    The PS3 controller has 6 degrees of freedom.

    No it doesn't. That's more Sony marketing bullshit.

    The accelerometer portion has 2 axises.. up/down and left/right
    then they count the two analog sticks (2 axises each)!

    6 degrees of freedom... but 2/3 of those axises are the analog sticks.

    Why on Earth did they think it was a good idea to use heiroglyphics for the symbols of the buttons?

    I hate the heiroglyphs too.. but there actually is a logic behind them.

    They're actually numbered 1-4.

    Circle = 1 Line
    X = Two Lines
    Triangle = Three Lines
    Square = Four Lines.

    Retarded I know.

    Except for the 1st generation systems (Atari), no system that has cost as much as the PS3 has succeeded... even taking inflation into account.

    That and he's got the $500 PS3 on there, comparing with the highend 360. He should really have the $600 PS3 on there.

    Macs can be a virus CARRIER, even if they can't be infected!

    True.. but they can also be infected, especially in a corporate environment.

    Entourage and Word on OSX are susceptable to macro viruses! There's a pretty bad one going around right now. Our IT dept just finished re-osing one of the editor's powerbooks because his entourage was spamming the hell out of everyone... due to a macro virus.

    It's funny that it's caused by MS software, but that doesn't change the fact that Macs can and *do* get viruses today.

    Here in Tucson, there used to be a restaurant named "Wee Went Wongs".

    There's also a restaurant called "The Cock Asian" (The Caucasian.. get it?)

    and another restaurant called "Cluck U Chicken".. but that got closed down due to underage drinking.

    Ironically, the same reviewer trashed the nano.. claiming it was poorly made, scratches waay to easily, and he cannot recommend it to anyone.

    ...except when it's not. See any system utility like a firewall or antivirus.

    No shit. The version of Ruby that comes with OSX is broken (it was compiled wrong and thinks its on a little endian machine, so the pack() and unpack() functions are broken)

    I can install a new version (not from Apple because Apple is just plain lazy.. considering Ruby has been broken since *Panther* and Apple knows this), but I can't uninstall the old version.. I have to rename /usr/bin/ruby or something... and hope the libraries don't interfere with each other.

    As usual, "It just Works!" .. "unless it doesn't, in which case you're screwed".

    Wordpad, notepad, RDP. I'm sure there's a few more things, but it doesn't really compete with iLife.

    Windows Movie Producer can at least handle clips longer than 9 minutes.. unlike the horribly crippled iMovie.

    This doesn't really look like a "hate campaign" to me.

    The problem is that by making the machines people, Apple has done the opposite. That guy doesn't represent the PC, he represents you.. the PC user.

    They're attack ads.. attacking the very people they claim to be targetting. "You are dumb for using a PC". They put people on the defensive, and that's not what Apple was trying to accomplish.

    These ads are horrible, backwards, and ineffectual. The choir loves them, but the choir isn't the target audience.

    You're misinterpreting what the problem was. It was a change from this:

    if (getuid() == 0 || geteuid != 0)

    to this:

    if (getuid() == 0 || geteuid() != 0)


    This is why stuff should compile *without warnings*. It drives me nuts to compile something and see hundreds of warnings spit out.

    (And yes, gcc will throw a warning if you compare a function pointer with 0 instead of NULL)

    The codec is Flash video. It's Macromedia's/Adobe's own codec.


    No.. the codec used in FLV is one of two types:

    If it's flash6, it's H.263
    If it's flash8, it's On2's VP6.

    FLV is just a wrapper.. like Quicktime.

    The difference between OSX and Windows is that on OSX you have to download the "virus", run it and supply it with your root password.

    This is exactly the kind of thinking that's going to get you burned.

    Apps don't need your root password to do damage. Every program inside Applications (this includes Safari, iTunes, etc) can be *modified* by the regular user... no root password required.

    Do mac users not download software? Isn't there a crapload of shareware out there? Any program you download and run can backdoor Safari so that whenever you run your browser it opens a port and spawns a shell to anyone who connects. You could then decide that shareware program wasn't worth it and delete it.. and you'll still be infected.

    Rather hard to get the runaway propagation typical of a windows virus outbreak, when each user has to explicitly open each port.

    Except that the typical windows virus outbreak is caused by people running software they shouldn't be. Stuff that was emailed or IMed to them.

    Nothing in OSX prevents this from happening.

    The switch from VHS to DVD was very similar to the switch from Tape to CD.

    The switch from DVD to BluRay/HD-DVD will be the same as the switch from CD to DVDAudio... it just ain't going to happen.

    Copy editors write the headlines, not journalists. That explains why you get those kitshy headlines in the first place, it's their only creative outlet.

    That's not the case with Tiger... which is signficantly slower than Panther.

    So that hasn't been true for almost 3 years now.
