"I also think if it would be possible to implant such bacteria for additional computational power in human brains -- just in case we have to upgrade them."

Gives new meaning to the term shit for brains I guess.

  2. GUI for Linux DVR on Build Your Own Linux PVR · · Score: 1

This guy has already been working on something similar and already has quite a nice gui. He even got an article in Popular Science a few months back. Seems to have done a much better job too IMO.

  5. Productive for Tourism on PayPal Founder Wants To Launch Satellites · · Score: 1

Could be not necessarily productive in a typical space exploration sense, but it does pave the way somewhat for Space tourism. We've been talking talking about lunar colonies and space vacations for some time now. Hell if you have rich people interested and willling to spend their cash, why not?

What if it's not fast enough? I think you may have just pointed out the ineffectiveness of a antiprojectile system if it isn't fast enough. A terrorist could deliver a biological/chemical weapon payload, that would turn our defense, into offense from the enemy.

  10. What about terrorists? on Pipeline Mass Transit? · · Score: 1
    From the Faq:

"Statistically, the death rate due to terrorism is much lower than deaths caused by operator error, weather, and mechanical failures."

Ouch, given how we were on code orange or whatever for all those months in this post 9-11 world, just how easy is it for the braindead slob, reliance on solar power, or shoddy equipment to screw us over?

  17. Re:Points on The Case for the Empire · · Score: 1

Bull Fucking Shit George Washington may not have been a terrorist, but to call him a freedom fighter is not exactly accurate either. Remember why the Revolutionary war was started. A group of aristocratic white men didn't want to pay their taxes. They used guerilla warfare(hid in trees, wait till u see the whites of their eyes, etc)and fought unfairly against the British, who using conventional warfare(march single file in a straight line) were slaughtered. Sounds like terrorism to me.

  20. Happens with phone copper too on PCs Pilfered, Paralyzing Populace · · Score: 3, Interesting

Similarly, another problem in 3rd world countries that are trying to develop any kind of widespread phone infrastructure, is that the actual copper itself is pulled out of the ground and stolen! This is one of the reasons India for example, is moving forward with satellite technology instead, as this practice tends to be commonplace and fairly frustrating.
