Excuse me but that makes no sense at all. The very definition of this is unstoppable by the immune system, so unless you've got nanobots in your pants, you're just blowing a lot of hot air. So what that we have it. Now other people will actually think to look at this kind of thing. Hell let's just tell them what we did to make it too. Now anyone can kill anyone that much easier.
If this does what it says it does, then the only way to read what you said is shooting down a nuke with a nuke. They're about to use it on us? We'll use it on them first. Doesn't work that way.
Brute force can be very important. Brute force is basically having the answer in the back of the book to a very hard problem: It doesn't help you actually solve for the answer, but once you reach it, you'll be confident in your result. This, as oppose to veryifying a bunch of results which may not be true, and verification may well take longer to do than the original problem.
Keep using oil, or stop using oil. Well guess what, if we keep using oil, we WILL run out, that is a solid fact. Arguing that oil is the only option over and over and over again is completely counter productive, no matter how bad other sources are right now, they are the only hope. You know the trillion dollar oil industry? It flat out won't exist soon. It shouldn't exist now but our technology sucks so do something about it and quit bitching.

That is to say, being lead by a few with vision is better for google than those that want to make money off of it. Why do I feel like the front page of google will suddenly look like yahoo.com? Who doesn't want an email@google.com? They'll start selling those out. How about hosting some webspace? A company-only pay-to-be-on-search engine?
No. The fact is that with these kinds of things, the dream dies with the creator and product soon fails after. Now the google guy(s) aren't dead yet but this pretty much removes them from the picture. If this happens then in a couple years there won't be a single search engine worth my time. I hope you enjoy your googleweather forecost, you're googlemochalatte, and perhaps your google-register-to-view articles.
What if there were a charter super-sonic service between NYC, Frankfurt, and Tokyo? If it worked with other airlines to create itineraries, I can see massive demand at very high prices. Shaving off several hours of a day long trip is a big plus.
You are correct to a point.
The AI usually thought of being made is on a much higher level. This involves a lot of work as we need to figure out exactly how everything works with eachother. Massive amounts of research needs to be done in psychology, the real thought processes, and consciousness. The system this ran on would require some sort of fuzzy-logic base away from the exact science computing is now.
On the other hand, an AI could be made on a computer of any speed, as long as it had vasts amounts of memory at its disposal. A pure molecular level simulation (of actual molecules and atomic particles) could be done, based on a thoroughly analyzed brain (physically, chemically). Inputs and outputs could be added. The amount of waste involved makes this an almost useless project. However, this manner is entirely possible because we are going to a level below the one we don't understand to one which is easier to grasp: pure chemistry. Sure, plenty still goes on we don't understand, but we'll figure this part out long before we figure out the larger picture they create.
A game like civilization may be possible using a scoring system and a limited about of time. An 8 person game could take days straight, no rest.
A game like Street Fighter, I'm sorry to say, does not have much in the skill department. You anticipate the move by your opponent, and do the designated counter move. You do a move, your opponent counters, etc. It may be key-mashing controller-breaking fun, but the outcome won't be too different than the international rock paper scissors competition. Either you're good, or you're not.
I just had an interview with these people. He explained how first they were company A then bought by B, C and finally D (intel). He latched on to the project somewhere between B and C. From what he says, the Alpha architecture is vastly superior to what they are currently working with for Itanium (EPIC). This doesn't mean much to me, but it may to someone else.
Linux isn't a viable alternative because everyone everywhere has certain requirements.
* I want to submit a resume, they say it must be in document format.
* I need to synthesize vhdl or do ANYTHING complex in ANY area, but the only software I have is what my company has, which runs on windows. I do not have the spares $1000's to buy the 'nix version.
* I want to play a computer game with my friends, but not restrict my friends on the games they can play.
* I need to update some records for my company which are stored in a MS database, and/or need excel.
These things are hard to come up with, but they'll make you groan when you find one. Could I install linux? Sure, I'd just have to switch between operating systems every time I switched between doing work (windows), and learning what is still a novelty in some ways. My only suggestion is providing an easy (shareware) way to run windows apps through a vmware-ish design. Then I'd be more than happy to switch over. Another option would be to have two computers. Send one:P
This is a rather extreme method of fighting off those people who talk very loud into their cellphone at the worst possible moment talking on and on and..
Eating with chopsticks in space would be easier than eating with a knife or fork. For using either of those, you must apply pressure against a back surface. You won't be able to stab a steak in the air (not that they get steak) as it would go flying into a research colony of ants and spread havok (I for one welcome yadda yadda yadda). Same thing with knives. With spoons, you're relying on gravity to hold whatever you picked up on the spoon.
With chopsticks, however, you provide pressure to two sides of a food particle. While making a mistake might be more spectacular (fling), they are less likely to happen.
Make a building, I want to see if I can break a window and get in. Hey, that'd be damn fun! Even make a fake rent-a-cop police force (take from a local college) so we can say extremely silly things such as "4 minutes!" at the beginning of the break in as if we know the position of every single police officer..
You know I'm kinda trailing off here. I really just wanted to break a window.
Don't tell google, but they're the online resource worth paying for-- but conditionally. If all resources online start charging, then not only would I have to pay google, but I'd have to pay each article I actually look up on there. We all know that's the direction the NY Times is taking, and my local newspaper is mirroring it.
Will it be long before news networks start charging for articles? Well actually CNN has already started, and it saddens me deeply (premium content, real player one content). I think northernlight started some people on the wrong road a while ago when they started charging people for certain results.
With assurance that I'd never have to pay for the object, I'd pay for the link to the object-- from google. But not much.
Very true. I first used lycos for a long time. It sucked. Then I traded between hotbot or whatever the hell it was called, and lycos (technically the same engine). Then I found northernlight. It was great. Then they went corporate and you can't use it anymore.
Google is now a verb and adjective for me. I don't get go a week without saying or typing it a couple dozen times. They are kings among.. well.. assholes like yahoo I guess.
When I'm writing a document, I've often looked at Insure and decided I want Ensure. I never eve nthought about assure, but I agree with what you posted for the usage note. I use Insure as a kind of warranty. If it's been insured, then if something goes wrong, there will be compensation. Ensure on the otherhand is like assure, but perhaps aimed at the self. Examples:
My mom assures me that the cookies will not burn.
I can ensure the cookies will not burn by checking them every couple minutes.
The state of my cookies are insured: if they are burned, mom promises to buy some instead.
Ok I really strange example and I couldn't quite pull off the last one, but that's my usage.
Here at RIT we have what we call the weather machine. Why is this?
Almost every day we have a tour/orientation, the weather is great. You can plan picnics based on when these events are and you won't be disappointed. If anyone knows what the weather in Rochester, NY is like, they'll appreciate this.

We can call it iClap, as in..
"Dude, I went to this awesome website... ah man it was great it had so many pictures but.. uhh... I got the iclap..."

Damn how well does that help? There's a radiostation back home that really needs a fork.
