I do belive you are indeed wrong. The title crawl begins with the the text 'Epsidoe IV - A New Hope". I can't testify to it being there in '77 however, as I was 4 years away from being born, but I've heard people talk about it being there in the origianl theatrical relase, and all the tapes made before george lucas went on his "special edition" craze also contain it. That and it's just common knowledge.

Perhaps thats why they did it in the first place. Everything the record companys have done to this point in the realm of online distrubution have been absolutley half-assed. They want all their online ventures to fail. If they don't, they belive that the the new distbution method will make them lose control over the content of the music. If that happens, they stay middle men like they are now, except this time, there will be no middle. It would be a wonderful day.

Now that I think about though, it's pretty hard to come up with well directed Sci-fi films. Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh.

Lucas is perfectly capable of displaying greatness, just not as a director. His style is rather generic(other then the super cheesy wipes, which I will admit are sometimes fun)and he has problems conveying drama or emotion outside of special effects shots. Where his greatness lies is in storytelling. Witness not only Star Wars but American Grafiti and Indiana Jones(even THX-1138 would have an interesting story, if it wasn't so incomprehinsible). In other words, I think Lucas is one of the worlds great story tellers, but as a director he started off average and went downhill from there.

did you just call Lucas a good director? I love star wars, but please, a good director he is not.

Lets go over the films he's directed shall we? "THX-1138", "American Grafiti", " A New Hope", "Howard the Duck", "The Phantom Menace", "Attack of the Clones". With the exception of American Graffiti and A New Hope(kinda), the man has never directed a good movie. "Clones" is okay as a star wars movie, but as a standalone film it's awful.

You forgot a great reference to a John Ford film in "A New Hope" BTW. When Luke comes back to the villa to find his home and his aunt and uncle dead and burnt to a crisp it's right out of "The Serchers"

The anlogy dosen't hold up anyway. 3d acceleration was clearly superior to software rendering, while digital filming and projection has visual drawbacks to celluloid. Some people think that digital film looks flat and washes out in high contrast sceens. Besides, It's alot easier to make 10 million people buy 3d accelrators then it is to make 5,000 theaters buy digital projectors, especialy when most directors, besides lucas of course, aren't interested becuase either they don't like the look, or if a film transfer is required, it WILL look like shit.

It's not a good judge. The reason being, is that chipset devolpors spend half their time optimising their hardware and their drivers for q3 so they'll get better reviews. Ati even cheated by lowering image quailty to get higher frame rates when quake3.exe was executed.

Solving this problem will take a sea-change of the general public's outlook on the situation.
