With the huge pile of body scanners sitting unused in warehouses thanks to DHS's wild (and illegal) binge on ineffective and invasive scanning technology, I have a hard time with their using the phrase "smart steps". In fact it's so bad, it almost seems like an inside joke. Not funny. And Janet? You make me sick
True, but I would argue that using a keyboard on a tablet is somewhat like using a touchscreen on Windows 7. It will work, but it wasn't designed to be used that way and it doesn't work all that great.
The laptop was the evolution of the desktop into a more broadly useful form factor.
The smartphone, and the pad device are precisely the same thing - just other points on the spectrum, not a whole different genus of computer.
I disagree. The evolution from PC -> tablet is at least as profound as the evolution from mainframe -> minicomputer -> PC. Tablets and smartphones are really more of media consumption devices, which go to great ends to de-emphasize composition of anything greater than a photo, SMS or tweet. Laptops were really just a mobility improvement, where tablets are an entirely different mode of usage.
That is a truly misguided statement. Here's a better one:
"Consumers use touch screens. Producers use keyboards."
Good luck using a tablet for tasks such as Photoshop or Blender. Heck, even using a tablet to type out a proper letter could be classified as cruel and inhumane.
The era of the PC is not over... only the era of the PC as an entertainment device.
A government of liars cannot be trusted. Whether the story is actually FUD or not doesn't really matter. We must greet every bit of information with skepticism... assume every story is FUD. The only thing we know for sure is that we don't know the whole truth.
There is little doubt in my mind that Comcast also sabotages Netflix to my home. Broken connections are practically non-existent on my cable modem. When the service is running I very rarely have any issues. However, fire up Netflix at night and connections are routinely lost 5 minutes into the show. Traditional downloading will simultaneously be fast as ever. Netflix has a lot of enemies. I mourn for their future loss to the megaton-hammer we know as "Fscking Comcast"
$200K? That's crazy talk. Maybe in San Francisco but not back East... Computer engineer working on Aerospace control system software: less than half of that. Much less than half.
I thought that as well. However as far as the Feds are concerned he is an admitted criminal, so they don't really have to answer to the media when he disappears.
These kinds of things always strike me as a little annoying, because the person asking usually has already made up their mind, and will structure the rules to ensure there is no possible way to answer their question. Much like the old (and foolish) "no proof of evolution" argument, you just can't win even if you should, so why play?
I have a right to never be compelled to testify against myself. I would like to keep that right, thank you very much. I don't care if the cops have to work harder to find external proof of a crime. In fact, I like it that way.
There is nothing in the article that indicates caste has anything to do with it. Most of the discussion suggested that the cause may have been to "bump" almost-passing grades to passing grades (and presumably other achievement tiers as well).
Am I supposed to know what they are talking about here? Where is this going? Why? What is a bottom head used for? Vogtle Unit 3?? I feel like Lord Helmet in Spaceballs shouting "WHO??" in confusion just before his mask falls.
Intelligence? I think you mean curiosity. Let's be honest. If she had thought it through a little bit more, this "experiment" wouldn't have landed her in hot water. Curiosity is still a very good thing, though.
Is anyone else getting real tired of companies purposely crippling their high end products in order to sell them for less money? It's like openly broadcasting that their cards cost way too much to begin with.
It's a question of tolerances. The chips that come out of the fab are not 100% perfect. The designs are amazingly complex, and they usually contain some defects in the manufacturing process. If they don't meet the high-end specs, maybe they can disable the broken cores, relabel it as a mid-range chip, and sell for less money. It allows the yield to be higher and it lowers the price for ALL of the products.
"implemented smart steps"

Alternative to Apple's ebooks? They're called "books"
Oh please. At least half of them are in Java!

Am I the only one that notices how crazy that sounds?
or you just immediately convert it back to dollars, foo
They will probably be a fixture at car shows for all time, and in Korean gadget reveals, but they seem so out of place at a software conference.

Step 1: Make pointless and annoying request
Step 2: Watch as security problem is created in the fallout
Step 3: Be smug
... Episode I? ... Hangover 3? ... Fast Five? ... Twilight 4? ... Star Trek Generations? ... Expendables 2?
etc.
How on earth is this a troll? I'm giving an account of my view from the trenches. sheesh

What good is a defense fund to an admitted criminal? If they catch him, he will go to federal prison.
I thought that as well. However as far as the Feds are concerned he is an admitted criminal, so they don't really have to answer to the media when he disappears.
That only makes a difference if said government is no longer in power
Your own words CAN be used to convict you.

Darn it, where are my mod points?
+1
