Get a copy of the WinXP Home install CD, then install using the key you got with the laptop, and then give the customer a copy of the install CD. Microsoft might not like it but you are using the key you got with the Laptop and you are using their(ughh) product. Yes, I do know that the average John Doe consumer won't know how to do this that's why there are techs around like Me that will do it for a nominal fee.
I kind of went in a different direction:
-Sue parents of VC's because they raised a criminal
-Sue parents of everybody who used to work at Napster just because if you didn't know you were working at a criminal orginazation that's still not a good reason for us not to sue you
-Sue the pets of the VC's and ex-Napster employees
-Sue the towns that the VC's and ex-Napster employees lived in
-Sue the state
-Sue the USA
-Sue the World
-Sue the Universe
-Sue God
-Wait for God's vengence
-No more copyright hassles

put me in the shirt when I'm shot with it(like the Jetsons) then you would have something. Nothing like getting dressed in.5 seconds.
I had both the 400 and 800 in the early 80's(don't remember the specs) but my Dad was into it so much He built a computer 'desk' that looked like an Arcade machine. Monitor on top, Atari below it on pull out tray, printer(yes, we had a printer!) below that, and lastly printer paper and misc. storage on the bottom. Spent many hours playing Moon Lander(I think it's called that, correct Me if I'm wrong) and Centipede with that wonderful old style joystick. Wish I would have started programming on it, oh well.
I've been out of work since September but I'm taking a test tonight for a 'PC Specialist' position for the City I live in, specifically the law enforcement section of the city and county where I am. I noticed on the Job Summary form I received that they would perform a background check on me, that should be fine, I don't have a problem with it. The other thing is, ta-da, a credit check. I'm wondering why they need to do that? I'm not questioning it because I think it's invading my privacy but of my credit rating. In my early 20's(10 years ago) I went a little credit card happy to the tune of 12-15,000 dollars and am now just getting to the point where they are payed off. Maybe I should look at it for invading my privacy but the longer I'm out of work the less picky I'm going to be plus this is a job with a City, not a Company, and within the law enforcement part of this City to boot.
Home Economics class back in High School. One of the projects we did was to design our dream home, I spent alot of time on it and when I went to show it to my friends all they could say is, "where's the bathroom?". Yes, it was true, no bathrooms. Kind of a weird DejaVu when I saw the title to this posting.
Back when the original Itanium was a prototype I was running Redhat on it and when I got the Itanium2 prototypes I then had a choice, Debian or Redhat. Now I am, somewhat, sure that HP uses Debian for development and Redhat for everything else. I think they even use a 3rd distro but I'm not sure what it is.
The same staff must work at BestBuy too, they always get that clueless look on their face before they point you in the completely opposite direction. Now I don't goto any Computer/Electronic Tech store unless I'm absolutely sure of what I want to buy and if a salesperson bothers me I just give them the standard line, "Just looking, thanks".
When I saw the title I assumed it meant cheaper prices on Macs for us poor folks not transferring data from a PC to a Mac. At least I got excited for a couple of seconds..
A little self promotion..

I will probably leave my current job at the end of the year and join this outfit:

It's a gamer pro-league/gaming computer builder. First event is in Houston in November.

Now this and Windows have something in common.
