Yeah, that last sentence seemed tacked on. Like the someone wanted a flamewar on BitKeeper and found a submission that he new was going to be aproved, and appended at the last minute.
It's not really a language but it does allow the programmer to say that sections of code could be parallelized and it will handle the number of threads, the forking, dividing up the work, and joinning of the threads. The programmer still has to make sure that the code is really parallelizable.
You don't need to syncronize access to common data if all you are doing is reading it, so processes don't win there.
If you want to have the processess commuticate, all you do is hand off the syncronization to the OS, which at best would be like having threads.
I hope so.
I think all the old cast/crew should join together and start another channel. Their fan base is fairly loyal, so it shouldn't take long to get back to where they were.
Most games don't hit critical mass until it's too late to do anything to the code (other then mods). The only place I see Open Source games as a effective option is in massively multiplayer games. They tend to focus on security and go through an iterative process more then your average game, which is the strong sute of Open Source.
Modern consoles have to have some software independent of the game. Checking disk for cd-audio/DVD-video, Memory (card or harddrive) has to be interactive with. Perhapse not a full blown OS, but similar to what DOS seemed to be.
I don't believe that the author was suggesting a less verbose, but a more descrpitive explanation of the error. An discription of "Divice could not be removed because divice is in use. Make sure no there are no open files and try again." or "Divice could not be removed because you do not have sufficent privileges." are more of what the author was suggesting. I don't think that a error stating "Error occured at 0x520F3BC0 0C 15 36 2B 3A 24 8F..." being useful to anyone.
Yeah, the real problem is how X selects the text. I like the middle click for pasting though, I haven't had a problem of dumping everything in a terminal window, but apparently people have this problem. I would like to see it set up so this way, it's all mouse for you people who hate using the keyboard, but doesn't suffer from the above problems as well. Copying 1. you highlight the text 2. middle single-click Pasting 1. move cursor into position 2. middle double-click
You could have text selected and double-click and replace the text (I assume that a double-click doesn't generate two single-clicks).
Windows NT-based operating systems listen on so many ports, and are designed so wide open, because they are meant to sit inside a secured corporate network.
Microsoft seems to only design systems that are ment to be 'inside a secured corporate network.' X-Box live also seems to be designed for a secured network. I don't know if they have ever tried to design a system, that would work, in an unsecure environment.

3kbps? Not too many people on the network?
Since when did SCO take the RIAA approach of suing customers?
SCO has customers? Their business model is to sue people for money. At least the RIAA is selling something we can boycott.
Well, what if the user pushes the power button on the case, or hits the computer with a large hammer? If someone can physicly touch the system, isn't it safe to assume that the he/she is the system admin?
What you are describing is similar to the Hisenberg Uncertainty Principle. It states that you can't be 100% positive with a objects position and momentum at the same time. You either know it's position exactly, it's momentum exactly, or about where it is and somewhat how fast it's going.
there's the virtual world and the *physical* world. The term Real World is too narrow.
If you talk to someone in a virtual world you are really talking to them (although "chat" maybe a better word for it). Just what's so not real about the virtual world that the physical one is so much more real? press c, crouch in the virtual world. Bend legs, crouch in the physical world.
If you have multiple torrents open, and you have your upstream bandwidth capped, the torrents must fight for that bandwidth.
Yeah, that last sentence seemed tacked on. Like the someone wanted a flamewar on BitKeeper and found a submission that he new was going to be aproved, and appended at the last minute.
because that's what DST does.

So, you think people without computer science degrees are incapable of choosing the right algorithm, so they should optimize their code instead?

Even more history
Hello, the websites are still up. You can't get the e-mail if you don't have the internet.

How about the person getting tap pays? They're the one the police are investigating.

Then why not have the first worm have the time-based self-destruct. There is really no need for two in the scenario you describe.
Since the largest variable/folder/file must be upto 4 letters long how about flav.

They should release things like this on a P2P network. Then the download would have sped up. ;)
