As much as I dislike it, the owners of the copy write do control the distribution of their intellectual property. If the post their creation on the web that does not mean that others can make use of it however they feel like. These sites typically generate revenue from adds or additional features on their main page. By bypassing them you are removing the incentive to have web based content. While I would hate to have to pick through a web site trying to find an article that/. or another site is referencing, I also cannot argue with the desires of the site in question.
Not the same thing. The FireCard is just an external Firewall stuck on a PCI card. From what I've seen it will not comunicate with the host computer like a NIC, you have to bring in the exteranl and internal connections to the card. Its much more like the old CISCO 25xx Routers stuck on an ISA card, all its doing is pulling power from the system bus and saving rack space.
Also the 750$ price tag puts the FireCard into a diferent market.
No word on if this card will support site to site VPN tunnels. If so it could be very usfull for remote clients connecting into a main network. As it stands such users are forced to use a software VPN client.
In related news, I hear that Sonicwall will have a VPN/Firewall in a PCMCIA card later this year.
We as Americans must demand unrestricted access to virtual crack hos getting blown up. Our Fore Fathers would be proud if they knew that little Jane and Jimmy American had the constitutionally protected right to mass gibs.
Has anyone done a good comparison of what the new AMD chips promise VS what Sun has already delivered? I've been toying with getting a Sunblade 1000 for some time now, if AMD can provide me with a lower cost system with comparable performance I may hold off a but longer.
Sitting in my boxer shorts in a nest of cables surrounded by RAID and System towers pumping out enough heat to poach an egg. The fiber-optic network in my bead room has been a sore point in more then one attempted relationship.
I am assuming that at some point someone purchased the licenses. This would mean that they would have to have a PO and the license information. All that needed to be done was to stick these into a filing cabnet. This in no way requires a full IT staff, just good book keeping.
Can you tell us why your system admins didn't keep better records? I understand that the audit seems draconian, and I in no way agree with what MS is doing. However it should only be a matter of handing over a set of licenses to the MS monkeys, unless the systems in question really are not in compliance with the licenses.
I guess this means we get to see another video clip of the Microsoft CEO stamping around on stage screaming. This time in a cowboy hat and boots of course. I wonder if they'll hand out temp tattoos that look like cow brands with the MS logo?
Even old versions of Gobe kicked Star Offices arse. I recall seeing a demo of version 1.0 for BeOS in which they opened several windows at diferent places in a long document (King Lear I think), selected the whole thing and changed the font. The update was instant across all windows. If Office file format support is as good as they claim it is I'm all over this release.
SunRay systems kick mucho ass.
They are brain dead easy to administrate (at least the latest version of the server software is), whats more if you stick a NT Terminal Server onto the network you can run the Citrix Solaris client very well from a SunRay terminal. This gives you the best of both worlds in most cases. You can even setup acounts to automaticly connect to the NT box when they log in.
Another great thing about the SunRay solution is the smart cards. Being able to stick my card into any terminal on the network and get my desktop as I last left it (with apps still running) is great.
"although UO was the first MUD with graphics"
No, it wasn't. Hell, Siera Online predates UO by a few years. And even it was not the first.
Thats what I get ofr using a bad spell checker with auto-fix turned on (sigh).

To answer the headline question. Sneaking a non-existant CD "Through the Front Door" is rather easy. I do it all the time.

If you want the PDA to have a secure connection (say via wireless) to your main network having a firewall/VPN onboard makes a lot of sense.
In related news, I hear that Sonicwall will have a VPN/Firewall in a PCMCIA card later this year.
Well, that was my intention. But who am I to argue with the wisdom of the Moderators.

On second thought, better not to think about that.
I think you are thinking of the Blade 100. A dual 750mhz Ultra III with 8megs of cache per CPU is in no way "slow".

You people are Killing Kid Rock!
You get that many bad burns? Ye-Gods, if I only got one good burn out of every ten CDs I'd return my drive.

Curch made of Legos. Not Curch Of Legos.

You can get a PCI GForce 2 MX 440 with 64megs of RAM for about 80$ off of e-bay.
"this is useless you linux fags!" They have linux on packets of cig's now?

Fox turned into a hard core porn channel so gradually no one even noticed.
