Quit watching the news, it's really not as bad as they want you to think it is.
You and your neighbors make your neighborhood. As soon as you hide inside your house, you've retreated. If you don't know your neighbors, you're part of the problem.
I think you're ignoring the OP's main point: the cult-like dedication. Yes, Apple makes a good product. But there's a large chunk of that decision being made for materialistic reasons. Apple has the hip product, it's trendy. Most people aren't out there comparing specs and reading reviews.
The shuttle airframes are rated at 100 flights each. I think it's more that they were designed 35 years ago - this is one case where a new vehicle really could be better, faster, cheaper.
Democrats are a strange breed. When it comes to Education or Environment or Social welfare or financial regulation, government employees are paragons of virtue and epitome of ability.
But when it comes to warrant-less wiretaps, surveillance, etc the very same "Govt is incompetent, Govt is the problem, Govt cant do anything right. Govt employees are useless slackers...".
It's perfectly acceptable to surf the web during one's OSHA mandated break.
The government can set up acceptable terms of use of government equipment. Censoring websites gets into a bit grayer area, but using government resources for your personal entertainment purposes (read: surfing) falls outside the scope of acceptable use much easier.
I never understood the GH and RB haters that shunned the idea of playing a "fake guitar" but saw absolutely nothing wrong with using a plastic controller that amounted to making fake dudes run around and kill each other with fake guns.
You're right, both parties are guilty of it. The difference is one party tends to have some members that want to do something about it, and the entire party is demonized as being inhumane.
New vehicles already have side sensors. All vehicles in the convoy will have to be networked together. I'm sure that's at least part of how it will work. There will need to be lots of data exchanged - how heavy each vehicle is or some sort of stopping distance requirements or minimums (the lead shouldn't slow faster than any of the vehicles are capable of slowing), destination information (how long you intend to convoy), how long you can convoy (fuel), joining/exiting requests...
He gets paid by the company that he's transporting for - seriously, why can't we re-purpose the long haul truckers? He's already a professional driver. Give him a sticker on the back that says he's road train compliant.
Or pay by the mile? There's not a large leap in tech there since our smartphones will be integrated with the car soon enough. Join a private road train network, GPS keeps track of distance, pay up electronically when you get off the train.... I drive the family 1000 miles away twice a year - I'd pay $50 each way so that I can eat/sleep/not pay attention for 15 hrs straight.
TFS didn't compare it to the settling of the west, but more along the lines of the Pilgrims - where there wasn't even a guarantee of making it to the New World alive after a couple months on a ship, let alone the possibility of coming back.
It's probably been a while since you've gotten into a car accident? Have you ditched the seatbelt yet?:)
You're not going to see these going down the street ahead of the ice cream truck. This is probably more for Presidential appearances or events where there's fuel for controversy.

Good to see you have it all figured out - I had no idea my country sucked so bad.
The glass is half empty because THE USA FUCKIN STOLE IT!!

Mother Nature disagrees.
1. Lightning zaps a volcano ...
2. Wait X [m/b]illion years
3.
4. Profit
And yet the creationists are the ones with fairy tales? [does not compute]
20 yrs from now, everything will have 256k of memory too. Why would we need more?
Maybe Texas should just secede and be the place where all the nut jobs live.
That'd be kinda hard to move all the Californians there, wouldn't it?
The Mir didn't make a very good re-entry vehicle.
Arguably better than SkyLab?
Seriously?! You make it too easy.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish here?
P.T. Barnum is still smiling.

Didn't Mr. Gates allegedly say something similar? One core should be enough for any OS.

I don't know why they'd be worried their livers - that's why God gave us two of them, in case one goes bad.
Maybe we shouldn't pretend the need to hold a brick to your head either, especially in a society that would tend to notice that anomaly.
Let the circle jerk begin. I see you already have a few participants.
I'm sure there's a pile of municipalities lining up to buy these $800k vans. I wonder if there's a discount if you buy more than 5...
