    my views on gun ownership aside,

    I do not understand what substance there is to your last post. You basically stated the position of the RIAA, and the position for DRM. After your post, I can see RIAA's point, thanks for the argument. In fact, my 12X CD burner is really like having 12 cd players, after all as an outlaw I am the only one that has access to the unrestricted recording technology
    That would be the technology that lets me burn non-drm cd's. Thanks for your argument.

    as far as gun ownership is concerned.... I own several. You own none. If a criminal reads this post, who is he more likely to mug?

    The only people they are keeping honest with this bull$hit are honest people. The only people they are annoying with this $hit are honest AOL users. Anybody with a /. account will say 'big deal, if I can hear it I can rip it, a hack will be out within hours, no problem etc.' I am not worried about this $hit for my sake, I am worried about this for the non-technical people, whom are 99% of the people I meet.

    DRM won't stop the 'criminals', it will merely annoy those who are honest.

    One nuclear power plant I work for has 2 networks. Internal and External. The 'External' network is accessable to the internet.
    The 'Internal' network:
    Unlisted dialups: 0.
    'Private leased lines': 0.

    Why? Because it is a matter of national security. Not good enough? Because if someone authorized such a decision they would go to jail, possibly for treason.

    Heck, just what I have already said probably violates my NDA in some way...

    Casinos and nuclear power plants. Anything that is remotely sensitive is kept off of any network that eventually attaches to the internet. Firewalls, DMZs, encryption, all this stuff is great, but if its really important, no outside connections are the only way to go.

    so, I agree with Japan on that. and on the ps2.

    cause I picked it up as soon as it came out, and learned it. At least as far as visual studio is concerned. Now I get projects for bid for no other reason then 'it uses .net'. Its optimized for XP. whatever. I don't get what it is or might be, I think the open source thing is better... but it's one more thing for the competition to learn, and I learned it first... works for me.

    I know people with inner ear implants must take several months to re-learn to hear. The implant produces sound patterns different than normal, but over a few months what is percieved as normal adjusts. Love him or hate him, this is what has recently happened to Rush Limbaugh...

    I love moddable games. EU2 and HOI from strategyfirst and paradox are the most moddable games I have ever seen. I have been playing games for 20 years and these would be my top 1 and 2. Coming in #3 would be nethack(rogue). These 3 would probably be the top 3 best games I have ever seen, as well as the top 3 most moddable. Coincedence?

    but I dont think you could ever get into legal trouble, iamnotalawyer but you could make good defense that wifi is unsecure (this thread might even help).

    Heres an idea though... when the visitors sign in to the front desk and get thier visitor pass, set up a system to assign their to-be-valid ip address and give it to them. when they leave disable it.

    your right to a degree, but wifi is inherently less secure than network jacks, you must admit. so if you dont have your wifi configured right, you would be better off running non microsoft anyways on the inside(attrition.org). but you are correct also.

    Attrition.org's stats page would seem to disagree with your statements. I know the mix of servers out there because, well, I have checked the os's of probably thousands of servers personally and nearly randomly. And I trust attrition's statistics more than your factless opinions. Read the link, learn something.

    well they sure embraced MS windows and thats a much bigger 'security concern' IMHO. This isn't just a microsoft flame, im serious. I would be much more comfortable running some linux distro with wifi than I would be with running MS over wifi. I feel the same about copper too I suppose.

    many private lobbying organizations do this. That is how YOU get YOUR voice heard. Both sides of the aisle do this, from NRA to AARP to the Sierra club. I don't think what they do is wrong any more than it is for a corporation. So there are ways for you joe public to get your voice heard.
    Instead, I have to read this thread full of knee jerk us/republican/bush/cheney bashing that gets modded up as insightful. Think a little before you bitch. Corporations do this, but guess what, you can too. I know bush doesnt have time to have dinner at my place to discuss my views on the environment, but if I were to join the Sierra club it would help, no? Okay, go ahead and mod me down now cause I didn't slam bush...
