    "implemented smart steps"

With the huge pile of body scanners sitting unused in warehouses thanks to DHS's wild (and illegal) binge on ineffective and invasive scanning technology, I have a hard time with their using the phrase "smart steps". In fact it's so bad, it almost seems like an inside joke. Not funny. And Janet? You make me sick

True, but I would argue that using a keyboard on a tablet is somewhat like using a touchscreen on Windows 7. It will work, but it wasn't designed to be used that way and it doesn't work all that great.

The laptop was the evolution of the desktop into a more broadly useful form factor.

The smartphone, and the pad device are precisely the same thing - just other points on the spectrum, not a whole different genus of computer.

I disagree. The evolution from PC -> tablet is at least as profound as the evolution from mainframe -> minicomputer -> PC. Tablets and smartphones are really more of media consumption devices, which go to great ends to de-emphasize composition of anything greater than a photo, SMS or tweet. Laptops were really just a mobility improvement, where tablets are an entirely different mode of usage.

That is a truly misguided statement. Here's a better one:

"Consumers use touch screens. Producers use keyboards."

Good luck using a tablet for tasks such as Photoshop or Blender. Heck, even using a tablet to type out a proper letter could be classified as cruel and inhumane.

There is little doubt in my mind that Comcast also sabotages Netflix to my home. Broken connections are practically non-existent on my cable modem. When the service is running I very rarely have any issues. However, fire up Netflix at night and connections are routinely lost 5 minutes into the show. Traditional downloading will simultaneously be fast as ever. Netflix has a lot of enemies. I mourn for their future loss to the megaton-hammer we know as "Fscking Comcast"

Is anyone else getting real tired of companies purposely crippling their high end products in order to sell them for less money? It's like openly broadcasting that their cards cost way too much to begin with.

It's a question of tolerances. The chips that come out of the fab are not 100% perfect. The designs are amazingly complex, and they usually contain some defects in the manufacturing process. If they don't meet the high-end specs, maybe they can disable the broken cores, relabel it as a mid-range chip, and sell for less money. It allows the yield to be higher and it lowers the price for ALL of the products.
