I easily navigated the surrounding plastic andstrategically popped out the remote only to find what hadappeared to be a cardboard insert was instead the user's manual now cut in halfreplete with pages of remote codes (for universal remote). So, Ihad to tape the manual back together to look up the codes.

I've cut my share of manuals in half too... Both because the knife slipped, and because I just didn't know it was there. I usually just take off across the top of the plastic with some scissors, and some manufacturers like to put manuals up there...

What? Arts require creativity and thinking. If you're a recognized specialist in any scientific field, you probably have some ability to think, and think creatively. Also, you might just have time and money to take in some of the arts, or think philosophically. Maybe I read your post wrong, but there is a reason why many people (like Newton) are recognized for their unique philosophy as well as their contribution to the sciences.

On the other hand, it is pretty annoying when someone thinks they know everything just because they know a lot about one specific thing...

Seriously, having a free country never meant that you could do whatever the heck you please. Just because people don't understand the information age (important people) doesn't mean they're out to get us and our freedoms. It just means that they're old. We'll get it right one of these days.

In the case of Iraq, many of the same folks that kill soldiers with roadside bombs kill civilians indiscriminately. I think targeting civilians is what most people consider the definition of terrorism. At the same time, some of the reports I've seen on the news recently indicate that it is not one group of people that are attacking the troops, so different ones may or may not attack civilians. I don't know. The whole damn thing is pretty confusing.

Politics has always been a game of blame the opposition. When the Democrats swing back into power for a while, I'm sure the Republicans will start blaming them for everything that goes wrong. It's too bad we don't hear about what goes right every once in a while. I think our Nation's opinion of the war in Iraq would be a lot different if we did.

"If they are unable to tell us some of these secrets for whatever reason (wartime operations, anonymous sources, fugitives, etc), then they should under no circumstances be forced to reveal this information." Who exactly would be forcing them to reveal this information? In one case (wartime operations) it sounds like their employer or a third party (not their government) would probably be forcing them to reveal information, possibly against the government's wishes. This is an interesting example and it illustrates what's tough about the freedom of the press. There are some situations where the press shouldn't reveal their information to everyone, at least not at the time. We have laws in the US to regulate some of these situations. If the press reports irresponsibly, innocent people could die or be endangered. In a perfect world, we wouldn't have to worry about this, but ours isn't perfect.
