you must be new. How happy we were to use PCI over ISA and/or EISA and/or MCA. But maybe Im just old school. Remember the 5MB seagate hard drive? It is now a doorstop. I still have some 8 inch floppies. My first job involved loading the tape to tape reels.
In US territories a ssn is often assigned to a family rather than to an individual. Then the children of the family come onto the mainland for college. A bit of a mess when a large puerto rican family has 8 kids that all go through the same college.
Thats a pretty good idea. I would still think the/. effect would be better suppressed if slashdot would mirror stories, especially if its running off of somebody's mother's DSL connection.
Still, this offering may finally make me a subscriber. And I do like the idea of a subscriber getting to post first. The types of people that would subscribe are probably not the same ones that post the goatse.cx links and such. I'd even go so far as to maybe allow a subscriber another +1 bonus to karma, or maybe allow a subscriber a higher karma cap, or even let a subscribers post get modded to +6... but what do I know...
Now I will get twice as many BUSINESS PROPOSALS from DR ZUNAGA MBASAWA in SOME RANDOM COUNTRY trying to get me to help him wire $75000000USD from his recently deceased father's offshore account.
All the spam I get is from asia, africa, and eastern europe.
Great that nevada passed the law, step in the right direction. But this would only apply if the spam or the company profiting from it came from nevada, right? I dont think the male enhancement people from belarus need worry about this law...
My company is small and we do not do any international business, or very little... I want to block anything that comes from outside the US, as all my spam seems to come from asia, nigeria, and eastern europe.
All I have to say is take nethack, add a bunch of new stuff, and make some kickass graphics for it, maybe using that quake2 engine there, or at least make the graphics as good as NWN. I dont know much linux but I did write some games waaaaay back in the day with C....
although 10 hours a week for no pay..... okay I guess Im not interested...
Osama bin laden most likely does not use outlook for important communications. Saddam Hussein most likely does not use POP for his troop movement orders. Kim Jong Il is probably not notified of the latest capabilities of his missiles via SMTP. For all the 40% of america haters on this site, GWBush and mr cheney also are not going to deploy any troops via Eudora.
Just like the commercials that show 14 year old pot smokers supporting terrorism, and the nuts that think SUVs contribute to terrorism moreso than Saddam... Some in the government are blowing certain issues way out of proportion. No self respecting criminal would ever do his nefarious work through e-mail. Monitoring e-mail for terrorism is like monitoring kazaa for legal mp3s. Its not gonna happen.
Thank 'whatever you believe in' that there are enough informed legislators to vote against such impotent wastes of money.
much like communism, your ideas and theories are correct, but look what actually happens when such ideals are played out. As you move the slider towards more government, the result is everyone from the richest to the poorest tends to suffer. The poorest in the US or the UK are still better off than the middle class in china or cuba. Capitalism allows me to take my business elsewhere. This is choice. Communism allows no choice, socialism severely limits it.
Your response was probably the most insightful and tempered response I have ever heard on the offtopic political discussions on slashdot.
I cant agree with your point though (except about the die hard flag wavers... I put them in the same category as the die hard sign carrying anti-war protesters)
But I still maintain that the private sector can do anything faster, cheaper, more effeciantly, and of a better quality than the government. Our tax funded schools suck. I have attended both private and public schools and the private ones are far superior. And they do it with less money per pupil than the public schools.
Supply and demand is going to happen regardless of what the government tries to do, and anytime the government does anything, they are messing with supply or demand of something. Schools would be better off if they were all private....
...not a troll, think about it: Read the article, substitute the word 'blog' with 'goods and services'... this article is a great argument why capitalism works and communism/socalism doesn't.
Capitalism allows for many freedoms of choice in selecting goods and services, while communism/socialism does not as you must get all your goods and services from only 1 source. (the government). No choice.
Anyways, I like the math and the graphs and such....
I am not so concerned about packing more into less at the moment as disk space (ide anyways) is soooo cheap... I would be much more interested in technologies that improve seek times or improve rpms without having to go to a big expensive raid array....
All of this computer hacking is making me thirsty. I think I'll have a tab.
-1 redundant

that whenever I read something off of the Register, the voice in my head has a british accent?
I don't see what the big problem is with ICANN though. Pay me 100,000 a year and I'll come up with something to sort all this out....

... no CPU, no RAM, no HD....
Slashdotted even before a 'does it run linux' troll....

Is there any way to do this?

Okay that probably sucks... my excuse is that I get high with the dell dude....

their website was also running on the NES... IIS on a 8 bit platform is a double plus ungood
Im already a 'cashless' person, screw the rest of society....
the computers can beat the top human kickboxers...
any 403 errors in the original space quest...
I think the same thing happens to the editors when they post new stories...
when they get it to be a webserver. Probably wasn't IIS... there would probably be a record for fastest slashdotting...
didnt someone do that to a c64?

Is windows ready for the masses?
This article seems to come about 10 years too late...
In other news, this new interweb thing just might take off....
