Well, the first problem is installing anything before the updates. You must do service pack 1, if it is not included, as well as all IE updates.
Also, I assume that you have a network there. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updat es/sp1/network.mspx and download the full SP1a file.
Immediately before connecting to Internet, install SP1a, then do all other Microsoft updates. Then, and only then, should you install any 3rd party software.
Personally, I like tabbed browsing. Extra windows suck balls... If you are doing 15 different things on your computer, who the hell wants 5 of them to be IE windows? Pfft. Give Mozilla a week, and you will not use that crap IE.
1. Copy Mozilla code into IE. 2. Get caught. 3. Deny everything. 4. Buy out Mozilla Foundation. 5. Distribute "new" IE. 6. Have press conference, insisting Microsoft "invented" tabbed browsing. 7. Deny everything.
I have a friend that is taking some certification courses in Canada and when he finishes, his sights are set for the United States Economy. When I tell him how much I make freelancing, he cannot even begin to imagine it.
I have been in this business for years, and I have seen many tools come and go. Most of them go, or should. Honestly, they best tool is your brain. With experience comes the ability to quickly (99.9% of the time) diagnose and solve problems.
For pesky Windows problems, I use WinDoctor on the Norton Utilities CD. You dont even have to install it, this app runs right from the cd, and it really does a good job. You can even delete a program directory and uninstall it with WinDoctor, although I do not recommend this on your customers machines!
For partitioning, I use Ranish, which seems to be much quicker than fdisk.
I play Unreal Gold, which ties in with Unreal Tournament, online. There are many good servers out there, and many that are in fact dominated by experienced players. The only way that they got good was playing people with a higher skill level. That being said, there are noob servers out there for you to pick from, as well as servers that are noob friendly. You can check out my team at http://www.mibunreal.com.
I also have alot of experience with Quake, and from my point of view, their servers are similar to Unreal in the case of players, etc. I do know that on some of the Unreal Servers, there is a thing called "Kickban", as well as anti cheating mechanisms to make your gaming experience better.
Have fun;)

People with techincal superiority, using that power against SCO instead of waiting to see how things turn out in court.
What the hell are you talking about? You obviously get your information from the same place SCO gets theirs, since your accusations are based on mindless drivel. The fact is, my disturbed little friend, that nobody knows who is responsible. If you happen to know who is, claim the "reward", or shut up.
I do agree with you in one aspect of your FUD, it is a sad day for Linux and opensource. Knowing that mindless assholes like yourself make us all look bad... That part of your statement holds true.
Remember, it is FUD like you just spread in your post that started all this bullshit in the first place. People like you just feed the fire.
In my opinion, my community has been on the defensive for too long now, fending off the fools from SCO. At this point, I find it amusing that someone used flaws in Microsoft and it's users, to make these bastards lose the ability to conduct whatever pitiful business it does these days. So to SCO, HAHAHAHA! Who really cares? Everyone is laughing at SCO today, including me.
I am awaiting the continuing FUD from the bastards at SCO, blaming us Linux users, when in fact, the attack is solely coming from an army of owned Windows boxes.
Grab your umbrellas, it will be raining FUD by coffee break tomorrow.
Well, I just hope you are not running any of that "Proprietary" Linux ABI containing code in any of the Linux systems you "sell", alongside your Unix solutions... You must have received one of these nastygrams today, did you read it?
PS. Your website sucks. Nobody cares "What sort of person are you?".
I have personally seen Dean flop over while on his contraption in a resturaunt in Manchester, NH, and it was the most hilarious thing I have ever witnessed.
I have also been up to Mount Washington many times, and I would just love to see how one of these guys controls the unit with the wind, next to the guardrails that protect you from a 1000 foot drop. The highest winds in the world were recorded up there.
All I can see in the current model is a device to make lazy people lazier.
Show me a flying segway, and then I will be impressed.
I am not alone when I say this: Windows 2000 is the best Microsoft OS since DOS 6.22. I had to get that off my chest.
I think that the reason they are delaying Longhorn is because of all the bad hype they have received this past week. They are beginning to realize that people now are concerned about security. When they have to pay someone like myself $45.00 an hour to remove a stupid worm from their computers, they are pissed. They want to know why this is happening to them, and it is getting easier to explain to them that the Windows code is swiss cheese, since they hear it being confirmed on the 6 o'clock news.
Microsoft is obviously delaying the release due to the fact that they had shit for security in the code they posses now, and they are bringing it to the table to clean it up.
I started freelancing a couple of years ago, and it has grown into a profitable little business. $45.00 an hour, flat rate. IT outsourcing, home users, etc.
I just started making money at it, and I was ready to give up until I got my first real paycheck in the mail last week ($3900.00 for 10 days of work).
I tried advertising in the paper, to no avail. It is a complete waste of money.
I joined the Chamber of Commerce, got some calls from that.
Had my business info pasted on the back of my truck, no calls from that.
I even tried having pens made up with my info, and business cards.
I got some calls from my website http://www.onsite-services.net, but the most work I get is from chasing it down. I have found that to be the best way, since work rarely bangs on my door.
Hope this helps anyone that is looking to get into this line of "work".
PS. It took me 2 years to finally make some decent money.
Under a provision of the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act, passed by Congress to combat music piracy, music companies may issue the subpoenas without a judge's approval.
This alone gives me the justification to bring my laptop to the local college, plug into their network, and share every damn pron movie, mp3, and app that I can get my hands on. Share and share alike, folks.
And to all you jerks that think that file sharing is stealing... What do you call selling CDs for $20, giving the artist pennies from that $20, and blatant violations of the United States Constitution
Down with the RIAA and their lobbyists. What a bunch of senseless assholes.
I used to work at this computer repair place years ago. When someone came in to have their PC repaired, another tech would demand to see their Winblows license. If they had none, he would refuse to work on the PC. He had many things to say about people "stealing" software and music...
Until one day, he was caught stealing from the register. Ha!
This is the news I have been waiting for. I have been having a very tough time quitting cigarettes, and I know it is the nicotine, which is said to be more addictive than heroin. Take the nicotine out, even gradually, and I think more people have a chance.
I am looking into buying some when they come to my area. As a matter of fact, I am going to talk to a local tobacco shop tomorrow, and ask them to carry these cigarettes. If anything, I think this is approach is better than gum, patches, or lozenges.
Parting shot: The fact that these cigarettes contain carcinogens is irrelevant. What is relevant, however, is the following... Millions of smokers cannot quit because of the power of nicotine. No nicotine, no smokers. Period.

It's about time these bastards went open source (!) and let the world scrutinize the crap they write.

If this is the case, then Law does not apply. It should be Moore's Theory or something.

A man can have dreams, can't he?
When XP came out, I wondered if they could do anything more to totally trash the user interface and make it look any more ridiculous.
Apparently, then can.
But that is not all they have done. From the look of the environment, it appears to me that you are going to require one hell of a machine to run it.
I really wish Microsoft would do a couple of things to the OS (besides throw it out):
1) Make the UI completely configurable
2) Stop making radical changes to the UI
3) Completely rewrite the code
4) Embrace Open Source (giggle)

Oh well. How about if I connect to a proxy server and share all of the music I want to? I do not see how they can really do much about it.
Does this mean that all that money I have spent to have a 21" Manhood was for nothing?
Drat.
Is this some big suprise to anyone? "This is done without sending any information to Microsoft." Sure...
