When you want instant responsiveness.3 seconds does make a difference. Nearly half a second is a long time if you have to keep waiting after every time you click something.
Opera has more features than IE and is faster than Mozilla:P

It seems to have no end. Does anyone have a short list compiled of some monopolistic things MS has done? I'm going to start putting one together for reference.
So yes, the single Athlon is about 16% faster, the dual Athlon is about 50% faster.
That benchmark was not set up to test the fastest line of AMD and Intel CPU's, and it's still a graphics benchmark. There is another benchmark here where the new dual 1GHz Power Mac (DDR) gets beat by the older one due to the smaller L3 cache. AMD and Intel are going to both make some huge improvements before Apple updates its line again. I like Apple but they need a cheaper/faster architecture. Maybe if they put enough work into tweaking OSX while they are on limited hardware it will be an impressive product when they do move it to a real platform.
Windows 2000 is still the best operating system Microsoft has released. It's popular for workstations, and it's every bit as good as XP but without the Teletubbie XPerience. I spent the better part of a day getting XP how I wanted it, when I was done what I had left was Win2k. That, and many home users probably search with AOL. Google has a more technical user base than other search engines, many of those people also like window 2000
I've been using Linux for nearly as long as I have been using windows. Windows (2K) is currently blowing it out of the desktop water on both speed and stability. Ergonomics for the power user is much better than "ease of use" for the new, windows is killing it there too. Linux has yet to bring a UI to the table that is efficient to get work done in. My windows box uses about 40 megs of ram to boot, Linux is closer to 150 using a monolithic kernel design. The only technology with a chance at the desktop would be (maybe) the L4/hurd port and Fresco.
It's not just Linux/OOo vs MS
The government has spent bilions on many of it's UNIX machines and the software that runs on them. Go ask Sun what they would charge you for a low end workstation with a GPL version of solaris.
Offset endurance and muscle building on an every other day routine. Most people would be amazed at the difference after maintaining this consistently for 30 minutes a day. The trick is to find something you can do every day and stick with it. Even if it's only 15 minutes a day, it's much better than dropping the entire routine after 2 weeks or constantly blowing off the workout.
Or sort of a robowars unleashed, where you place them in a room full of weapons that they are programmed to use, then let them fight it out quake style.
Because.doc for all intents and purposes is a best effort guess at MSFT's file format. Abi word, Gobe, Open Office, Koffice etc. all use separate file formats. If you are on Abi or Koffice and need to send a document to someone using OOo, why throw the.doc wrench into the middle of the process rather than using an open, well documented standard? In order to be freed of having to use MS office, there will have to exist a non-MS document standard.
A monopoly using it's dominant position in the market place to push contracts that prohibit competition is an abuse of power. A contract with Dell should be mostly dictated by the number of copies they order, not based on how well they are following Microsoft's OEM laws. Dell supports Dell computers not Microsoft, what difference should it make to Microsoft if they want to dual boot them with BeOS, offer a Linux option, or ship them without an OS at all. MS has used it's heavy hand to stop all of these things. MSFT's reaction to this should be "what is it about windows that does no meet your needs?", not "stop selling those products or we will charge you a fortune more for our operating system". It's a monopoly abusing it's power.
I could care less about MS integrating IE and media players etc. with windows. I would be happy if they would just co-exist with alternitave operating systems (i.e. let them compete). If MS wants to stomp competition, let them do it by offering a better product, not by placing stringent rules on OEM's.
A very important detail that I am sure almost everyone will miss. For me the added cost of Windows is almost not relevant, I spend more money on Linux, I just don't want to give my money to MS.
If they wanted to make MS mad, they would have shipped with Linux. This is Dell taking a stand, but not fighting MS. I think this was a good move on Dell's part.
50% of 50% is 25%, not 0
Thank you, While I was at it I unchecked Identify as MSIE 5.0
Stand up and be counted!

LS was the programers initials I think, not LiSt
They first tried a utopian society but we rejected it.

The single 1.6 GHz Athlon did better over all than the dual 1GHz G4
Averages: sec
Athlon MP 38
Athlon XP 48.75
Dual G4 56.75
Xserve G4 57.25
2GHz P4 58.5
So yes, the single Athlon is about 16% faster, the dual Athlon is about 50% faster.

2K/SP2/IE6 == best to date
Like here where the dual G4 gets schooled by the 1.6GHz Athlon in photoshop?
Compare that to the specs of a car, the engine and HP does not always determine the speed of the vehicle.
What about apple claiming to be 90% faster than a 2.53GHz P4? At least then if hey won $74,000 it would cover the actual cost of the product.

I have a MS mouse and keyboard as well.
Haha, check out this page.
lol, true, but most orginised religions are like that.
You can already buy an automated automated lawnmower ($500) but you have to put up parimiter wire (on page) to contain it.
