I realize you neither picked nor panned Vidalinux, but I thought I'd put in *my* two cents.
I tried Vidalinux. The installation was painless, and I got a working 'gentoo' system in an hour or two...
the good
1. installed the latest gnome
2. acroread, flash and java were preconfigured
3. stage 3 install
4. again, it was painless
the bad
1. The kernel was dated (2.4.x)
2. Sound didn't work
3. installed Gnome instead of prompting for the environment of my choice
I liked it, would have stayed with it, but something broke and I didn't have time to fix it, so I reinstalled Debian. I'm looking at downloading Jollix tonight, just to try it out.
FUD
I used KPackage under Debian.
1. Click Kpackage
2. enter root's password
3. update packages
4. click on the new package of your choice
5. install
6. profit!
I'm a linux guy, I'd like something other than Gnucash and its stupid double entry accounting. I'd also like something other than Intuit after that Turbotax fiasco of 2-3 years ago.
I find the release cycle interesting as well. It seemed our esteemed developers churned out 2.6.0 to 2.6.6 in a matter of a few weeks. Version 2.6.7 took a few weeks to release by itself.
Not whining, just an interested bystander.

Easy solution, don't use windoze.

Heh, this reminds me of the Bud Light commercial... the one that teases the Starbuck employee for his chosen 'profession' and the usefullness of liberal art degrees.
Interestingly, I've been looking for menial/mindless work before I take up a teaching fellowship. It seems that my résumé showed me to be overqualified to flip burgers or force people to buy security systems but I eventually found work in a nearby café. It might surprise some, but I'm quite happy about this. The reason is, it's not necessarily about the money. It's about doing what you like and liking what you do.
Thanks Sun! I'm begining to despise this company as much as Micr*soft. Two years ago when I began my CS degree, I noticed the local university based their degrees on Java instead of C++. When I queried, I was told because they wanted to be vendor-neutral. I then sought the CS curriculums from various SW schools (Arizona, UCLA, USC & Stanford) and found most were based on Java.
What a dilemma, I'm programming in a language 'invented' by a company whoose every public move sickens me.
And call it what: Lesbian Hat, Lesbiantoo, Lesbiandrake, Lesbianutu, Lesbianian?
What/Who the fsck is Gervase?
Meh. Gentoo user laugh at Debian release dates and Debian user rib Gentoo for their compile times. I use both, I'm alway laughing!
I used it as well. I believe I had a working system in about 10 clicks.
Good! Get those cell phone using drivers next.

Any chance you could fix my karma? :)
You submitted an enterprise system to a Microsoft beta update? Gutsy.

p.s. I've already booked reservations for its 2006 implosion. :)
First, M*chael M**re's movie, now Spiderman? What has /. come to?
Why is this trash on /.?
I'm all for open source, but I'm really for an outright ban on the term 'paradigm shift'.
Hee hee, so you're conceding defeat already. :)

Curious if anyone has written a fetchyahoo app for gmail? Works swimmingly.
I have no problem blocking email from infected countries. Perhaps you should get a more 'Americanized' email location/relay.

I knew Daniel Robbins was an Albuquerque resident, and has since quit Gentoo, but I didn't know/think they still would pursue NM tax free status.
