That is unless you work outdoors. Then this would be great. I work in EMS, but this would be applicable to any public safety agency...Fire Dept, Law enforcement, utility workers, etc. Also wet, cold and dangerous environments can exist indoors also.
You forget the car companies. People always rail against Amtrak and the airlines for being subsidized by the government. They complain these businesses shouldn't receive subisdies and should stay afloat on there own. However they ignore by FAR the biggest transportation subsidies go towards the automotive transport systems. Rail companies are expected to build and maintain track yet how many roads have Ford and GM built? If the government spent even a small percentage of what it spends on roads on rail and transit systems that would be much more efficient, less polluting and far less dangerous
I wonder how effective this really is for home use? Will the performance improvement on my Powerbook be worth running XGrid on it and firing up a couple older computers (600Mhz IMac, Pentium III 1.0 Ghz) on Linux/OS X and adding them to the cluster. Would 100Mbs Ethernet cut it, what about WLAN?
Our local NPR station is purchasing a digital transmitter to provide services similar to satellite radio without fees. They plan on having specialized channels including all-news and all-music channels. The digital radio should have much clearer sound then FM. The major obstacle of course will be that people will have to by digital receivers to utilize these services.
The exhaustive list of games that I desperately wish would be ported:
Nobunga's Ambition
Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Liberty or Death
Ghengis Khan
Conflict
Any of the Early Ultimas
Chrono Trigger
Did I mention Chrono Trigger
Those cool Japanese games on the Wonderswan
Did I mention Chrono Trigger?
The problem with sales tax is that it is very regressive. That is poor people are excessively burdened by it. I agree the tax code is over-complex but a flat sales tax would not be a good solution.
Yes I'm sure they aren't the models of safety and environmental consideration that large oil refineries are. Those oil refineries and storage tanks Never blow up.
It also takes lots of fossil fuels to remove more fossil fuels from underground. We don't have to ship corn from Alaska, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia. Moving and placing oil rigs and driling equipmen, laying pipelines and fueling supertankers has got to be more fuel intesive than plowing, planting and fertilizing a field.
How many gallons of oil does it take to put a gallon of gasoline in your tank. And remember one gallon of oil does not equal one gallon of gasoline.
Also, if you are going to be paying money to fuel your car would you rather pay it to American farmers and corporations or foreign oil barons and corporations.
I don't imagine the game developers/distributors can predict precisely which games could cause this to happen and seperately label them. People's reactions are to unique and they can't possibly test them in every potential lighting/TV equipment scenario with any accuracy. Someone with photosensitive seizures may play the same game for months and then one day suffer a seizure even they've played that particular level/area many times before. There is also wide variability in how susceptible that person is to a seizure at the time they are playing a game. If the person is tired or under stress and things like blood sugar level and how long it's been since taking their anti-seizure medication can highly effect how certain epileptics react to a certain stimulus. This is why the labelling is on the hardware usually and not the game.
I believe it would be disingenuous of the game manufacturers to label certain games with seizure warnings and leave others without when they really have no way of knowing which ones will or will not stimulate a given epileptic.
That said if I were you I would consider the following things. Maybe use PCs and not consoles for gaming so you have more control over the frame rate and refresh rate, hoping to avoid the certain frequencies that may cause this. Also something like a Gameboy Advance or one of those small LCD screens that attach to the console may prevent this, I would investigate this.
Also if you have and HD TV or an available computer monitor you might try using progressive scan capable consoles as they should have higher refresh rates and less flicker. And I'm sure there a websites/blogs/forums for epileptic gamers. Check them out and see what works for them.
If we end the Electoral College candidates will only campaign in the biggest states with the biggest cities and nowhere else. They would only serve those constituents and their interests, not the interests of the country as a whole. One could easily win by campaigning in New York, Texas, California and Illinois. Attempts to end the Electoral College are unwise and misguided.
Actually the Postal Service is not really privatized. The Postmaster General is still an appointed position, they do not pay taxes to local or federal governments nor abide by labor standards set forth for private companies. That said their budget is entirely seperate from the federal budget, they receive absolutely no tax money and are expected to be self-sufficient. Their employees are federal workers in the civil service system however and are entitled to all benefits as such.
The aren't allowed to keep all of their profits either though. In years they make too much money the federal government takes most of it for general revenue. Additionally the USPS has to comply with all kinds of draconian rules set by Congress (see Franking privileges).
So you see they aren't privatized, their leadership is federally appointed and the workers federal employees but the USPS is not completely integrated into the federal government (like..say..the Park Service).
I'm sure that their review was completely unbiased and fair. It's not like you have to look at 30 animated AMD ads to read the review. The whole review seems to be one big AMD ad campaign. I wouldn't put any credence in this review at all.
I have no problem with the state government establishing a high-speed network. It shows some foresight which is often lacking in government. Just because each person isn't using the capacity of the network today doesn't mean they won't tomorrow.
This can be good for business to if done correctly. For one this project is going to employ lots of people and is going to involve the purchase of lots of equipment. Possibly they should then leave the network open for businesses to provide media and content services. Cable companies are still going to be needed to rpovide access to TV and HDTV content, if they could concentrate on competing based on their content and not capital-intensive infrastructure it would probably help their bottom line. Giving preference to local businesses would definitely help the community and payback the initial investment over time.
This would be great, and hugely popular I think. I would advocate being able to play policemen. It may be a slightly different experience from being the criminal element. Of course there has to be the option of being the crooked cop.
you could also set a promotion system, get on the Vice Squad, get your Ferrari and pastel suit (at least in Vice city) maybe eventually a helicopter.

I hope your son is feeling well and good luck.
In my parking lot with 170,000 miles on it. It's the best automotive investment I've ever made.
We don't live in a democracy, the United States was founded as a republic. The Founding Fathers rightfully feared a true democracy.

Unless you have Medicaid. In which case you get the health care and the hospital gets the shaft.
How about a mouse?
Super Mario Sunshine!!!!.......was released in 2002...
I haven't played a game more original (or bizarre) in a very long time.
This could work both ways. Give your EZ pass to your buddy(or clone it and attach it someone's car) and send them on their way.
