I have an HTC Flyer and it is wonderfull. If you have classes where most of the material is in PDF's which you can annotate its probably the best way to learn. I have and it really really works. Sadly most classes dont lend themselves to just PDF annotation.
The Flyer small and cheap but I think the Lenovo Tegra 2 tablet and the Samsung Galaxy Note tablets are probably superior.
Why would they have to pipe all the water in? You can just as well channel it through the dome? Even channel it throught at night.
What about insects and pollinators? They live fine in greenhouses. Why shouldnt they live in a dome. And who cares about migrating birds for such a small area?
I know a lot of competent engineers who are still repair men. I used to be one years ago and the higher up the pecking order I get, the more incompetency I see around me. I loved it and prefer the company I kept. The only reason I quit was that it was under appreciated.
I'm a n00b programmer but a decent technician. Head first books were the best for me when starting programming. Its not going to be the best for most slashdotters but for taking your first steps with a programming language its by far the best.
Present day whaling by Japan and Norway is from plentyfull stocks and government oversight.
Right whales are actually endangered and in the US by shipping.
Guess who Greenpeace is going after.
A 50ms latency (although its closer to 30ms) makes all the difference in the world. At least that is what the CCP developers told me when I asked. I lived with one (Platonic) for months spent days on end with them.
CCP is also far from being the only high tech company in Iceland. The parent should be modded down because its misleading where it isnt wrong.
Lenovo has zero support for Linux just like everyone else. This article smacks of xenophobia.
The latest ThinkPads from Lenovo are actually superior to the IBM ThinkPads in quality. The new Z series is a bit weird for a ThinkPad (silly widescreen, firewire etc.) but the X60 and T60 series are superior in build quality the older T40-T43. I know because I take them apart every working day. The T60 is a bit more plain and plastic looking than its predecessors, but it has a much stronger build and a magnesium alloy roll cage under the hood, which also drains water exceptionally well.
For Linux on ThinkPads, go to www.thinkwiki.org.
Lenovo is still making ThinkPads engineered by IBM and the quality hasnt changed a bit. The keyboards are still made by the same suppliers and nothing has changed yet. As someone who works 9 hours a day fixing IBM laptops for a reseller, I can say that things are looking up. The new T/X60 computers look awesome and relatively problem free (havent had any experience with them yet, a good sign) and Z60 is more or less problem free and has many features IBM has starved homeusers of (windows button, firewire etc.).
The whole ThinkVantage package, Image UltraBuilder + LANDesk is coming along faster and faster and the whole commitee mentality seems to be more or less gone.
My prefence for IBM laptops is reinforced every time I open up lappy's from other manufacturers.
And have been for the last few thousand years from what I gather. Heard a localglacier expert talk about it on the radio a few years ago (here in Iceland). Not that I dont think global warming is a danger.
Memory speed hasnt been holding technology back. Memory speed isnt a bottleneck at all. Lack of memory can be, and at the price of Rambus memory they were doing their best to keep technology out of the hands of the average buyer.
Other things like, CPU heat, an aging HD technology and inherent limitations to optical media is what hamper computers the most.
For companies like IBM/Lenovo, Dell, HP & Fujitsu it is a bit absurd not to have a Linux setup on hand for all their computer builds. Most of them have been making the same computers with literally no changes for a couple of years now. A SATA driver there, a wifi driver here, a Linux image is no hassle to build once and update every couple of years.
The support cost is non existant. Most of them dont have Linux support anyway for non servers.
On the other hand Linux support is a major selling point. IT managers are more often than not happy to hear how easy it is to install Linux on the computers in question, and they are influential in the decision process and it tends to tilt the balance when every penny counts in this cut-throat business.
My manager has extensive knowledge on how to fix typewriters, I kid you not!
He urges me not to worry about customers. He meets up with troublesome customers and squares things - to the extent of not accepting business with them because "They are just not worth the hassle". He worries that Im taking work too seriously. He is one of the reasons I look forward to going to work every morning.
My manager has extensive knowledge on a lot more than just how to fix typewriters, I kid you not!
MS does own a very decent antivirus solution. They recently bought RAV antivirus of Romania. Its very good at finding viruses, especially inside compressed archives. Its sloppy at cleaning files and does an impressive job at wrecking computers by deleting files it cant heal.
John_Allen_Mohammed.
they might as well sentence these guys to a lifetime of Icelandic Living, the best they can do.
Iceland is consistently in the top 5 countries "to live in" lists by the UN. Iceland also scores very well in happiness questionaires (Gallup). Now with global warming, the only real Icelandic defect is disappearing.
The cause of the raid is that both major ISP's in Iceland are also television-station-owners, they are ISPs and Copyright sellers. Its a bad situation for filesharers.
What is working for Icelandic filesharers is the law. It is NOT against the law to download copyrighted media. It only illegal to share it.
The drastic drop in traffic is because the DC hubs that most all filesharing Icelanders connected to closed down as the news broke out. Icelanders are very computer literate and this is going to be a short term effect only. As soon as we as a nation can start syphoning of everyone else without ever sharing anything we in the clear.
Philips 737 is half as expensive as anything KISS makes and plays DIVX 3.11 and up and XVID. Other manufacturers are coming out with similar products. KISS is probably using more expensive PC components and will loose its niche.
I've always bought Intel for myself. A friend is a graphics gimp. He does all his work on Maya and such programs. He just lost his job but had some money to burn.
Out we went and bought a Tyan Tiger and a couple of XP's 1700. Its fast and stable. We overclocked it and he installs warez and bloatware on to it all day. It will lock up in Counterstrike every few hours (of playing) but not as often as my old Intel BX and I only install quality software. Not what I expected really. Other than that it is completely stable for him and he renders all night, sometimes.
All in all it looks very stable and inexpensive. I'm waiting for the ABIT MPX. I feel I owe it to ABIT to buy their boards after having my old BH6 for the last 3 years.
I'd like a quantifiable stability test. Bang it around, install Realmedia Software, unplug devices while running, install Savage S3, rip heatsinks of, run Win98' etc. etc.

When asked about what he used the internet for recently, the mayor of Reykjavik (Iceland) Jon Gnarr said he mostly used it for porn. Two feminazis got mad but no one noticed. http://whatson.is/icelandreview/daily_news/?cat_id=16567&ew_0_a_id=367354 Different standards.
Whats murky about the ownership of Huawei? They seem to answer the question when asked. Here's a headline: "Xenophobe media is xenophobic".
Hydro is better than Coal at providing for swinging demand. Hydro just turns the tap to a turbine and stores the energy (unless there's and overflow).

CCP's business is extremely vulerable to latency. Iceland doesnt offer good latency. It offers cheap and environmentally sound electricity.

The Intel/Skype deal happened after the founders sold and left the company I think.

Im still waiting for the in-developement Fatal1ty officemouse. They say it will improve chart generationtimes by up to 10%.
