It would be nice if the laundry machines could IM me to tell me its done. It would also be nice if the dryer was smart enough to sense when clothes actually got dry so I wouldn't have to keep checking them.
What if we just colonized with robots first, until we figured out how to make air and food there? Ok, that's too simplistic, but you get the general idea.
...and you have a monopoly on hotels and are trying to expand into other areas of hospitality, such as restaurants, nightclubs, cafes, and you wouldn't mind owning the highways, airlines, buses, trains, and you have a lot of security and stability problems...

When a iPaq can run STUN Runner via MAME at full speed, that will be when I get one.

I would pay big bucks for a port of Zero Wing to GBA.
The Genesis original is already portable, with the Nomad.

A portable Sega CD would be interesting though, this guy has some of the CD logistics already worked out. Oh, wait, I guess the CDX thing was pretty close - no screen though.
Also, I don't know if this guy added a 2nd player port, but if he did, you could just plug in a 2nd controller, no need for a link cable, a second GBA or a second cart. You could even play 5-player Bomberman on it.
Yeah, but there's nothing like the real thing. Can't exactly whip out the laptop when you're waiting in line at South Station (BOS-MA) to buy a T-pass (www.mbta.com).
i live in a very remote area of western new mexico. the only local radio is in navajo. you can get one or two bubble gum stations from gallup. before primestar, i had to listen to the bbc on s/w for news.
Educated people that live in the middle of nowhere, sounds like a huge market!
Seriously, I can see there's a need, but will it be enough to support the industry?
The canned food link reminds me of the time I went shopping at the Super 88 Asian food store in Boston and saw for sale packages of "Cock testicles" in the meat section. I didn't pick them up to see if there was a recipe on them, or if satisfaction was guaranteed.
At least you can get a discount card for them:

I'm sure eventually some high-stakes gaming competition will make it on a ESPN channel if it hasn't already. The real milestone will be when it makes SportsCenter. I remember seeing Sumo highlights on SC before, so why not CPL?
What about putting the case on a lazy susan, that way you can just spin the case around to mess around with the back and spin it around again to put in a CD etc. You might need longer cables, though, and be careful for the soy sauce. Hm, does anyone make a round case?
Isn't "special tinkering" why we're all here at/.?
Why bash a hack because you think its too hard?
Also, I may not be like most/. readers since I do not have a home LAN, a Linux server, or a broadband connection at home.
Out of curiosity why would your grandmother need to play DreamCast? Typically most 70+ females tend to stay away from video games. Grandma's drive at like 10 miles per hour. Could you imagine her trying to play Crazy Taxi? It would be a friggin nightmare!
With simple to program hardware, the GameCube devs will be able to write low-level code to really eke performance out of the system. I wonder if xbox programmers will be able to do the same, or if they will be restricted by the (godawful IMHO) directx apis.
Nothing technical should restrict xbox programmers from bypassing DirectX APIs, but for ported games, they'll probably use all the APIs they can access.
I agree that the games and not the technical specificals are what will make a game console succeed or not. But Anandtech and similar harware sites are not about whether or not a game console succeeds financially. They are about examining hardware, more or less, critically. Go to other sites, such as IGN, GameSpot, for info about games.
I think it is different. I would say a relavitely unsecure wireless network is more like you're in your home with the door closed, but you haven't locked the door. You still have an expectation of privacy inside your home, even if it is easy for someone to break into it.

The online Medieval & Classical Library (http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/OMACL/) has Njal's Saga and some of the other Icelandic Sagas.

Hopefully hackers can come up with something similar to the Halo network project.
If Microsoft is a monopoly such that users do not have a meaningful choice, their policies may affect Your Rights Online.

I like getting the AOL discs now since they're sending them out in DVD style cases. I need to replace my broken ones.

Why not think of it as the more technical the car is, the more stuff there is to hack on?

Well, maybe you can take solace in the fact that in general writers get paid very little.
Don't you think they should? You don't need players having heart attacks from taking too many ephedrine pills before a match.
