Picto-chat? Honestly Nintendo, if you are close enough to picto chat you are close enough to chat for real. That is more fun.
(Mark in class on DS): Hey Sarah... you goin' 2 tha mall on Frday ?
(Sarah in class on DS): Yeah, U?
(Mark in class on DS): Dunno, what'd you get for #4?
I tried Camino a couple of months ago and found it to be a very solid Mozilla based browser. It's got some quirks but what browser doesn't. I prefer Safari but Camino does make a nice runner up.
I'd never used Firefox until just now and I must say on OS X this really doesn't feel like much of a browser. The new default theme seems to have not made it into this release for the Mac so we're still looking at some pretty shabby icons. I went to the official themes page to try out another theme and upon clicking "install this theme" I was prompted to install a new theme, presented with what I assume is the theme manager window, and then given no further options. The default theme is the only one available.
Maybe I'm just spoiled but in OS X we really do expect our applications to "just work". Safari is elegant, fast, and just works. It's been a long time since I've used Windows and using Firefox was a painfull reminder of how sloppy an application can feel. No offense to the developers. I know this project is worthwhile and I trully wish it the best. I just feel that if you really want to create the next "killer browser" you're going to need to see how it feels to use something that "just works" and emulate that.
Came off a little differently than intended there. I didn't mean to condemn the use of digital toys or somehow say that spinning records makes you a better DJ.
The point is that technology hasn't yet "caught up" with traditional DJ equipment in the way of ease of use and control.
When you spin records you want complete, and I mean complete, control over what's going on. You want to be able to adjust pitch speed quickly by simply touching the side of the turntable platter with varrying degrees of pressure before you actually move the slider. With most of these digital gadgets things like this aren't possible. FinalScratch is the closest thing and it really doesn't do the job properly (often sluggish response or even misreading needle placement all together).
Hell man, I'm in a band and I do most of my personal recording through an M-Audio Firewire 410 into a Powerbook using Cubase. Technology is my friend. I just wish some of these companies tinkering with the idea of digital mixing would consider more than just the basement DJ.
Never said toys were bad. More toys the better. It is about time they gave professional level mixing the same attention they do professional level production though.
Stanton created a package called Final Scratch a couple of years ago that basically lets you use your existing turntables to mix digital files (mp3, ogg, etc..).
Some said it would revolutionize the DJ market and eventually render vinyl records obsolete. It did not.
You'll find that the high majority of DJs still prefer to use a pair of Technics SL1200s and a mixer. There's a level of control when handling the analog source (records) directly you just don't get with digital gadgets. Not to mention a crate full of vinyl records looks a hell of a lot cooler than a folder full of mp3s.
Digital DJ devices are cute and usefull to some, but to the professional / serious amateur DJ they just don't make the grade.
While the majority of Kinko's stores do reside in the U.S. there are Kinko's stores in other countries too. China, Korea, Japan, UK, Netherlands, and Australia are a couple of the other countries that come to mind.
Kinko's is just a copy shop that happens to have publically accessible computer terminals.
I'm a manager at Kinko's.
You really would be shocked to see the kind of stuff people leave behind on the hard disks and in the copy machines. At least a dozen I.D. cards, birth certificates, credit cards, confidential company files, etc.. are left every day.
Just yesterday a customer came in and asked if we'd found her credit card. She said she'd left it in the copy machine a week ago and just noticed it gone. We couldn't find it and told her she'd probably wanna go ahead and cancel the damn thing. She replied, "nahh... too much trouble.. it'll turn up someplace".
I think it's catching on here in the U.S.
My girlfriend and I went to the new Sony movie theater in Georgetown a couple weeks back and they had 3 people walking around outside with the very same contraption attached to their heads displaying movie trailers.
Most passerbys just pointed and giggled but there were a few people who actually stopped to watch the trailers.
I can't imagine how embarrasing it must be to have some guy standing 2 feet in front of you staring at the screen on top of your head. God awful job.
And you know, if he wants to maintain some consistency with the first two, he wouldn't use an actor at all for Chewbacca, just some fidgety CGI model.
Yeah, and he could then give Chewbacca wings and lasers that shoot from his eye sockets. I mean fuck it, if R2-D2 can fly all of a sudden he might as well go all out with Chewy.
Heh, Last Starfighter is a great movie.
Bit of trivia: The Last Starfighter was the directorial debut of Nick Castle who's previous film experience includes playing Michael Myers in John Carpenter's Halloween and playing an alien in Carpenter's Dark Star
Haha, yep. The older brother is playing Zaxxon in the living room when the younger brother comes in after eating the shaving cream. The funniest thing about The Stuff is the utterly embarrasing cameos. I'm sure Paul Sorvino (racist malitia leader) and Danny Aiello (man licked to death by "stuffy dog") would rather the film vanish from existance.
The Stuff also has some of the best lines of any film.
"how you gonna kill somethin' that's insiiiiiiide you" - Michael "Moe Rutheford" Moriarty
The Explorers Great movie made in 1985 starring River Pheonix and Ethan Hawke about a couple of kids who figure out (through one of their dreams) how to travel to space in a homemade spaceship and visit aliens.
Ice Pirates Really funky space adventure film starring Robert Urich. Used to come on HBO almost daily in the mid-eighties. Great flick.
Cloack and Dagger Really neat spy movie starring Dabney Coleman and Henry Thomas (from E.T.). I'm sure plenty of people have seen this gem of a movie but I'll be damned if I can find any amongst my group of friends.
The Stuff A movie about killer yogurt. If that doesn't make for great stuff (har har) nothing does.
I bought the system on Sunday (launch date) with Luigi's Mansion and Rogue Leader. Luigi's Mansion seems to work fine, Rogue Leader on the other hand has issues. At the Battle of Hoth after taking down the AT-ATs the game will lock-up and this high pitched screech comes out of my speakers. I've exchanged the game and still I can't get rid of this problem. I love the Gamecube to death so far and I really hope this is something that can be fixed by exchanging my system for a new one once they're available again.

Informative???
You kids need help.

It's not like buying a PS2 to play zelda
I should hope not, buying a PS2 to play Zelda is like buying a... well... mac to run Outlook.
