Interesting point. Of course anytime you talk about the prison population, you have to talk about our failed "war on drugs" which was begun by the ever-evil nixon to distract people from the fact he was loosing vietnam and we had no reason whatsoever to be there.
Today its a "war on terrorism" but its the same bullshit.
Why would that be true? Get off your knee jerk High horse.
Except that he's dead right. Car manufacturers have been abusing the *FUEL ECONOMY* exemptions set out for "light utility vehicles". And our cowardly government has shyed away from the problem.
After the 73 oil crisis people realized, "Hey, a small group of countries in the middle east can bring our economy to a standstill. We need to stop that." So the government started regulating fuel efficency in cars. What later came to be called the "SUV" was born when companies realized all they had to do was call a car a utility vehicle and it could get 10 miles to the gallon instead of 25.
So here, 30 years later, we in the US are completly subjigated by Saudi Arabia (clearly played a large role in Sep 11th, did we do anything?), and Mexico (3 million illegal immigrants *THIS YEAR* -- 10% of mexico has immigrated illegally to the US -- they are basically dumping their poor on us) who sell us oil and in the case of Mexico, steeply discounted oil. And no small thanks goes to companies like Ford, Chevy, GM, who chased profits at the expense of national security, and our government of fools, whose done nothing about it.
Umm, they have a good percentage of both the mp3 player and digital audio markets, but no monopoly in either.
Yea but if this was MS you'd be screaming bloody murder and you know it. But since Apple is Slashdots pet I'll get modded to crap for suggesting they did something wrong, and some fanboy can keep the smug look on his face.
What this goes to show is, apple wants to benefit from open architectures and open source, but doesn't want to play ball.
I dont know why you made that reply seeing as I didnt comment about linux at al -- but since you've provided the bait... I dont see linux patching structural vulnerabilities that often.
Then we're pretty damn close actually:) Im about 80 miles away in riverside county. And the trash pit of which I speak is Romoland.
That being said I live down the street from a magnet school which music programs are some of the best in the country.
I wasnt saying that good schools cant exist... but where bad ones do, you usually find students and parents who are viscerally belligerant. My ultimate thesis was, its simply dishonest to blame teachers for the ills of society.
And yea, some immigrants do well for themselves, take things seriously, and extricate themselves from their situations. The vast majority? do not.
May I ask what state your from? California is drowning under the weight of supporting Mexico's poor:) That is *the* problem in california. The elephant in the living room. Can't speak for elsewhere as you say.
There is a HUGE socioeconomic stratification in terms of education in this country.
Its their fault. Yep. You heard it here first. Its the fault of the people not being educated.
My mother teaches at a horrible school in california where 90%+ of the student body is illegal immigrants. The parents are garbage, and thus the kids are garbage. They lie, cheat, steal, are violent, use drugs, are sexual, and have no interest in learning, IN THE FIRST GRADE. A parent helping their students with their school work is out of the question, as is speaking english, staying off drugs, or staying out of jail. Oh, and the classroom budget for supplies for an entire year is about 150$.
And yet when the teachers fail under these conditions, the federal government blames TEACHERS? How about blaming the federal government for not funding schools? How about blaming the government for not patrolling the border? How about blaming parents for using schools as a babysitting service?
And he's still not half as evil as Bush... thats what sucks.
We need to repeal the 22nd ammendment (term limits) so Bush and Clinton can run against each other in 2008. Can you imagine the "nukuler" fallout from the race?
Agreed you wise man. Don't forget that most prudes are actually engaged in the behaviour they find offensive. I know *quite* a few "religious" people who preach these things in public... then when they ask me to fix their computer its *FULL OF PORN*.
I worked for a university where my boss felt that "people worked best under pressure". So he constantly created situations to stress us out with. Like: Waiting until the day before a $500k proposal is due and force the staff to work all through the night (my record was a 17 hours at the office).
I hadnt worked there but for a little while -- and the same with the secretary (we were the only two staff members, everyone else were students, etc). Once a month perhaps, we would let our boss drive us nuts. Until a guy who worked there for quite a few years strolled by us happy as a bird and we said to him "how can you be so relaxed with this deadline?!" and he says, "Boss does this on purpose. I stopped caring years ago."
It had a big impact on us. After that we were incapable of becoming excited about *ANY* deadlines. Deadlines were missed, we didn't care.
The (sweat)lab was eventually defunded by all its benefactors. Nobody could produce research the way the lab was run. And the proposals were so terrible having literally been put together in a few hours, that no new sources of fuding were acquired.
may I suggest your dad probably *isnt* as stupid as you think? Its kind of, naieve to think that because you've lied to your dad he believes you. Parents are wise and subtle, and your dad could be swallowing his pride? and even aware that you're making fun of him? how hard would it be for him to googke pebkac?
There is a Centrino Shortage BTW which is keeping the prices of those popular laptops way too hight IMHO. Not sure If Id call that a "success". They make a product people want, then they dont have it
However, though normally a Linux zealot, I have to point out that Microsoft's probably doing more good than bad for America's economy, at least at this point.
The most stable windows platform I've ever used is actually VMWARE under linux. VMWare has top notch drivers and thats what usually makes the OS unstable -- drivers.
That being said, nothing makes Office stable. I can tell you why to... I've done a lot of office-VBA development (I feel so unclean) and the API is *HORRIBLE*. Nothing acts like its supposed to. A method that does one thing on a form say in access, *won't* work on a subform. So you have to learn all these weird rules that are undocumented about whats supposed to work and what actually works.
"Hello, this is X and Y company calling with an offer to blah blah blah, our records indicate you have done business with a partner of ours. If you would like to hear more and speak to a representative please press 1 or stay on the line."

That sword cuts both ways. So you're saying if a messaged contains an URL whose IP is in china then im pretty sure its spam?
I dont know why you made that reply seeing as I didnt comment about linux at al -- but since you've provided the bait... I dont see linux patching structural vulnerabilities that often.
No, theyre damned because they didn't do it right in the first place.
That being said I live down the street from a magnet school which music programs are some of the best in the country.

You're dead on of course. The do it yourself attitude of linuxers does not translate well to "buy a server from dell."
Hehehe yea ... those viruses downloaded that 100gb bangbus mpg you have pastor phill :)
Im an atheist, I like porn, I'm ok with that.
Becuase democracy cant function with secrets. Which is exactly why we're in trouble right now in this country.

Um, ballpark, yes :-)

Actually, the fraud was so obvious in some places you don't need a CS degree to know something was wrong.
oops, I linked to the wrong page. here ya go
Its funny you should mention that, since MS is one of the largest financial scams ever.

Who told you "core routers" are overloaded? Most backbones have between 5 - 15% utilization.
