I'm not sure if this should be a reply to someone else's comment, so I'll start anew.

I'm the guy who helped port the gaim-encryption plugin FROM Linux over TO Win32. (The opposite of the article and this topic, I know). But, after I sent the patches back up to the maintainer, he was able to easily carry it in his source tree.

I used Cygwin and MingW to handle the compilation with his original autoconf, etc. build environment. Of course, there was the requisite GTK+ libraries, etc. that went along with it too. But the magic was MingW and Cygwin.

Perhaps this could give the various developers some insight that "it really can be done".

(Matter|Engery) are neither created nor destroyed. They only change form.

I think it's fair to view life in the same sense. Sure our bodies will cease to take in oxygen and produce carbon dioxide, but the result of our decomposition goes on to further other plant and animal life, which gives off the elements for other growth (same as compost for your garden).

Sure it is much much more emotional than that, yes. But that's the 'gift' we humans have. However, the basic underlying truth is we are neither created nor destroyed; We simply change form.

Regardless of what magical specs, speeds, function (game versus video versus database), etc... sorry folks, SATA smokes SCSI any day of the week. The cost ratio is unmistakable. You'd be a fool to buy into SCSI again at this point in the tech curve. Yes, you can make cases for servers, datacenters, databases, mega-througput, etc.

But for the rest of the non-critical systems (all the home users and most geeks), it's SATA. Period. And yes, I have a U160 SCSI RAID array, and my new 250gig SATA disk smokes it. And significantly cheaper.

    anyway. richard, u're a loon.

Now this point is interesting. Which is the uncompetative behavior here, offering specific OEMs cheaper prices, or locking other OEMs out of those prices?

Option C: Neither. The uncompetitive (get a dictionary, dork) behaviour is the fact that Microsoft ALSO says in th OEM agreement an OEM can't install other Operating Systems nor dual/multi-boot. The agreements are written to maintain their monopoly. Hence, anti-trust. (Wow, you really need help)

OEMs who were dual booting Windows with Linux were using the selling point of Windows to shift Linux, which I beleive is a unfair to MS.

Unfair to Microsoft? They are a monopoly and have used anti-competitive tactics to reach that state. Perhaps they are the ones unfair to the OEMs. Besides, any OEM who has installed a non-Microsoft OS on the same system as a Microsoft OS has been severly punished. You can't find an OEM that has bought into the Microsoft religion that also provides non-Microsoft OS as a default install. Yes, Microtel does Linux and blank systems. They are apparently not a Microsoft OEM as Dell, IBM, etc.

This has all been proven in court, btw. Try educating yourself, troll.
