Tribes and Tribes 2 Terrain defined with Fractals.
That's why Starsiege/Tribes and Tribes 2 maps are able to have such large outdoor environments. File size of each map is relatively small because the entire terrain is defined by a single fractal equation.
Really! There was no official software renderer for UT2003. A 3rd party, w/ the blessing of Epic, did come out with one. Go to http://unreal.epicgames.com and scroll down to the May 19, 2003 news post.
There will be a software renderer built into UT2004. This means you don't need a 3D capable video card installed to play UT2004. It does help if you have beefy CPU if you use this mode, since that will be doing all the work. It isn't pretty, but at least you can play.
Now I can use the Atari paddles for use with KaBoom! and other paddle games. Wooty woot. My Mame joystick was more than adequate for the Joystick games, but the spinner was no good for KaBoom! I scored over 23000 with my 18 year old reflexes, I wonder what my 40 year old reflexes will do?
Yeah, I agree, the Atari joysticks were no good. That's why I bought those a red ball Wico joysticks. I am looking forward to using those again also.
I think he is probably talking about quick weekend jaunts. I take weekend trips to the big city once or twice a month also. Something like this desktop replacement would be very handy. Too bad it uses Prescotts.
I have a Shuttle XPC plus an LCD monitor. All of this plus the accessories fits into a suit case with wheels. This is still a pain to pack and to truck around. A notebook (even if it weighs 16 lbs.) would be much easier.
The Go5700 is not lousy video. If it is the "desktop replacement" version of this chip, it is the best that is out there right now in the mobile market... including the ATi 9700 mobility.
Yes, this would be excellent for LAN parties... where you are lugging it only short distances. This is much easier to handle compared to desktop. I do wish they could engineer a way to put in desktop video instead mobile video.
The battery is basically an UPS. A vast majority of the LAN parties I go to trip a breaker some where along the line.
If they do a Commercial Desert Combat game, I request that they make the helis more relistic to fly. If they use the Battlefield:Vietnam engine, they probably will be.
Why do I think you are wrong. Half-life 1 was off of the Quake engine, some Quake 2 was also thrown in. Most of the Half-life 2 engine (called Source) is written primarily by Valve. They did license out for some parts of the engine. For instance, they are using portions of the Havok physics engine.
I remember someone from ID saying that the DOOM 3 multiplayer was going to be peer to peer instead of client/server. Is that still the case? Did I hear that wrong?
Thanks
DoD 1.1 beta is already out for Steam. The only way to play DoD 1.0 is through WON.
You can still play CS 1.5 through WON. 1.6 is what is on Steam.
For those that don't know, Steam is a new content distribution system developed by Valve. You will have the option of purchasing, then downloading Valve games through Steam. I am guessing the eventual goal is to bypass brick and mortar distribution and to get monthly subscription money flow (good luck guys).
Another note, Steam has its own authoriziation protocal for logging on and playing online. This is what differentiates it from WON. I personally have 2 seperate installs of Half-life... One for Steam and One for WON.
There are still old HP systems running the database and application servers. That is part of the reason. These systems will be replaced shortly as well with x86 architecture. Hopefully with up to date and better optimized database software.
Assuming it is the application I am thinking of... it was more like 5 minutes to start up, not 60 seconds. Yes, the HP systems were ancient (relatively).
Picking nits, are we?
The bots haven't been released yet... later today.
It'll be awhile... read Carmacks blog... http://www.armadilloaerospace.com/n.x/johnc/Recent %20Updates
Will the DNA-drivers softmod my ATi 9500 to a 9700? Do the omega drivers?
I wonder if Tom thinks the vendors will start to give him $$$ if he does a 0-day reviews?
How long ago was this? What model was it? The M68xx series of e:machines is very capable. I am running Doom 3 quite well on my M8605.
Version mismatch? Maybe the server is running an older version. How does it work just running single player?
Yeah, anyway to invert the mouse. I can't play it in the present config...

MUST PLAY KABOOM!!
The ROMs are out there, it's just a matter of getting them leaked.

Since when did stolen source code become conclusive proof.

Blame away. The skin is pretty darn thick after years of abuse.
