    No thing is moving in the same direction as the wave.

    Not quite an exact analogy. In water waves, an individual molecule moves slightly forward as it goes up and slightly backward as it goes down, following an approximately elliptic path. But yes, it has no mean movement in the wave direction.

    It's easiest to think of a wave as a traveling disturbance.

    I have a few exercises I give my students in which they have to make a guess at a quantity and then make a calculation to back it up. My favorite: If you marked off a tract of land in a 3x3 foot grid, and one person stood at each intersection, how many square miles would accommodate the entire world population, and what would be a country of comparable size?

    Of course, after doing the calculation, one might ponder what it would smell like...

    Pretty sure you're wrong. Life insurance generally comes with a no-pay provision for suicide that runs out after a specified time, typically two years.

    On the surface your statement sounds really good, I certainly believe that I would get sick of violence very quickly after seeing it first hand.

    On the first Christmas of WW1, troops came out of the trenches en masse on both sides and shared an observance. The following Christmases, most of them just kept on shooting.
