The first time you use a magic mushroom, it doesn't seem to do much but make you a little bigger. If you take another one after that, then you can shoot fireballs!
Somehow, I can't imagine heroin addicts buying their next fix over the internet. It seems more likely that they would need it to be delivered WAY FASTER, and they would eventually end up selling their PC/laptop/smartphone just to get money for their next fix anyway.
Plus, a local news story about the rising overdoses from Heroin mentions that the Heroin was TOO POWERFUL, because it was mixed with oxycodone.
The answer is simple: Outsource the processing power to an overseas call center where your virtual driver (Let's call him 'Steve') will steer the car in a simulator-like environment. A few webcams around the car will certainly use less power than that huge LIDAR pod on top of WAYMO cars.
From what I understand, it was an early design of a promotional giveaway to journalists. Newer designs won't have this problem, and they already replaced the defective unit with 2 more!
Tell me, who is *SO* busy that they can't wait until the end of the work day to go home to get their package, or to stop off at the post office to pick it up? Would this terribly busy person be willing to sacrifice their home security just so they can get their latest Amazon delivery right fucking now? Jeez!
That might be the problem where you live, but not where I live: Minnesota. Will self-driving cars still be reliable when the street is covered in snow, so it can't see the lines? Or when it snows so much that the snow sticks to traffic signs making them unreadable? How about stopping at a traffic light when the street is covered in black ice?
You want my trust in self driving cars? Then have several of them drive around here in the winter.
I run noscript in concert with AdBlock Plus. I tried UBlock Origin for about a day (in advanced mode) and found that certain ads *STILL* got through. One was even a complete lock-up-your-browser-while-playing-an-audio-file-telling-you-that-your-browser's-security-is-at-risk ad. It also doesn't seem to reliably stop youtube ads.
Humans use more senses than just 2 eyes to drive. They "Feel" the acceleration and road condition, and can "hear" oncoming traffic and emergency vehicles.
In the early days of the internet, I had a software firewall on my desktop pc called ZoneAlarm. It had some sort of privacy feature where you give zone alarm your personal information (Name, address, zip code, phone number, ssn, ccn, etc.) and it would notify you when ANY program would attempt to send any of those strings out to the internet (in plain text). The problem is, I didn't know if I could trust Zone Alarm not to encrypt all that data and send it to their own servers. That's why I never used that feature.
I PAID real money for Zone Alarm, and I didn't trust them. I don't pay a single CENT for my web browser. Should I trust mozilla or google? (Certainly not microsoft!)
The only problem I can imagine this solving is the one where the user makes a typo in the credit card details, which causes delays and possible denied charges. Also, you won't spend 2 minutes on the CC form screen. It will just take seconds. The vendors really do want your money as fast as possible.
Of course it has huge privacy concerns if they don't do the security right, but I kinda want to see what the result of this would be. If you raised your child with a digital AI assistant, what kind of behavior/social patterns would they exhibit?
If someone makes a battery that incorporates ALL of the breakthroughs, then we should be set for life!

They recall their phones TWICE, Their leader is imprisoned, and they post record profits? How is this freakin possible?
I don't know why they couldn't fire him WHILE he was suspended.
I had no idea I could just ask management to resign. I'm totally going to do that from now on.

...except for spelling and grammar checking. Porn has completely ignored that technology.
Likewise, it's also not a legal certificate of divorce.
With all due respect to Bruce... Who cares about Bruce Perens? I want to know what Peter Norton thinks of this!

What did the announcement taste like?

I too prefer VLC, but at some point they *REMOVED* support for playing MIDI files. WMP still does this fine.
Isn't that what Palpatine said?

Excuse me! Exactly *WHO* is it that has the addiction to links? Certainly not the *READERS*!

You still need to pay for internet in order to use it... so factor that into your budget.
Or do you just get discs in the mail?
Early thinkpads were durable, yes, but their drivers for the audio (MWave) were terrible!
I just like the color.
