    Arg. You beat me to that line.
    And you are absolutely correct.

    We get a lot of kit in from our small business customers at the end of a hardware cycle. Instead of just dumping them, we renew them and the company gets a charitable write off.

    I remember one group that was real particular about what was donated. Today, they still only have one machine in their office. They turned down a series of PIII machines in excellent shape.

    Their loss.

    In today's world, a light office only requires a nice linux install and open office.

    Mine came rather quickly. Because of that promotion, have bought a number of wireless cameras to cover the backyard.

    At the atlanta Winxp Launch Event, they were giving away Mappoint 2002. I had owned Streets and Trips 2001 and liked it. Mappoint's COM extensions were great for integrating it into other apps.

    When Streets and Trips 2004 came out, grabbed a copy of it on sale (was like $25) after rebates.

    Just got my copy of Mappoint 2004 about 2 weeks ago. Really like the updated maps.

    What I do think needs some work is the GPS interface. MP can track the location of your vehicle from a gps device, but it does NOT help you on your trip by telling you what turns are coming up in relation to your current location.

    While there will be no recall, old bills are pulled from circulation. Only between 5-10% of the money printed each year is actually new to the system as value, the other percentage is printed for the replacement of old bills.

    So, keep printing your old style counterfits. The public will begin to question their authenticity if they are in the minority. The public does that now with new redesigned bills when they are new.

    Try $500 at most dealerships now.

    And if its a used car, watch out for the $400 "processing fee". That would be the after sale fee, the one that the sales guys doesnt get a commission on, but goes straight to the dealer ship.

    Couple weeks ago, the local "manager" gave me a hard time about leaving the store. Seems he was upset that I would try to walk out with the book I WALKED IN WITH without paying. I had a good laugh at his expense.

    But agreed, I buy about 50% of the books I browse through.

    And if I had to study and learn morse to get my license, to prove I was capable of operating the equipment, showing that I had the desire to put some real effort into it, there there is no reason that others shouldnt be required to do so as well.

    This political correctness, and dropping requirements or barriers to entry to allow every tom, dick, and harry into events only ruins the events for those who truly have the desire to compete/participate.

    If you are 400 lbs, I shouldn't be hogtied so you can keep up with me on the 100m dash.

    If you really arent smart enough to get a unix cert, well, there is always the mcse paper pusher tests for you. (ok, that was tongue n cheek. There are some really smart MCSEs out there. They just don't brag about THOSE certs.)

    To follow up on #2, a firewall at the top of your broadband connection is a great thing.

    But when that moron down in dials up to AOL or his favorite ISP from his office machine, your defenses have just been breeched. His insecure windows system is now like a hooker waiting for the navy to come in. Every port open and ready.

    So, yes, in addition to a strong firewall, be sure to regularly scan the internal network for problems.

    Microsoft pushed 10.x.x.x in its Small business server and its proxy server configurations.

    It was terribly ironic when microsoft made the default "shared internet" settings 192.168.x.x

    A user starts sharing his dialup in an office on XP, and that little DHCP server starts spreading 192s around.

    Another MS flaw, consistancy with their flaws..

    I still use my old WP 5.1 licenses.
    One of my laptops has it installed under linux. runs just fine. One of the best text based word processors ever made.

    But then, the MS EULA doesnt mention anything about the end user being clean of any ip infringment.

    Um, actually, dell commonly ships the systems with the drives in cable select mode. Winders OS seem to get confused by what drive is where for some reason.

    Until Dell quit using prison workers and outsourced support to some diety forsaken asian country where the women/men who answer the phones speak Ingrish and have outdated support scripts, I'd never had a problem with dells. (servers, laptops, workstations)
