I would like to see a screenshot of why this interface is so different, but there doesn't seem to be one on the website. I also wish there were a PC version, or at least some sore of interactive demo.

It makes me wonder.... Is this the same guy who thought all files should be arranged by association, instead of in a tree structure? That would just make things SLOPPY. I sure hope this Humane interface doesn't promote sloppiness!

  3. Finally! on FTC Moves Forward With National Do-Not-Call List · · Score: 4, Funny

  4. I can just imagine.... on When Sysadmins Go Bad · · Score: 1

I suspect we will see more of this after the dot-bomb fallout. Companies are hiring fewer administrators, so they are overworked, and usually underpaid, which gives them a bad attitude. When the pressure becomes too much, the administrator installs a deadman switch to activate the failure after his removal.

I can relate to this guy's position. In fact I have even joked about doing something similar at work, but I wasn't serious.

The funny thing is, they actually had one in stock.

About the RF modulators.... 20 years ago, they cost $2.00 at Radio Shack. I opened one up once, it was nothing more than a little tuned circuit. I go to Radio Shack today looking for one for my nephew's Intellivision console, and now they're at least $20. What is up with that?

  7. Games? You want games? I'll give you GAMES! on What's Keeping You On Windows? · · Score: 1

It's not GAMES that is keeping me on Windows. At work, we have DOZENS of applications, written in various languages, that were designed for different permutations of the WINDOWS OS.

The accounting software only works under DOS, the strange image retrieval system that was designed for Windows 98, but won't work on anything above or below it (!), the call center database program that was written in (of all things) Visual COBOL, The medical management program that runs poorly on windows 95, better on Windows 2000, but not on XP.

It's all just barely hanging together, but these programs are all proprietary and were designed for windows, and then the makers went out of business. Linux is out of the question.

The computer technology is still bulky. You still need a power source to run it on. If you want fast internet access, you need a wire. Want to type a quick email? You still need a keyboard!
The future is when ALL of these needs are eliminated.

Do they upgrade? Sure! Not because there's some great new feature or capability, but because they keep hoping that maybe this time, unlike last time and the time before it, things will suck less.
This is one of the things that Microsoft has tried to instill in its users: The belief that upgrading fixes things.
You can also blame it on lazy tech support people. "Your computer locks up randomly? Try upgrading the BIOS."
You should only upgrade if the newer features warrant it, and/or the actual problem is fixed in the newer release.

...that I don't listen to the radio now that I have a CD-changer in my car. Certainly, I'm not the only one who despises the radio. I stopped listening because of too many commercial breaks, too LONG commercial breaks, inconvenient commercial breaks, and ridiculously short playlists.

Sometimes when i'm just driving to work, I get the tail end of a song and then 17 minutes of commercials. I hear one song, and then I'm at work. It's just not worth it.

Old AT host adapters cost $10, so who cares if you blow one.

In the case that you need something faster, I would recommend an ATA 100 controller (it need not be a RAID controller) which would still be cheaper than a new motherboard.

This software may have really stupid restrictions (like it ONLY runs on windows, (or worse, DOS!), requires a modem, a high speed internet connection, the latest web browser, etc)
