I didn't say you were. Nor do you know what my standards are. I was making an observation that people complain only about losing the civil liberties they care about, but stand quiet or even lead the charge against the liberties they dislike or don't care about.

I don't like the PATRIOT act, nor Ashcroft, nor the DMCA either. But I'm also aware that the PATRIOT act was a mismash of pending laws authored by many people (Kerry and Edwards included) slapped together and voted on in the smokey haze of post-911 rage. I can no more blame Bush for it than I can Kerry.

The DMCA, as many people predicted, is starting to lose it's luster. Ivy League educators, radio talk show hosts, buisnesspeople and even lawmakers are starting to see what a quagmire it is, and as long as people keep educating their family members and writing congress, I don't think we'll have to worry about it much longer - depending on who is elected. Don't forget which pocket the most of the media contributes to.

That said I agree with your original statement. In fear our leaders made a poor decision and Americans are paying the price for it. But it's not laws that will destroy this country. It's the absolute insane polarization of the country into two competing camps. And that's why I'm voting for Bush. Not because I like the guy, nor because he's NRA endorsed (altho that is part of it. Saying Kerry is PRO-GUN is like saying dogs are PRO-CAT) But because in 4 years Bush will be gone. With no incumbent to run, fresh candidates will be available from both partys, and a 3rd party will have real chance again.

And a 3rd party is the _only_ way to keep this country from destroying itself.

Sorry, ranted alot longer than I wanted to.

If you've paid attention to the teasers, trailers, and demo movies you might have figured out the storyline for yourself. Or, if you'd played the original, you might have found something similar to the following text in the readme file...

You're a marine, one of Earth's toughest, hardened in combat and trained for action. Three years ago you assaulted a superior officer for ordering his soldiers to fire upon civilians. He and his body cast were shipped to Pearl Harbor, while you were transferred to Mars, home of the Union Aerospace Corporation. The UAC is a multi-planetary conglomerate with radioactive waste facilities on Mars and its two moons, Phobos and Deimos. With no action for fifty million miles, your day consisted of suckin' dust and watchin' restricted flicks in the rec room.

For the last four years the military, UAC's biggest supplier, has used the remote facilities on Phobos and Deimos to conduct various secret projects, including research on inter-dimensional space travel. So far they have been able to open gateways between Phobos and Deimos, throwing a few gadgets into one and watching them come out the other. Recently however, the Gateways have grown dangerously unstable. Military "volunteers" entering them have either disappeared or been stricken with a strange form of insanity-babbling vulgarities, bludgeoning anything that breathes, and finally suffering and untimely death of full body explosion. Matching heads with torsos to send home to the folks became a full-time job. Latest military reports state that the research is suffering a small set-back, but everything is under control.

A few hours ago, Mars received a garbled message from Phobos. "We require immediate military support. Something fraggin' evil is coming out of the Gateways! Computer systems have gone berserk!" The rest was incoherent. Soon Afterwards, Deimos simply vanished from the sky. Since then, attempts to establish contact with either moon have been unsuccessful. You and your buddies, the only combat troop for fifty million miles were sent up pronto to Phobos. You were ordered to secure the perimeter of the base while the rest of the team went inside. For several hours, your radio picked up the sounds of combat: guns firing, men yelling orders, screams, bones cracking, then finally, silence. Seems your buddies are dead. It's Up To You Things aren't looking too good.

You'll never navigate off the planet on your own. Plus, all the heavy weapons have been taken by the assault team leaving you with only a pistol. If only you could get your hands around a plasma rifle or even a shotgun you could take a few down on your way out. Whatever killed your buddies deserves a couple of pellets in the forehead. Securing your helmet, you exit the landing pod. Hopefully you can find more substantial fire power somewhere within the station. As you walk through the main entrance of the base, you hear animal like growls echoing throughout the distant corridors. They know your here. There's no turning back now.

So, what if Doom is upgraded after a few years? Well, along with better graphics, sound, and gameplay, you also have the ability to tell this story in-game, rather than just put it in the readme. All in all a much more immersive experience, and quite a bit more than "Zombies on a Space Station.." --Nikkos

Also of note is the absence of data from third-world countries.

At any rate, of 13 intentional gun death per 100,000 in America, 7 of them are suicides. Now, the question is how many intentional, non-suicidal, deaths are there overall per 100,000? "2. The same five to ten characters coincidentally reappear, time and time again? C-3PO was actually made by Anakin and just happened to be on the ship that was attacked near Tatooine and end up on Luke's farm? Now Chewbacca is going to show up, as a "coincidence?""

Yep, C-3PO was made by Anakin - most fans knew that by reading the books long before the new series came out.

As for the droids - they just "happened" to be on a _rebel_ ship heading to tattooine looking for old friend and ally Obi-Wan-Kenobi. Didn't you ever wonder why R2 seemed to know where he was going/what he was doing?

Regarding Chewy, in the books it mentions that wookies live a long time (hundreds of years I believe) Chewy is a smuggler, remember from the first movie that he and Han had a history on Tattoine. Or, it could be something else.

Ya also gotta remember that while there are billions of beings, probably only a small percentage have the money/means to travel. (Anakin never would have gotten off the planet without help) that would increase the odds those people meeting eachother.

I believe the Antilles name was dropped somewhere in the first two prequels, so Wedge doesn't have to introduce himself.

It doesn't seem to be much of a suprise that the prequel to a movie about Luke, his mentor Obi-Wan, his pair of droids (who are longtime friends), his grotesquely evil father Darth Vader, and a hot princess who's his sister, would be a story about his parents, where the droids came from/how they met, how obi-wan was trained, and how Darth Vader came to be.

"Everything in Episodes 4-6 indicated that these characters were meeting for the first time, with no prior history"

Yes and No. I'm sure Chewy and Han didn't know Luke. Though greater (lesser?) fanboys could speculate on and on about Chewy keeping quiet/the force or what not. As for the Droids, they seems familier with eachother right off (to me anyway)

As for the first two prequels, I agree that they were not as good as hoped. I'm just arguing that the "plausability" (disregarding spaceships, aliens, etc) hasn't been stretched that far.
