Yeah, sure Mac OS runs better on MACs than on PCs. Well, it seems to me that trying to get software to run on a platform that it wasn't designed for is what being a hacker/geek is all about.
Perhaps we shouldn't try then. MAC OS was just intended to be run on Macs, and that is that. Oh, woe is the PC user for he cannot see Expose at work!
You got the Male hero. You got an Overwieght guy. You got a chick. You got a strange little kid that is hard to understand. You got a really cool Morphing Vehicle. You got an Evil guy with a cape.
I have several machines around the office that are just fine, but have defective hard drives. This is because Dell ships the crappiest hard drives they can find (Quantum). The machines are NOT new and fast, but they run the applications that I need them to just fine. When a hard disk goes bad, I find it difficult to install a 40GB hard disk, when all I need is a couple of gigs. Some of these machines won't even support a hard drive > 30GB.
A small capacity flash drive is just what I need in this application. I would prefer that the price for a 4GB model come down a bit though. With the solid-state hard drives, these machines could last another 5-6 years!
KnoppMyth has an option to capture video from a range of sources, including FIREWIRE. The included docs don't really say much about how that works. The IR Blaster route is klunky, and looks kinda tacky. Firewire is certainly a bi-directional standard. Why would the set top box not allow you to capture video via firewire, and also use firewire to send channel commands?
This is the kind of question that we need answers to. There is limited documenation on the inner workings of many set top boxes. Hell, the cable companies barely give you instructions for programming your remote.
If it's keylogger software you are worried about, it sounds like a single use password (tear sheet style) would be ideal.
If it's one of those little PS/2 keyboard devices that sits between your PC and keyboard, try this: Log in normally, use your password, do whatever, then logout. Before you walk away from the kiosk, tape down the left-arrow key. The auto-repeat will fill the buffer (might be a few Kb) and eventually overwrite your PW.
Well, you can't have it both ways. For greater adoption of linux, it's going to have to be in the hands of a lot of people who really DON'T know what they're doing. You're average Joe doesn't just start out automatically knowing how to secure a linux system. Having a widely known antivirus available for linux will certainly make Joe feel better about his linux system. Maybe it will let him relax a little, so he CAN learn the important stuff.
If the Tivo is so hackable, and the ad was semi transparent, then maybe there will soon be a hack to make both the foreground and background of the graphic TOTALLY transparent. Then Tivo's service could pop up all it wanted to, and you would never see them.
That doesn't really solve the problem for everybody. There will still be lots of people who will buy these laptops that don't even know about the incompatibility, or care. Maybe they are students, or parents of students, or clueless IT managers, or anyone who has seen an IBM commercial. If enough newbies buy these laptops, that manufacturers will think that their customers SUPPORT their use of the whitelist, even though anyone who cares about the industry knows that they are bad. The best solution for this industry is to make sure that these laptops DON'T EXIST!
The only way these laptops will vanish is by an omnipresent campaign of advertising that these laptops are bad for the world. Unfortunately, that would cost a lot of money, so it seems unlikely that it will get done.
Yeah, I had one of those brushes... It lasted about 1 year. After that, the battery wouldn't hold a charge anymore. In an effort to see if I could replace the battery (like I have on my rechargeable razors), I broke it open. It's just a coil of wire on the bottom of the brush. There wasn't even a LOT of wire, so it probably didn't provide too much current.
BTW: I wasn't able to replace the battery without destroying the brush. Worthless.

Because nobody wants to have sex with a robot that was built from old washing machine parts.
That's strange... 99% of the perl I look at makes me wish I were dead. We should get together...

Umm, WHERE?
Jazz Jackrabbit?
HA! You thought I was gonna say Linux!
I am in the market to buy an HDTV. I currently have 2 NTSC televisions: a 23" and a 27". I *WANT* to buy an HDTV set. Here is my question:
HOW can I get rid of these 2 televisions? I don't want to just throw them in the trash.... that would pollute the landfill.

I prefer Showbiz Pizza Place, you insensitive clod.
Wait.... This is the poll, right?
I don't even have shockwave installed, you insensitive clod!
It's not always a burp.
Well, surely, THAT'S THE KEY!

I'm torn between:
- Seeing LESS of Pauly Shore
and
- Seeing Pauly Shore reduced slightly in size.
*Pulls out Stealth-C*
"Now *THAT'S* a virus!"
I like my viruses to run on my HARDWARE, not just my OS.
Watch your mouth! If they can put elvis in a Coke commecial, they can certainly put DeForest Kelley in Enterprise...
