Just Let Me Play!

All he needs is a modded playstation to play 3 more minutes of a movie dvd every time he hits a button.
In this manner, he knows exactly how long the "game" will take (approximately 2 hours), and he will never get stuck on a level. There would be absolutely nothing to unlock, and the game will have a definite beginning and an ending. What's the fun of a non-challenging game? Why do all games have to follow the RTS format? Where's the growth in character, where you can see a measly being advance and become powerful?
Or seriously, just forget games and watch movies.
Like... who cares? i bet that even with all the people from slashdot trying to win the prize, nobody won. seriously, the odds of winning are so slim it's not worth typing the extra characters to get to www.msnsearchandwin.com. that's 9 more keystrokes than www.google.com. and the flash is takes forever to load, not to mention obnoxious.
"He's asked to help from Web designers the world over to build a new page for Microsoft to test IE7 with to make sure it does everything Web designers want it to."
Am I the only one who thinks this is an ugly and confusing sentence unfit for a slashdot headline?
It's all relative. In this case there isn't an absolute good or an absolute evil. What's good in your eyes is evil to say, commercial software developers who would rather not have software turned into a commodity.
Funny. MS gives away IE to make browsers a commodity in order to strengthen another segment of their business. IBM gives away IP to make software a commodity in order to strengthen another segment of their business. Both are done for selfish reasons, and certainly both actions hurt one group or another.
Both companies are simply doing what's in the best interests of their shareholders. Neither company is inherently good, so let's not evangelize them.
I go to sleep at 3 am and wake up at 9 am. I am most awake from 12-1pm and after 7pm... meaning, i am most awake during lunch time at work and after work ends and most sleepy during work.
It'll be complete with a hard drive, cpu, cpu fan, and disk drive. It'll be the size of a briefcase and weigh about 10 pounds. It'll also come in handy as a bludgeon.
Am I the only one who's never heard of Gigablast... but then not too many years ago, I remember a time when I've never heard of Google. Kinda makes one wonder how secure a lead from its competition any search engine ever hope to obtain, and what kind of chances Microsoft stand in usurping the search engine market.
"I use word processors to write school papers. When it comes down to it, writing a school paper requires one important feature, spell check. That was available on the C64. I'll bet most people are like me in that they NEVER need to upgrade (no, I don't have the trusty C64 anymore, but I haven't upgraded office since 97)."
Actually, I shared your view at one point. However, I have been using the extra word processing features more and more to increase my productivity by many times. Some of these features include the automatic table generator, automatic list formatting, insertion of pictures, headers and footers, page numbers, automatically updating of references (such as refer to section 3.2), version control, and many other advanced features. Producing a professional looking document really does help convey information, a sad but true fact. I mean, how many people have passed up long and dry text documentation for a flashy doc with all the bells and whistles?... So yeah, as your world becomes more competitive and when the documents you created during junior high and high school just don't cut it anymore, you'll find urself using more of these "extra" word processing features to stand out in the crowd. Those that are exposed to these features sooner are just that much more prepared for the real world.
Interesting how the author mentions community. Does a great software program really need a community? Can't there just be a great product without community? I assume good software will automatically attract a community, but perhaps this is not the case anymore. Maybe it is just as important to produce a great product as it is to promote it.
Imagine the income this will provide! Imagine all the employees that will be hired! This will be the start next big tech boom that will drive the economy out of this recession. Or create a whole army of lawyers...
just joking around... or maybe not
A search for the words "click here" on google returns the most heavily linked sites which I assume to be also the most popular.
1. Adobe Acrobat Reader
2. Google (not a download)
3. Quicktime Download
4. Macromedia Flash
5. Yahoo (not a download)
6. Microsoft
7. RealOne Player
I started off playing Quake 2 in the multiplayer realm when I decided to try the single player out. Even though I was already used to the bloody disentigration of monsters/humans from the multiplayer world, I was completely unprepared for the cries and laments of the insane prisoners. I got scared I myself was going insane. The closed corridors, the incessent moans of pain, the sound of large mechanical machinery (tell-tale signs of an insanely strong, degenerate huge half cyborg half bio something around the corner) made it so creepty that I couldn't play the game all the way through at night. ID software couldn't have made the game scarier or more disturbing with the available graphics during that time. I look forward to Doom 3, id software's next title, which is almost guaranteed to push the envelope of insanity.
OSS belongs to the community. There's really no need for credits. Where would we draw the line if we allowed credits? banner ads? annoying pleas for money? pop up windows?
In a bid to get more readers, Slashdot has become a site advertising great deals much like fatwallet and bensbargains. Technology related news was deemed unimportant compared to the savings that can be passed on the Slashdot community. Look forward to great prices on dsl modems, cdr's, and other assorted computer hardware/software. "Who needs news, when people can check www.cnn.com for that crap?" exclaims Cowboy Neal.

Underneath all the violence and the one-two punchlines rests many subtle but serious themes. The animation quality is arguably one of the best, with scenes drawn in stunning detail and movement looking natural and realistic. The soundtrack by Yoko Kanno is catchy and original. The plotline also holds an unusual gravity compared to other anime series, keeping the story more believable and down to earth than say... the DragonballZ series. And last but not least, the english dub is by far the best dub of japanese anime I've yet to find.

Just tack on a voice synthesizer and it could become a useful tool for the blind. They would be able to hear the words written around them.
