  6. Was there LSD in the sandwiches?

  7. How long will it take?

  8. I don't think that would even matter. Programs that run in a VM won't be able to "break out" on their own. They would need information that is only available from outside the simulation. Programs that *CAN* break out have been written by someone with intimate knowledge of VM architecture and code. I don't think humanity can do it on its own... it would need help from someone on the outside.

Oh, and the whole "we're running in a simulation" idea is ridiculous.

  9. Oh my god, it's worse than we thought. Those poor employees can't even afford FOOD!

  10. Well, he's right, you know. Go into your typical Best Buy, and almost all the POTS telephones are CORDLESS, and need AC current in order to charge the phone, operate the base station, and handle voice messaging. There are very few new phones for sale that run off the phone line current.

But then again, everyone should have one of those phones, in case of a power outage.

  12. It's not about the performance on New AI Is Capable of Beating Humans At Doom (denofgeek.com) · · Score: 1

You should continue to feel good as a human. Humanity needs that. The other posters will want to tell you that it's not that an AI beat a human, but HOW it did: By learning. I'm taking a different approach: It's not about the performance of the AI. It's all about how playing the game makes you FEEL. Sure, the AI got the most kills, but what KIND of kills, and at what cost? Did it seek out and kill the only players who were out of ammo, and low on health? Did it ever sacrifice itself to protect an asset? Deathmatch was designed for humans to play against humans. So you can choose co-op on a whim to overcome a more powerful enemy, and then betray your allies at the last second. The AI cannot experience that.

So go ahead. Feel good as a human. And you can feel good for the fact that you know that the AI can NEVER feel good.

  14. Birds and fish and Dolphins die all the time without help from humans. In fact, they were probably dying long before humans started polluting the oceans. The carcasses bloat up and float. They have to float SOMEWHERE, so why not that particular area? It's not unreasonable to think that the currents have made that area a graveyard for sea life. In fact, it's probably keeping the rest of the ocean relatively clean....

  15. I remember PRISM. I also remember that when its existence was leaked, Google specifically went out of their way to ENCRYPT traffic between their data centers to prevent the PRISM from capturing any useful data. Before the leak, Google was unaware that any data capture was going on.

PRISM wasn't a Google initiative, it was an NSA initiative.
