The worst reviewers around have GOT to be Lisa Schwatrzbaum and Owen Gleiberman in Entertainment Weekly. They are such "film snobs" - you can predict what movies they will like and which they'll pan. They love all movies you're "supposed" to love that others just aren't deep enough to get (Evil Dead, Pitch Black, Rushmore) and hate basically anything mainstream.
Don't get me wrong, I like those 3 movies too, but I don't like everything that comes to Independent Movie Theatres and stuff.
According to this story from IGN, Nintento sales have quadrupled and market share has doubled. From the article:
GameCube now runs a 'strong second' to PlayStation 2 in monthly sales, at least based on October sell-through data." It doubled its previous 19 percent [marketshare] piece of the pie to 37 percent. Combined with sales of Game Boy Advance SP -- it accounts for 'half of all system sales in 2003.
Our star is called "The Sun," and our biggest natural satellite is called "The Moon."
Yes, yes... it seems very earth-centric, and other planets/systems have their own moons and suns, but there is only one Sun and Moon. (there may be many gods in mythology and religion, but when you write it with a capital G you know who someone is talking about).
$500 for a 19" monitor? PLEASE tell me that you therefore built this machine in like 1999 or something!
a) For my machine, I put a "wanted" ad in craigslist and got a fine 19" CRT for $50.
b) If it's a flat-panel monitor, why do that? MAME/Arcade games are SUPPOSED to have poor-quality screens. In fact, that's why many people prefer to use actual arcade monitors instead of PC monitors - monitors look TOO good!
In fact, there are even emulators to "simulate" the lines that go across old games for your monitor to make it look like good-ol-1986 crapiness:)
Such 100% no-question-about-it BORING stories like this make it, and my MegaMan Collection and other stories get rejected.
I was wondering, is there (seriously) like some sort of filter that they don't even look at stories from users whose id is >10,000 or something, or who doesn't have like 2,000 karma points?
Take a look at their lineup of games this holiday- I think i[Xbox] is the strongest of the 3 consoles by far
Are you nuts? Gamecube has (recent thru end-of-year):
Viewtiful Joe Mario Kart Kirby's Air Ride Zelda Collection (may very well end up being stand-alone) Star Wars: Rebel Strike III F-Zero GX Mario Golf Mario Party 5 Billy Hatcher & the Giant Egg
Note that I did NOT include any multiplatform games (Deus Ex 2, Half-Life 2, KOTOR - all on PC as well)
You can't have Nintendo making money off of Mega Man or the folks at Capcom will get very angry.
Speaking of which, pick up the Mega Man 20th Anniversary disc for Gamecube this january! I think it's Mega Man 1-8 and Mega Man X 1-6 or something, all on one disc!
You want a collection of 18 classic NES games (Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros, Punch-Out, Zelda, Ice Climbers, etc), PLUS a great current generation game all in one disc? Two words...
My hunch: There will be a spike, and Xbox and Gamecube will be $149 by mid november.
At my local Target, Gamecubes are now SOLD OUT. At Gamestop, they are selling more then they were. and the Wal-Mart used to have a HUGE stack of gamecubes and they too are sold out.
I think $99.99 is the golden price. It sounds SO affordable. Double-digits for the latest generation console. (Yes, it's $100, but $99.99 has the double-digit psychological edge)
George Bush signed this bill into law, so Slashdot users are torn, between their blind anti-Bush sentiment and their anti-telemarketer sentiment. Hmmm....
For the record, I'm not a republican. I'm from New York and voted, very happily I might add, for Hillary Clinton. I just find blind partisianship (either side) awful, and abundant here on/.
It might be a stupid question, and probably the answer is some legal "resale" law, but if everyone sells ps2s for $250 and you buy them for $255, why not just go down the street and buy your ps2s for $250 yourself (at some tax-free province/state like America's Delaware)? That way, even if you still sell them for $250, you'll lose $5 less.
Actually, if you bought it down the street, you could now sell yours for $245. You'll be losing the same $5 you were before, but now you'll have the best price in town, so you'll sell much better.
Wait a second... a few days ago, Gamespot said that Mortal Kombat was one of the most overrated games of all time.
Now it says that the Goro fight in MK is among the 10 best boss-fights in history? (#9)
So, for a game that seemingly has better boss-fights that any other game in history minus the other 8, it would not be a stretch to say this game therefore DESVERED its high praise.
So which is it? Most overrated or close-to best fight ever?
It seems that Gamespot is getting very "top 25 ____ of all time" lists (this being top 10). This seems very gimmicky to me. It's like when gameshows start to have "celebrity editions" to boost popularity, and then have to keep doing them because no one wants to see the "regular guys" anymore. This happened to The Weakest Link, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and even the old Family Feuds.
Wow! You're hysterical! Even more hysterical is that "this administration" that was around when Galileo was conceived was the Nobel Peace Prize winning 38th President of the USA, Jimmy Carter.

seriously, only geeks call THE SUN "sol"

I may be wrong, but in addition to a golden record, didn't they include a needle to play it?

and? AND?

yes, exactly. mine, with my other 50 submissions, was rejected.

seems to me the parent DOES have a gc
not yet. Nintendo is long believed to be releasing the codes to unlock those other NES gems.
You can't have Nintendo making money off of Mega Man or the folks at Capcom will get very angry.

Animal. Crossing.
For the price of a couple of beers
This is New York City. $6 might get you a beer (tip not included). $2? Fuhgetaboutit!

Nintendo... seems to be slipping; much like Sega years ago
Nintendo is JUST LIKE SEGA??? Consider Nintendo's consoles:
NES (Profitable)
SNES (Profitable)
N64 (Profitable)
Gameboy (Profitable)
Gameboy Pocket (Profitable)
Gameboy Color (Profitable)
Gameboy Advance (Profitable)
Gamecube (Profitable)
Virtual Boy (Unprofitable)
Sega:
Genesis (Profitable)
Master system (?)
Game Gear (unprofitable)
Nomad (unprofitable)
32X (unprofitable)
Sega CD(unprofitable)
Saturn (unprofitable)
Dreamcast (unprofitable)
So... they're exactly the same... how?
hense why I said "go to a tax-free province, like Delaware is in the USA"
It might be a stupid question, and probably the answer is some legal "resale" law, but if everyone sells ps2s for $250 and you buy them for $255, why not just go down the street and buy your ps2s for $250 yourself (at some tax-free province/state like America's Delaware)? isn't lowering a console's price point below $100 a death knell?
While Dreamcast's $50 price was bad publicity, the Genesis, NES and SNES all went for below $100 during the middle part of their generations.

First, Afganistan, then Iraq, and now JUPITER!!!
When will this administration stop?!?!?!?
Wow! You're hysterical! Even more hysterical is that "this administration" that was around when Galileo was conceived was the Nobel Peace Prize winning 38th President of the USA, Jimmy Carter.
good catch (i always feel bad when someone types such a good list/post and gets no replies, so here) :)
