No-one seems to understand the purpose of Bluetooth or Zigbee. Zigbee is designed to be low power, make once, then use until it's battery dies and for sensors. Adhoc networks for routing and low response times( I think its about 40ms instead of Bluetooth's 3seconds ish) but also low bandwidth.
It's not intended to be a Bluetooth killer. They are both great for their designed purposes. Bluetooth for rechargable peripherals and Zigbee for making a load of probes to scatter around a plant to measure temperature, humidity etc and then report back on those conditions.
Slashdot: getting more retarded by the day.
I've dated some really hot ladies and one of the topics that always seems to come up is the "what do you do" etc and I'm quite open that I'm a geek. It's fun to see their odd reaction but it never seems to put them off. They just see it as quirky and cool. So it's not something to hide:)
The url even includes a "source=1446" indicating that it wasn't just a link to the page but a referral link to make the guy who posted the article some cash.
Enough already with the constant advert-articles! The Apple section is probably the worst offender.
...but when I do help out I usually do a good job for free although the last few times people have then given me money just for being so helpful. Normally it's been about £20 ($37 or so).
What are the limitations of building such an elevator? I'm guessing the stability of making such a structure would be difficult to achieve. Any chance of a self balancing computer controlled structure?
Yeah, especially if the reasons given by the insurance company were derogatory about women (opposed to against men) then there would be the feminists up in arms ranting about it.
Here in the UK we even had an insurance company that would *only* deal with women and they claimed to have lower premiums for women because of it.
It's just political correctness gone mad a lot of the time these days. It'd be nice if people could speak their mind without having to worry about offending people and turning the majority against you. You would know that they don't agree with your views but it should be possible to say those things without the fear of retribution.
It'd be very interesting to see what would come of a Google operating system. I would assume they have the capital and resources to make a viable competitor to Windows. It's a hell of a big risk to try and take them on though.
Why is it that many games are still released on CDs? I heard that it's because Americans would have trouble if they sold just DVDs. [/troll]
But seriously, why do games manufacturers still produce CD's rather than DVDs when DVD drives are so cheap now!
Hah, you think you have a democracy, it's a dictatorship.
Why don't you haven *independant* government bodies? Surely it would not harm a democracy if the truth reached the people. Sort that out, then try and justify the hundreds of millions spent on election campaigns when 1/10th of the budget could easily have sufficed and the rest gone to helping people who need it. And how about allowing proportional representation rather than the passing of power between two like minded parties?
Grah, another 4 years of a dictator in control of a country who think's it owns the world.
I recently upgraded to a ViewSonic 16ms 20" lcd, it's superb for gaming. One of the most handy features of LCD's for me is that they can be rotated 90deg and then display large documents easily. It's a lot easier for coding to have the code all there in front of you/or the API.
DomainKeys is a much better proposal, using DNS to publish public keys and then signing a hash of the message with the servers private key before sending. The client then looks up the public key via DNS and can verify the senders domain.
It was covered on Slashdot a little while ago, under the heading that GMail has started to use DomainKeys. Link.
Well from their point of view I would have thought it's best to target the most widely adopted programs first, then to concentrate on expanding the set of available programs.
Hopefully in the not too distant future there'll be support for other popular programs.
Only in a cutthroat business world where red-tape allows unrightful owners to pounce on the name and the possibility of making money off a name which, previous to GMail's launch, did not need or want.
But you forgot about our tax... we would get import duty on top of any imports from the US (it varies but I think its about 10%) then VAT on top of the import+duty which would add another 17.5% on top. It works out to be of a similar price normally, even with the powerful pound.
Yeah, well as *we* all know Bluetooth was designed for low power wireless connectivity for small portable devices. It's just a big shame that most Americans either misunderstand this or seem to think that it would be better to have 802.11x in their phones than Bluetooth.
I'm currently running a 1.33Ghz Athlon with 1Gig Ram...... the same as I was over 3 years ago...
Why haven't I upgraded? No need... My system really does do all that I need it to, I keep trying to justify a new one, but can't. Other than for gaming, my system is still really quick (RAID-0 on two 7200rpm disks).
I think even Joe Sixpack will be fed up of upgrading and buying a new PC by the time longhorn comes out,...I highly doubt PCs will continue to increase in speed across the board - ie the distribution of PCs in use will widen further.
I know this sounds harsh, but why don't the virus makers produce something that will *really* fuck people's boxes up rather than just annoy them. Like delete My Documents & screw the windows installation over.
Then M$ would start to have people really hating them, possibly enough to actually make someone, somewhere, with some power to actually take them to court or MAKE them change.

It does handle PNGs properly, they just chose not to implement the optional alpha channel stuff.

Maybe some people mistake it's name as iPod Truffle ;)

But isn't America a so-called Democracy? Shouldn't there be more than just 2 options?
It's so obviously just sharing power between two evil parties. Not a Democracy. Lets invade and restore Democracy there!! Attack!!

And you wonder why not just people but nations hate you for your arrogance.
I don't know who this Tim B. Lee kid is
Well you might as well stop ranting then. He invented the internet as we know it. Duh.
So therefore as the UK Gallons are ~20% bigger than US Gallons your car does more US MPG than 33 UK MPG. So continue....

Check out Transmit - it's a good ftp client, not free though. Although I really liked it's clean interface so ended up buying it.

It's not good enough.
