I have to say, even though that sounds like a smartass response, it really has some merit. I just might do that...so long as I remember it next time I go to buy a CD.
For some reason this reminds me of the people of Krikkit in Life, the Universe, and Everything....Maybe because I just reread that part of that book today, but still...
I think the parent post was really about pre-sympathy for the folks out there considering building their own computer, as opposed to just Gate's bashing. But then thats just what I think...
Being as lazy/procrastinate-y as I have discovered myself to be, I think it is in my best interests to die before I'm 80. And not just that, I want to _know_ that I'm dying before I'm 80. Not that I want to know when I'll die, but I want to know it's sooner rather than later.
If I am reasonably sure I'll still be around in 20-30 years after I retire, I'll surely put off doing a lot of things I'd like to do until later, and just waste a lot of time in between.
You really gotta wonder how Microsoft plans to keep up it's [entirely unearned] reputation for being customer-driven and whatnot while charging schools outrageous fees without MS doing a damn thing for it.
Personally I think MS should mention this in their Anti-trust defense.
Gates: "No, we're not anti-competitive, in fact we love competition. So long as we can charge for the competition's products as well..."
While I agree it's a good thing to not be dependant, don't we traditionally think of food as more essential than plastic. Sure most people around here get enough to eat, but what about Africa and whatnot? Oh well. I personally don't care but I know plenty of people do.
What's even worse is the My Pictures folder. I migrated from Win98 to XP, and already have a folder for pictures, so i just delete their ready-made folder. The computer has no problem with this. It simply creates another one every time I turn on my computer. And of course I need everything my way so I re-delete that folder. Good thing Windows is so reasonable...
Why doesn't MS document this stuff in an easy-to-find place?
Microsoft doesn't like to work for the user unless it's by making froofy pictures so people feel more at ease. If they tell the average user what they're capable of, they might become smarter and turn Linux. But back on track some, alt+tab has got to be the most convenient thing about Windows, but I've never seen it advertised anywhere.
Just out of curiosity, how many copies of the human genome would anyone currently be trying to store on one computer at this time? I imagine there aren't very many decoded genomes out there, so would people want to copy it 10 or 20 times in case they need a couple of backups? And if they only have 10 or 20 copies, why (especially since they only have 10 or 20 copies) would they want to send 100(!) of these genomes to someone else?
Incubators.
That out of the way, I'd just like to point out how odd it is that there are very few people with ethics against playing God on animals, while there are so many against the same on humans. We all evolved from the same stuff, ya know. I think it's great how arrogant we are as a whole on these kinds of topics.
Just my 2.
How about you take this idea, and then rotate the code you use. For example, the first letter is the key telling you which encryption to start with, say its T. So for that letter A is T, B is U, so on. Then the next letter / word, A is U, B is V, yadda yadda yadda. Keep that up and no one will care enough to figure it out (or decode it for that matter)
I think it's a wonderful indicator of a good fight when, in its duration, they have flashbacks to OTHER PARTS OF THE SAME FIGHT. I swear, the Freeza fight took what, two months? And in that time they flashed back to Earth to things that were totally unrelated. Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but thats just too much.
Personally, I think it's a lot safer to either make up words or use names that describe its function. Its a pain if you tell someone they need to fix Babel, and while they're on their way to fix it, they start thinking about the Hitchhiker's Guide and by the time they start they end up trying to fix the perfectly fine Prefect server.
"...mainly because I see [banner ads] as a tool of satan..."
Strange, I always loved banner ads. The way I see them, they don't matter if you don't pay attention to them, and they let you look at websites for free. Sounds pretty great to me. Oh well, I guess everyone can have an opinion.

Theres at least 50 near me (zip code 21239), but these are just stores that sell LG products, which doesn't garuntee they'll have the internet fridge.

Seriously, how do we let a bunch of figures representing us make decisions that no induhvidual would possibly want?
"Please, please give my personal information to everyone you see, unless I tell you not to"
Just a thought, if this were about *anybody* except Bill Gate's it'd definately be modded troll by now. Oh well.

Hmm, after replacing both parts of the hammer, a couple of times mind you, it seems it's not the same hammer. Oh well, close enough.
This comment is many things: stupid, ignorant, expected, and did I say stupid? But, it is not redundant.
Assume that I'm willing to pay a lot as far as hardware or initial setup costs go.
Why not buy the internet? Maybe it wouldn't work to pay as few bills to as few people as possible, but other than that it's good
No, no you cannot.
Go hypocracy! Way to support The (Hopefully) Great Slashdot Blackout and interesting comments during it!

The most unexpected things come from people who we underestimate.
<sarcasm>
Well, who would have ever thought that we wouldn't expect things from people we are underestimate
</sarcasm>
Sheesh
Offtopic?!?! This is exactly the opposite of offtopic. "Ontopic," one might say. C'mon

I wonder if this means we can start chewing gum in school legally... If not we can argue that they don't want us to learn.
