  1. I still think homebrewed is the way to go on The New Bloglines Web Services API · · Score: 1

I'm a bit of a news junky, but bouncing around checking all the different news sites whenever something happens is just to time consuming

Even more fun is when you're trying to remember that article you read last week, but is now lost in the oblivion that is anything not on the front page of the news site

so i threw together a little site that dumps all my favorite sites newsfeeds into a database where I can do whatever I want with it

though it's nowhere near as fully featured as I'd like, it does the job
all it really needs is some filtering to prevent when it overwhelms you with so much news

nothing fancy but it keeps me sane =)

i really want to do something like slashdot does and let you pick the channels that show up by default, but I just haven't gotten there yet

    anyways, it's at http://fooey.net/NewsArchives/

only problem is the stupid thing is too addicting, and I end up spending WAY too much time reading the hundreds upon hundreds of articles scrolling through it every day

  8. I think webbased is the way to go on When RSS Traffic Looks Like a DDoS · · Score: 1

I've been working my own site completely based on consolidating all the newsfeeds popping up on the web and making it all so much more usable

    http://fooey.net/NewsArchives

It makes it easier to stay up to date on all your favorite sites, and includes searching and page caching (take that slashdot effect!)

another big plus is many many users can all use the same RSS feeds, yet only one request per hour has to be made

I'm planning on making it so you can create an account and pick the feeds you want, and after that greatly increase the number of feeds provided but real life and real work keep interupting

Anyways, I built it for myself originally, butit didn't take long before everyone at work had it bookmarked. So I figure if other people find it useful, I'd be glad to share! =)
