Why not tax e-mails? The reason there is so much spam is that is so cheap to send out. If spammers had to pay 1 cents per e-mail their costs would go up. Now they can send out 100,000 e-mails with little cost, just some cheap computer time. But what if it cost them $1000? It may also stop my sister in law from sending annoying jokes. Government and education could be exepmt from the tax and a few cents per month would not be to much for the average net user.
Remeber the giant space vaccum from Space Balls?
We could build a similar device, but use it to
suck up the debris, instead of sucking out the
atmosphere of a planet. Since space is already
a vaccum, it would require no power.
Most of you won't like this, but I think we
should tax e-mails. The reason we get so much
spam is that it is so cheap to send. If each
e-mail sent cost just a one cent it would
not be too much for the average user, but costs
would run up for those who send out thousands of
spam e-mails a day. $1000 per 100,000 e-mails would start to add up after a while. There could be exceptions for educational and government institutions. Also, the tax could be earmarked for computer education in public schools.
This would not stop spam, but it could get it under
control. Of couse I will miss the free memberships
to farmwomen.com but that is part of the sacrifice we would have to make.
A bay referes to a section of an auction house or a store. When I used to take inventory in retail stores, they devided the store into bays. Each checker would count the merchandise contained in a single bay. Or maybe it has something to do with Baywatch.
The article on CNN's "Tech" page was poorly written and showed little understanding of the process of science or of physics. The Theories of Relativity are just that--theories. They are subject to modification as new empirical experimentation provides data that either confirms the theories or shows their defects. The experiments on the space station may show that the theories need to be modified, but the writer (Eleni Berger) sensationalized the whole process and writes as if they will cause the theories to be thrown out entirely. Can't a large organization like CNN afford to find a writer for its science articles that has a basic understanding of what he or she is writing about?
OK, so here's the real story. Anakin is Palpatine/Darth Sideous's son by cloning. Palpatine had himself cloned, the clone engineeered to increase its medaclorian (sp?) count so that it would become a super Jedi or Sith. He implanted a slave girl with the clone, Anakin's mother. Palaptine has been watching the progress and training of Anakin so that he can turn him to the dark side when he is ready. Palpatine had the raiders kidnap and almost kill Anakin's mother to bring out his dark side. In the next movie Anakin will break with Obi-wan and the Jedi's over his marriage. Palpatine will reaveal Anakin's true parantage to him, turning him to the dark side to become his sith aprintice: Darth Vadar. This is in accord with Joseph Campbell's "The Hero with A Thousand Faces", the journey of the hero (Anakin) reaches a climax when the hero confronts his father (The final battle between Vadar and the emperor in "Return of the Jedi"). The whole series is the story of the fall, sin and redemption of Anakin.
I hate Jar Jar, that whiney voice, those big floppy ears, his ingratiating attitude . . . Oh, this thread is about Microsoft not Star Wars... I hate Bill Gates, that whiney voice, those big floppy ears, his ingratiating attitude . . .
I have been running OSX on our office's server and its like a rock, it never, ok, hardly ever crashes despite being on 24/7. I have been reluctant to switch the "digitally challenged" secretaries and lawyers in our office over, they are still using OS 9, we did buy and install OSX for their Macs, so we can make the switch when all new software is OSX, I dread the retraining, but it will have to be done. Not that OSX is hard to use, its just that people get used to doing things a certain way.
Ooo, a discussion about Star Wars. Hey everyone, Jar-Jar suks. Does anyone else agree with me? I think Jar-Jar is annoying and really like stupid and all and like they should have him cut in half by a light saber or something...
We are running OSX 10.1 (not OSX server) on our dual processor G-4 web server for a State government office. Perl runs great as cgi. Muti-user and multi-tasking is a major improvement over previous Apple server in OS 9. Can use terminal to do Unix-like things. Pico is included, but TextEdit works just as well. Had to change one line in httpd for Apache server to get cgi to work, but have had to make no other changes to the web server, just drop files into Documents folder and they are on the web. Very secure, no root or FTP running, although they can be enabled. Also running FileMaker Database server under Classic on the same machine. Very stable. Get one.

Oppenheimer (and Capt. Hunt) had a bad translation.
So when will V'ger return, disguised as overblown special effects? Will we have to sacrifice a bald headed woman to it?

Plus you can show off the cute butt you get from biking every day by wearing your tight bike shorts at work. The secretaries will love it.
Ya, doesn't anyone watch old movies? Its all a plot by the phone company to implant phones directly in our heads. James Coburn is cool.
