentions working closely with cubicle manufacturers. If you work in a cube farm (and I do) you can immediately see how 3Com can make a lot of money from these.
Step1: 3Com gets cubicle companies to build these into cubes.
Step2: Cubicle companies build these switches into their cubes becuase they will have a nifty new feature to use in selling their cubes.
Step3: Large companies like mine buy new cubes for slightly higher price to get this nifty must have feature.
This seems clear to me....But my mind might be fuzzy from staring at this grey cube wall all day.
I know most readers here aren't using hotmail but the article also mentions that the technology has also been deployed [Microsoft Press Release] on Ebay. Thought you might want to know!
Maybe Intel is just being prudent and creating high speed processors before new apps come out that require such high speeds. This way they won't be caught producing slow processors that nobody wants and take a huge hit.
Hey that's an incredibly brilliant and indepth insight considering that it was stated in the article. You did read the article right???

Yeah everything seems down at blizzard. Maybe their servers can't handle the load from the beta sign-ups?

Hey, the data about the Royal Page says that the Windows 2000 server has been up 5.56 days since the last reboot.
Is that a World Record for IIS?
uhhhh....uhhhhhh....I must have meant "Wednesday or Thursday". My darn eyes were spacing out again from staring at this cubicle wall!!
