IT doesn't talk to anyone, it just does what it's programmed to do. Do you blame the TV for the dumbing-down of television. Maybe it's your modems fault that some of the posts on/. are dumb?
"and like the OSDN bar at the top, it says 'Our Network'. I know it's their network, it's not mine. Does anyone else like it when OSDN talks down to them like that?"
but I think they should have adjusted the timeline to after the events in "Return of the Jedi".
Having an event that big in your MMORPG just seems to ruin it for me. It kind of re-enforces the fact that you are just a bit player. If the timeline was after, your character might have a chance to be a big part of a storyline, make your own lore.
But then again I know how Battlefield 1942 is going to turn out and I LOVE playing that game...hehehe
Yeah, I know I can download all of the packages that it needs and put them in/usr/portage/distfiles but first I have to find out WHAT packages it wants to just install.
Plus I'm in one of the far corners of the world (Santa Fe, NM) that DOESN'T have broadband everywhere so I have to do all this downloading over dial up.
I should just take my machine down to the lead guys house in Albuquerque and hook on to his hub to install.;)
Other than that, it looks pretty neat! nifty even.
So really, your big problem is your instant gratification problem. You can't wait the 4 or 5 months until the movie comes out on DVD or VHS to see it and all those people ruin YOUR movie experience so instead you download a pirated copy.
You poor fellow, and if those damn people in line at the computer store would just hurry up and HAVE their credit card or check out and ready you wouldn't have to pirate Warcraft 3. They ruin your game buying experience.
Yeah, I've got some sympathy for you...oh..oh wait...there it went....drifting out the window..floating away like a mist.
I see an Indian national or someone from Signapore resign from their position at a large company like Veritas, I won't believe that they are as skilled at lying as their American counterparts.
Maybe they could get the head football coaching job at Notre Dame, but CIO or CEO? no way.
If you look through the news section of the Offspring web site you'll see where they've played lots of benefits and tried to give away their last album for free on the net. Sony sued them to prevent them from giving away their album.
The BizTalk servers use Visio to do this I believe.
They allow you to define objects, then create relationships between objects w/o having to code is that what you are thinking about?

What's one of the big reasons people always give for not switching to Linux? What's one of the big reasons that many of us STILL have Windows boxes or dual-boot?
The games.
Now we've got two or three big games being released for the Linux platforms. (UT 2003, NWN(when it's done?), Quake 3(I know released heap long time ago, but it's still a big game) Proof that Linux can run major market games. May help sway some people.

What *I* would like to see is games released in this Live CD fashion. So that you don't have to worry about getting the latet drivers. It almost turns any computer into a gaming console. You just put in the CD, reboot, and play. Don't have to worry about clearing out hard drive space or buying a new hard drive so you have enough space. You don't have to worry about having the drivers that work with the game. It's all bundled up in the UT OS I don't know how it was for some people, but it was a PAIN trying to get Quake and Quake2 installed and running under Linux for me.
Heck you and some friends could burn off these CD's and head to your local internet cafe or Best Buy and play some UT over the net...hehehehe
Trillian 0.74 continues to be free, it's lacking in some of the pro features like plugins but hey, I managed to get by with 4 other versions of Trillian without the plugins.
It may not be Open Source, but it's the next best thing. Free.

I've programmed in both ASP and PHP, started out using ASP. I've been doing more and more PHP programming by choice recently due to the performance benefit I've seen by using PHP.
I converted my personal ASP site over to PHP some time ago and noticed that it ran MUCH faster using PHP, page loads were faster, DB queries we faster, etc...
Comparing them side-by-side on a Windows machine, I've still seen better performance out of PHP than ASP, even ASP server side components. Plus the ability to call both Java and COM objects on the same page makes it a no-brainer for web development. (especially how long it took VBScript to get regular expressions)
Now ASP.NET and JSP, that's a different story... but PHP kicks ASPs butt every time.
I don't think they mean to charge end users, they mean to charge the distrubtors (WinAmp MusicMatch, etc...) per units shipped (how many people have downloaded Winamp?) Which could kill some of them, a'la Internet Radio stations.
I could be reading the information page wrong though.
This is a big gripe of mine about Mozilla too. Sometimes I have to click and swipe 3 o 4 times before I finally select the text in the address bar. I do this a lot when I copy and paste links into there or when I want to change the URL a tad.
I was going by the price I saw at the webstore ($34.99) and the price I saw at gamestop.com ($14.99 a piece, $19.99 for the game of the year edition)
You are correct, if you do not own a console and do not have a spare machine that you can throw windows on. Then Transgaming WILL allow you to run more games that you can without it.
Although for the cost of 2 subscriptions and 2 copies of Kohan for the subscribers (~$50) you could buy a PS1 or Dreamcast and have access to an even larger catalog of games than Transgaming + Linux allows.:)
My point isn't to bash Transgaming for trying, I just wish they would concentrate on porting more popular games.
I'm also getting a bit disgruntled with PC gaming as it is.
Deer Hunter? Then Big Game Hunter and Who Wants to be a Millionare.
Why not work on being more compatible with more popular games? I see a lot of games on the list at level 4, but what does that mean really?
To find out I have to make sure that my video driver are up to date (not a bad idea, but not a trivial task under Linux), then get Transgamings WineX installed (another unknown, do I have all of the libraries it needs and up to date?), THEN install the game and see if it works. If it doesn't, spend some more time making sure that I've covered all my bases (that belong to us) before I get replies to my cry for help like "Install the latest video drivers." or "Why would you want to play game X anyway?".
Compared to just keeping a Windows machine around for games (or a Console?) or dual booting.... dunno just seems like an awful lot of effort.
Where do the "Black boxes" come from if not research?
Research and papers are legal, but building and distributing the "black boxes" is not? you can publish findings, but not code?
How do you do publish a research paper without some kind of code or algorithms? Even an English Language description (does that mean that Spanish and Russian descriptions are outlawed?)
"Well, I can't publish this because I don't want to go to jail or get sued so you'll just have to take my word for it."

or whenever someone labels themselves as a "top flight consultant" or "someone at the top of my business", I just want to slap them.
It's like someone trying to give themselves a nickname "Call me Mad Dog", "No, I'm going to call you "Flame Sparker Smelly" from now on."
Is it requiring a network connection.

download a no-cd crack for the game instead?

The programmers in those countries keep listing classes they took in College/high school on their resumes as actual jobs.
I don't think there's any more BS in the IT industry than in any other industry. You just hear about it more often because you read /. :)
If you check out other web sites devoted to other idustries, you'll find just as much BS.
