I'm sorry to say it, but Americans as a group are a bunch of lazy retards. They will maybe complain about this over a beer but I bet that would be it.
I mean, non-stop telemarketing calls should be annoying enough, in my opinion.

Please, don't take this as a flame. My comrades and I aren't much different, just a little bit luckier (until we get annexed). I'm saying this as a Canadian, of course.

  9. Re:where do these people come up with this? on SCO Targets US Government, TiVo · · Score: 0

I think you're missing the point. Even if the infringing part is replaced, where's the guaranty that this kind of crap won't come up again? Everyone on /. may know that it's impossible, but the PHB has to do risk assesment...

Besides, fine you've replaced all the SCO's code in the codebase. But you still have to upgrade virtually every single Linux installation in the world. You may be able to upgrade servers and workstations but embedded devices... you're screwed.

So, in summary, the risk of paying for potentially dozen of licenses or for upgrading everything you've got/released so far is going to put linux back into the GeekOS category.

"used unique only to Linux technical and architectural concepts" -- umm, no. lindows (and wine) just implement windows api on linux. They don't do it in the same way as windows. For one, in windows (well, nt based things, at least) gui code is in the kernel -- have you seen wine kernel module?... Besides, ms whines not about code/tech concepts but about the freaking name. you're way off base here
