I absolutely agree. Popular music is as much about music as it is about people and culture. I still think a world will exist where you and your friends will talk about the latest hit song. But soon it will be an independent artist distributed through something like "radio" but not controlled by only a handful of corporations. Look at last.fm, ilike, pandora, etc... This is the next wave (I hope).
If you like Ubuntu, but want everything (non-free-as-in-freedom) installed, try Linux Mint. It's Ubuntu with everything you will eventually install anyways. It even has a special focus on making wireless cards work well. I highly recommend this distribution!
Ok, this is off-topic, but this stream is really nice and very high quality sound. But, the other virgin stream that comes with Amarok shows the song titles. Why do they not show with this stream? Is it an ogg thing or an Amarok thing?
This is fantastic news, really. A sustainable business model for an open source project. Its a win-win for everyone--and its probably what motivates the songbird team http://songbirdnest.com/ as well.
Awesome news--more excellent open source projects are coming soon!
So what if global warming isn't occuring? Would it be so bad to have cleaner air to breath? And possibly less dependance on non-renewable energy sources? Saving the world is just a bonus.
If you don't mind spending a few hours figuring a few small things out, KnoppMyth makes installing Myth a snap! Seriously... it detected all of my hardware and set everything up perfectly in a matter of minutes. I had to spend some time tweaking things to my liking, but if you are into computers at all, it really isn't that hard. Try it!
For the record, I don't even know how to recompile the kernel (never needed to).... A bit of Linux knowledge would help, but there are friendly people in the forums to help you...
I tried GBPVR, Sage, MediaPortal because I was afraid to try Myth on Linux.
Turns out, Myth (knoppmyth) was the easiest and most complete of all. Its works great and the webpage access is handy when you want to schedule something while way.
I'd like some way of having Firefox automatically select the `printer happy` version of a story, as they're entirely free of ads most of the time.
Get Greasemonkey extension. Then, find the extension for it that does this--Its called Friend-of-Print-Friendly v1.3. At least thats what I have. Bam... Just what you asked for. Sorry I'm too lazy to find the links for you. Google is your friend.
Just in case it gets slashdotted, here is an except of the content of the page:
Dear Slashdot: You are a bunch of ignorant morons. Only a week ago, you ran a year-old (and dupe) article about hacking a Palm Treo on the front page. Today, we find you've taken all of this up-to-the-minute hard work and thrown it in the bowels of one of your asinine little categories where nobody will see it. As usual, your editors have proven clueless behemoths exhibiting such stupidity that it somehow manages to lower the IQ of the entire Internet. Kindly kiss my hind quarters, and thanks again idiots for censoring the Internet for us.
OpenLDAP is a snap! Its so easy to use, even a 10-year unix veteran can get it integrated with some systems assuming everything is setup properly and has been designed for integrating in this manner!
I just installed Linspire for my father (57 years old, non-technical) after his PC went down due to virus/spyware infections.
Regardless of your opinion of Linspire as my choice, he prefers it to windows. He loves the Click-and-Run. According to him, "it has EVERYTHING you could possibly want to run".
I like the fact that he's much less likely to get viruses and spyware.
True, he only uses it for surfing the web and playing solitaire, but still... Linux on the desktop is going to make a bigger and bigger splash.... no matter what Microsoft does or doesn't do.
I wonder what would have happened if HR or Marketing was in charge of it instead.

Do we support this behavior (DJ Danger Mouse) or do we not (the example above)???

Wow, how much do you get paid to astroturf for Microsoft? What a cool job to have!
Now they aren't getting paid in addition to not getting world-wide exposure.

damn slashdot... What is "Microsoft"... Please provide some background in the article summary!
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=2786
According to this, its quite usable in Wine.
Let's just hope this screen resists scratches much better than the nano. At least you do not have to look at the nano to enjoy listening to it...
Any idea how to get ahold of a bound and printed version of this?
Well since you asked what could possibly be the ad-word, in gmail, that stanza gives me:

I once put together a MythTV box that I built from scratch!
As opposed to the classic closed-source problem: can't do anything that the s/w providor did not intended you to do.

You must have some VERY talent, well-paid people in this company. I bet they are good-looking and smell good, too.
Hey, I have a better idea. Let's make better business models for making money with Open Source.
