  2. Re:it's sociological on DRM Free Music is Everywhere · · Score: 1

I absolutely agree. Popular music is as much about music as it is about people and culture. I still think a world will exist where you and your friends will talk about the latest hit song. But soon it will be an independent artist distributed through something like "radio" but not controlled by only a handful of corporations. Look at last.fm, ilike, pandora, etc... This is the next wave (I hope).

I had to spend some time tweaking things to my liking, but if you are into computers at all, it really isn't that hard. Try it!

For the record, I don't even know how to recompile the kernel (never needed to).... A bit of Linux knowledge would help, but there are friendly people in the forums to help you...

I just installed Linspire for my father (57 years old, non-technical) after his PC went down due to virus/spyware infections.

Regardless of your opinion of Linspire as my choice, he prefers it to windows. He loves the Click-and-Run. According to him, "it has EVERYTHING you could possibly want to run".

I like the fact that he's much less likely to get viruses and spyware.

True, he only uses it for surfing the web and playing solitaire, but still... Linux on the desktop is going to make a bigger and bigger splash.... no matter what Microsoft does or doesn't do.
