    Just because Diebold has said they are committed to delivering votes to George Bush and they make e-voting hardware without an auditing system that a monkey can hack is no reason to suspect everything is less then on the up and up.

    Then you are not a Mac User, your just happen to use a Mac.

    I seem to post this everytime this comes up, but once again. Diebold ATMs run Windows (95,NT and XP depending on how old they are). They have been known to crash to the desktop and often run unpatched. They have been hit by several worms over the years but banks keep on buying the dang things. Here of course is a link to a Diebold ATM running as a MP3 player after it had crashed to the XP desktop (touch screen, XP, built in speakers. Makes sense to me). I will never use a Diebold product, be it ATM or voting booth.

    The ones with the word "Diebold" on the front are all running Windows (95,NT, and XP depending on how old they are). When faced with such a system, put your ATM card back into your wallet and walk away.

    No its about taking power from the small developer/inventor and giving it to the big corporations. Without IP laws there would be nothing stopping Microsoft/Compaq/IBM etc from taking my software/idea and claiming it as their own and since I cant compete with the level of support and service that the big groups can offer it puts me out of buisness. As the little guy I need IP laws, even if the current ones could use some work.

    I dont trust a vendor form the start, if I'm asking a pre-sales question you dont need to know who I am. Once I decide that I want whats being sold, things change.

    Yup, and the problem with that code is that it requires the money to change hands and for the victim to complain. There is no law against the scam itself, often by the time the money is transfered the scammer is long gona (given a pile of cash would YOU stay in Nigeria?).

    Not realy, for the same reason that fraud is aparintly legal in the countries where most of these 419 scams. If the local government isn't doing anything to stop the 419ers because (as they claim) they can't then complain about this "turn about is fair play" stuff. I guess the 419er COULD try and press charges in the US (that would be funny) but so long as the guy sends the box o' stuff via UPS rather then USPS no mail fraud has taken place.

    That having been said, I think all parties in this are jerks.

    Sure, no problem with that at all. If my buisness is important to you you'll take in all incomming mail. If not then I guess you dont need my money and I dont need your goods or services.

    So a communications protocol made people collect child pornography to be used as an extortion tool? And how is removing anonymity and privacy from the Internet a good thing? I for one LIKE that I can send an email without the receiver getting my home address.

    I dont know about you, but I need my porn in better then 220 x 176 res'. In fact 220 x 176 is junk for any type of image. Thats lower res then an old Atari ST.

    But its the same size and less powerful. AS for efficiency, its hard to beat what VIA's doing these days with the C3 and the forthcomming 64bit Isaiah CPUs.
